Elowen’s POV

The moment I pushed open the door, I froze.

Another female wolf was on top of Kade, pinning him to the bed with her weight. His hands were locked around her throat, both of them straining against each other and his wounds had torn open again, blood soaking into the sheets beneath them.

They were fighting hard.

“Get off him,” I shouted, rushing forward.

The female wolf turned her head, I knew her face. One of the kitchen workers who always watched the stronger males with hungry eyes.

“The King said any female could try,” she snarled at me, baring her teeth. “I got here first.”

“The King sent me first,” I snapped, grabbing her arm and trying to haul her back with more strength than I thought I had. “Leave now.”

“Or what?”

“Or I will tell Thorne you wounded the prisoner the Alpha King wants alive. My brother will break every bone in your body before morning.”

Her eyes flickered.

Everyone in the pack knew what Thorne was capable of doing to wolves who crossed him.

She let go of Kade’s throat and climbed off him, still breathing hard. “He is not even worth it, look at him…soft Southern blood.”

“Get out.”

She spat on the floor near my feet and shoved past me, the door slammed behind her.

I turned back to Kade.

Blood ran freely from the reopened wounds on his chest soaking into what was left of the bandages.

“Are you trying to die?” I demanded, grabbing a cloth from the table and pressing it to his side. “You’re still injured, what were you thinking fighting her like that?”

He shoved my hand away breathing hard.

“I was thinking,” he said, voice rough, “that your pack is disgusting.”

“Excuse me?”

He let out a short, bitter laugh. “Torture didn’t break me,” he spat. “So now they send women to spread their legs for me. Filth dressed up as strategy.” His eyes cut into me. “Tell me, are all Northern females cheap prostitutes or did they choose you and her especially?”

My face burned but I held my ground.

“Watch your mouth.”

“Why?” he said. “Is that not why you’re here too? To finish what she started? Answer me! Did you come to have sex with me?”

He studied me for a moment something shifting behind his eyes.

“For what it’s worth,” he added, “I don’t want to kill you, not after a month of you keeping me fed like some pet you didn’t want to lose.”

“How generous,” I muttered.

“But if you’ve come for the same reason she did,” he said, “I suggest you leave before I stop caring about a month of broth.”

I let out a slow breath.

“You are badly hurt and you are inside Northern territory. If you kill me my brother will tear you apart before the next sunrise, and if I do not come to you, the King will send others. Females much fiercer than me and they will not care if you live through the night.”

He went quiet at that, his eyes flicking toward the door where the other woman had disappeared.

Just a few seconds after he was distracted, I grabbed one of the heavy chains still attached to the wall, moved fast and locked it around both of his wrists before he could react fully. I had helped Thorne bind struggling deer more times than I could count so my hands knew the work.

He jerked hard against the chain. “What are you—?”

I pinched his jaw open, forced the small bottle between his teeth and poured half of the deer blood mixture down his throat. He coughed and tried to spit but I held his mouth shut until he swallowed.

Then I drank the other half myself because my hands were shaking.

Heat started spreading through my body almost at once.

Kade’s eyes widened. “What did you give me?”

“It is not poison,” I said. “I will be gentle.” I added, though I wasn’t entirely sure it was a promise I could keep.

I pushed his bound hands behind his back and secured the chain so he could not reach me easily. Then I lifted my fur skirt, climbed onto the bed and straddled his lap.

He was already hard, the mixture worked fast.

“Northern women are all whores,” he snarled, though his voice has lost some of its edge. “Promiscuous dirty prostitutes who climb on any male the King points to.”

I ignored him. I noticed the color rising in his face and I understood with some satisfaction that whatever he called me his body wasn’t listening to his pride.

So I ignored the words and reached between us, my hand wrapped around him. He was thick and long, hotter than I expected and larger than I had imagined from watching other wolves.

I guided the head of his cock to my entrance and started to sink down.

Pain tore through me at once.

I sucked in a sharp breath and stopped halfway as my thighs trembled.

“Too big,” I whispered.

Kade laughed, low and cruel. “You force yourself on me and you cannot even take it, typical.”

I breathed slowly through my nose and pushed down again, inch by inch I forced him inside me. The stretch burned, It felt like I was being split open, tears stung my eyes but I did not stop.

When I finally sat fully on him, my forehead dropped against his shoulder.

“The kitchen she-wolf lied,” I said through clenched teeth. “There is no pleasure in this.”

“Of course there is not,” Kade muttered. “You know nothing about sex and still you climb on a wounded man like a bitch in heat.”

I lifted my hips and sank back down, trying to copy the way I had seen other females move. The friction hurt, every movement dragged against raw flesh.

Kade’s jaw stayed tight but his breathing changed.

I kept moving up and down. Slow at first, then a little faster as my body started to adjust. The sharp pain dulled into something heavier, a strange pressure built low in my belly and without asking permission I found myself wondering almost against my will if this wasn’t so terrible after all.

“You are still dry,” he said, voice rough. “Forcing it only makes it worse.”

“Be quiet.”

“Make me.”

I rolled my hips and felt him throb inside me as a muffled sound left his throat, his head tipped back against the wall.

Heat from the mixture spread deeper through my blood and my skin felt too tight. I moved with more purpose, chasing the small spark of sensation that had started to replace the pain.

Kade’s breathing grew faster. The tight line between his brows finally eased.

“You feel it,” I said.

“Shut up.”

I did not shut up, instead I kept riding him, thighs burning the wet sound of sex filling the small cell. His cock dragged against a place inside me that made my breath hitch, the pressure in my lower belly tightened until it broke.

