Chapter 16

    *Third Person's Pov*

"Your Majesty, a bad news just came in from the University," the king's butler said to the king as soon as he entered the throne room. The king is currently reading some appeals from his people while her beautiful wife is checking the reports from the governors of the different provinces of Citrine.

Both the king and queen stopped doing their things when they heard the butler's words. It has been days since they sent their daughter to study in the university and it's their first time to receive a news from there. Probably it's something really important.

"What news is it Caflon?" the king asked. While the queen is listening intently to their conversation.

"It's about the princess!" the butler nervously stated.

"What about our daughter?" the queen blurted out.

"The princess was bitten by a venomous snake," he started to explain.

"What? How could a snake like that enter the university?" the king asked angrily. While the queen bursted out in tears.

"Oh my daughter, my poor daughter," she said while crying. The king hurriedly went near his crying wife to embrace her.

"Don't worry honey, she will be fine. Our daughter is a strong girl. She will overcome that venom," he said to comfort her. But the queen cried even more.

For years she have prayed for a daughter and it was an answered prayer for her when she found princess Ana Mae in the middle of the woods. She removed the longing in her heart and have replaced it with love. Because of her she was able to understand the feeling of being a mother, and what it feels like to have such a loving and caring child like her.

"Promise me that you will do something to save her! Promise me!" she begged the king while crying. The king lovingly kissed the top of her head and slowly wipe her tears using his bare hands.

"I promise my dear wife, I will do everything to save our daughter!" the king promised to his wife.

After receiving the news they hurriedly went to the university to check on their daughter.

"Attention! His Majesty King Arthur and her royal highness Queen Maurice has arrived!" the head guard announced for everyone to pay their respects to the king and queen. Everyone bowed down their heads as the king and queen walk towards the direction of the infirmary. Before they could enter, they were greeted by the headmaster who's breathing heavily because of too much nervousness. The queen looked at him angrily.

"Your Majesty we're very sorry for what happened to the princess. But we assure you the doctors are doing their best to save her," the headmaster explained as soon as the king and queen approached him.

"Surely you have to do everything to make sure that our daughter is safe from that venom Carlos. Or else I will personally behead you and hung your lifeless body in the market to serve as a lesson for everyone!" the queen warned him. The headmaster swallowed the lump in his throat after hearing what the queen just told him. It was obviously a threat and he knows that she's capable of doing it.

"Your highness, I'm very sorry for disappointing you but I swear to you that this would be the last time. And I'm going to make sure that the princess will go back to you healthy and safe," he explained.

"Your negligence will lead us to a more troublesome future. I entrusted my daughter to you because I believe that you're a responsible man and that you will look after her. But it turned out that I was wrong. My daughter is not just a princess, she is a crown princess! The successor to the throne and the future of this land! If we lost her now, then you have to prepare for a bad future!" the king said angrily before they walked pass the headmaster who's having a lot of regrets in his mind. He's blaming himself for what happened.

"How could I let that happen Julian?" he asked his assistant. "How could I let a snake wander around my university and bit the princess?"

"Sir, it was not your fault. It was an accident! You never wished for it to happen," Julian said to comfort him.

"But it happened inside the princess's room. A closed room that's supposed to be secured from wild animals."

"You're right sir. It was a closed room and it should be a safe place. How could a snake like that enter?" Julian wondered as well.

"There is something wrong with this incident. And we need to figure out everything. I will surely kill that bastard who tried to kill the princess in my territory putting all the blame on me!" the headmaster blurted out angrily while clenching his fists.

Then they both left the place so they could start investigating.

While Prince Lyndon and Princess Diane who were secretly listening to their conversation felt the urge to investigate the matter as well.

"Who would dare to do such thing to the crown princess?" Prince Lyndon asked in disbelief. Princess Diane just shrugged her shoulders.

"Maybe someone who envy her, someone who have an eye in her position," Diane stated.

"I heard she has a cousin studying here as well. Maybe she planned everything to get rid of Ana Mae!"

"We must not jump into conclusions and blame someone automatically. We need to look for evidences showing that our suspensions are true," Princess Diane told him.

"Where do we start then?" he asked while stroking his imaginary beard.

"To where the incident happened of course. We must find an evidence there!" The Prince smiled with the princess's brilliant idea.

"You never failed to amuse me," he said with a wink. The princess then glared at him.

"Stop flirting with me Lyndon! We both know it's forbidden to fall in love with an heir from another kingdom!" she warned him. The prince just chuckled and waggled his brows.

"As you wish your highness," he said mockingly while faking a bow.

"Let's go, we need to sneak inside Ana Mae's room and find the evidence as fast as we could!"

They hurriedly went to Princess Ana Mae's room and started to scan the whole place. They carefully closed the door so that nobody will see them.

Princess Diane checked the bed sheets while Prince Lyndon checked the bathroom.

"Do we need to turn this whole place up and down just to look for evidence?" the prince joked as soon as he went out of the bathroom after checking it.

"Stop talking nonsense Lyndon! We need to atleast do something to help. A traitor is walking around freely, probably hiding behind a generous smile. And it's really dangerous for all of us. Whoever this traitor is, he or she needs to be punished for what she did to the princess!" Diane explained while checking the pillows one by one.

Prince Lyndon just shrugged his shoulders and tried to check on the floor. He continues to search until he noticed something sparkling underneath the princess's bed. He took it and was surprised to see that it was an amulet.

"An amulet with a name engraved in it!" he said while showing the amulet to Princess Diane.

"Let me see!"

Prince Lyndon gave it to her and Diane read the name that was engraved in it.

"Princess Amira Villashne?" she asked with full curiosity.

"Amira Villashne is the second princess of Citrine. She's the cousin of Ana Mae that I was telling you earlier!" Lyndon explained.

"Then, it could be her! Your assumptions were true."

"She has her motives to do such thing. She obviously wants the throne for herself. The only thing that we should do right now is to ask the famous snake hunter in town. Amira might not have catched that snake on her own, since it's really dangerous. She might have paid someone to do it for her. And the first person that comes to my mind is the snake hunter who lives in the middle of the woods!" Prince Lyndon explained.

"Then we need to see that person immediately. Amira needs to be punished for her actions!" Princess Diane said then they left to see the snake hunter.
