Control Your Life

My friend once asked me, why I want to become a writer. I've answered, so that I could at least control the lives of the characters in my book. My life was out of my own control since forever…

Let me introduce myself, my name is Anastasia Kowalsky, and my story begins when I was 25 years old, and didn’t have any hopes for so-called “bright future”.

I’ve never had the guts to follow my dreams. Since everyone told me that writing won’t pay your future bills, I’ve never even tried to study literature. I choose to study medicine instead. I studied hard, but I failed the exams at the end. I ended up studying marketing, getting a degree that I never cared about and finally, working at a boring office, doing things even less interesting than my studies.

And my love life… a love… what? I had one boyfriend, my first boyfriend. Was he handsome? Not at all. Was he smart? Nope. Was he rich? He was depending on my money. More than that, he was a balding nosepicker and smoked cigarettes, which I hate!  Why had I loved him? Because he was bold, he confessed to me, told me I was special, that I was the only one… And then I found out, that he often used the same phrases, and had a lot of “the only ones” …

“Honey, my heart is just too big for you alone,” he said as soon as I caught him red-handed. 

I was devastated. Only then I’ve found out of how naive, ignorant, and laughable I was. Was it really love? Was it just an illusion?

I spent a week crying and then I came back to my office work only to find out that my company went bankrupt!

I started laughing hysterically, I was on the edge of a mental breakdown but fortunately my stomach growled like a reminder, that I’m a human being who’s still alive and got to eat. So, I went to the nearest convenience store, bought some instant noodles and a lottery ticket. Like I was going to prove to myself just how bad my luck really is but… I won!

I scratched the ticket and I won! It wasn’t the main price, of course but with the money I got, I decided to finally take control of my own life!

I decided to chase my dreams of living independently in a capital and becoming a writer!

Then I counted all the money I got from the lottery and I found out that I have enough to buy a good laptop to write, move to a top floor apartment in a central district and live there with no cares at all… for about six months.