Pleasure rolled through me in a hard wave and my body clenched around him.

Kade’s hips jerked upward a few times, a low groan tore from his chest as he came inside me.

I stayed on him until the shaking stopped.

Then I climbed off his lap, cum slipped down my thighs and my legs felt weak.

I pulled my skirt back into place and looked at him.

His chest rose and fell hard, blood still seeped from his wounds and his eyes were dark and furious but his body had given him away.

I thought that should be enough. This had to be how a child was made.

Elowen’s povBy the following morning, I discovered that the camp had found something new to discuss.Unfortunately, I was the subject.I was walking through the courtyard when two women standing near the well fell silent as I approached. One of them looked away quickly, but the other continued staring at me.I slowed my steps.“Is there something on my face?”The woman lifted her chin.“Nothing that I can see.”“Then perhaps you should stop staring.”Her companion grabbed her arm, clearly hoping to prevent an argument, but the woman pulled free.“Some people should be careful about the company they keep.”I stared at her.“What does that mean?”She gave me a thin smile.“Surely you know.”“No, I don’t. Why don’t you explain it?”Her eyes narrowed.“Everyone has noticed how quickly the Southern prisoner has risen in the King’s favor. First, he gets comfortable quarters, then he is given the authority to train our warriors. Now the King listens to his every word.”I folded my arms.“An

Elowen’s POVMira had been unusually quiet all afternoon. At first, I thought she was simply tired. The kitchens had been busy since morning and with Kade now training the Northern warriors, everyone seemed to have something to say about the Southern prince. Some praised his fighting skills. Others complained that the King was making a terrible mistake by giving a prisoner so much freedom. One woman had even claimed that I must have bewitched Kade using black magic just because she was jealous of how Kade rose in the king’s favor.I had ignored them all. After spending most of the afternoon listening to Kade complain about Northern customs, I had no desire to entertain anyone else’s opinions but Mira’s silence was different. She had barely spoken while preparing supper, and when I asked her a question, she answered without looking at me. Even her usual cheerful humming was missing.I watched her arrange a row of bowls on the counter before finally deciding I had had enough.“What’s wr

Kade’s POVThe three warriors charged at me like they had something to prove.I almost felt sorry for them. The largest one came straight at me, swinging his fist toward my face. I stepped aside, caught his arm and used his own momentum to send him stumbling past me. Before he could regain his balance, I struck the back of his knee and he hit the ground with a grunt. The second warrior attacked from my left.I ducked beneath his punch, drove my shoulder into his chest and pushed him backward. He recovered faster than I expected, swinging again before I could move away completely. His fist grazed my jaw.A few warriors watching from outside the training ring shouted in excitement.I touched my jaw and looked at him.“That was almost impressive.”His expression twisted.“Stop talking and fight!”He roared and charged at me again. This time, I didn’t wait for him to reach me. I stepped forward, caught his wrist, twisted his arm behind his back and swept his legs from under him, he landed

Elowen’s POVKade barely spoke to me when I returned that evening. He was sitting in the sitting room with a cup of wine in his hand, staring at nothing in particular. The moment I entered, his eyes lifted to my face but he didn’t say anything about what had happened earlier and neither did I.I wasn’t ready to have that conversation again. I had spent most of the afternoon trying to convince myself that I needed to stop expecting things from him, and I wasn’t about to ruin that effort by asking him to explain his feelings a second time.Besides, Kade had made his position clear. His men came first. His freedom came first. And whatever I felt for him was my problem to deal with.I walked past him and placed my belongings on the table.“Where have you been?” he asked.I glanced at him.“Out.”I answered and went toward the kitchen.“Elowen.”I stopped reluctantly.“What?”He put down his cup.“I have something to tell you.”I almost laughed. Apparently, we were both full of important t

Elowen’s povKade opened his mouth, then closed it again. For once he had nothing to say.I turned toward the door, desperate to get away before I embarrassed myself any further.“Elowen, wait.”I stopped, but I didn’t turn around.“What?”His footsteps approached, then halted a short distance behind me.I waited for him to say something that might take away some of the pain. An apology. An explanation. Instead, he said, “I have to think about my men.”I closed my eyes.“Okay.”I opened the door just as another voice interrupted us.“What is going on here?”Thorne stood in the doorway, his gaze moving between Kade and me.His expression immediately changed when he noticed my tear-streaked face.“Elowen? Why are you crying?”I quickly wiped my cheeks.“I’m fine.”His eyes narrowed.“Did he do something to you?”“Thorne, please. Not now.”I moved past him before he could ask another question. I didn’t want to explain what had happened because I didn’t want him confronting Kade or making

Kade’s povImmediately I left there, I went straight to the king.I didn’t bother asking for an audience. I didn’t wait for a servant to announce me and I certainly didn’t care whether the king was in the middle of an important meeting.I pushed open the doors to the throne room and walked inside. He sat on his throne, speaking with two advisers. Both men fell silent when they saw my expression. The king dismissed them with a gesture. Then he looked at me.“Kade. What can I do for you?”“Your prisoners.”His eyebrows rose.“My prisoners?”“My men. The four warriors captured alongside me.”He leaned back.“What about them?”I stared at him, struggling to understand how he could sound so unconcerned.“They are being beaten and starved.”His expression barely changed.“They are prisoners of war.”“Do you think that excuses what is happening to them?”“I think you should remember that they are enemies of this kingdom.”“You made a bargain with me!”My voice rang through the throne room.T
