Chapter 2: 'Dear Diary'

MHOREIN's POV

"Let's go." I ordered. Lemuel led the way as we followed. Lemuel stopped in front of a faded metal door. Aiden bumped into me when I suddenly stopped.

    "Ouch." I heard him whisper.

Lemuel opened the door and a loud creaking sound echoed through the empty hall.

"I'll leave you here detectives. There are staffs lurking around this area. You can call them in case of an emergency." He said.

"Thank you." He nodded and left.

A deadly stench made the three of us cough.

"What the hell is that smell?" Aiden coughed.

"Smells like dead rats." Chain cringed.

Kids in white hospital gowns were running around, playing and some are even studying and drawing. They looked normal. Poor kids locked up in this worn out metal chamber.

"What happened to them?" Aiden asked.

"Drugs, Abuse, Rape, In other words, Shitty parents." I hated the thought of even knowing one of these children and knowing what most of them went through. I shook my head.

"What are we looking for to be exact?" Chain asked.

"A diary." A drawer on the other side of the room caught my attention. Chain noticed I was looking at it.

"Isn't that kind of obvious? You know... Why the hell would you hide a diary in plain sight?"

"Maybe that's what she wanted us to think." Chain shrugged.

"Can we get this over with? I don't like the vibe of this place." Aiden said.

I looked at the drawer and slowly made my way into it. I was about to open the drawer when a hard slam on both sides of the room scared the living shit out of me.

"What was that?" I looked at Aiden who has his hands on his ears and Chain who's cringing.

We looked at both sides of the room and saw at least fifteen kids looking intently at us. Three of them covered the drawer. What the hell?

    "Kids, Excuse us-"

     "NO!" She screeched

"Ah fuck..." I whispered. Their high pitched screams echoed in my ear.

"Amy told us to protect this drawer, No matter what." His tiny voice sounded too innocent to belong here.

"But Amy's... Amy told us to-"

"We fucking said NO!" One screamed.

"You sound like mommy." The other one giggled. I looked away trying to control my emotions. Poor kids.

"Cmon guys, Amy cant go back if we don't-" I tried to explain but I was cut off once again.

"Amy can go back! They're lying! She talked to me last night! She was under my bed!" A girl on the left said. At that point all of the kids looked at us. I took a step back and looked behind me. The metal doors are locked. I don't know if staff could hear us. I have a key but I doubt I'd be fast enough to open it before these kids possibly eat us alive.

"No she didn't, You have schizophrenia" Aiden whispered.

     "Shhhh!" I nudged him.

"We should get out of here." Chain said. I looked at every corner of the room, Analyzing it. Anything that the kids can use as a weapon, A way to escape. I saw a crowbar under a lamp post. Got it.

"I NEED THAT DIARY!" I screamed at shoved one of the kids away from the drawer. I opened it a flinched when I saw a dead rat on top of a black and blue notebook. I quickly grabbed the notebook not minding the dead rat before one of the kids took the crowbar and threw it at me.

"Crowbar!" I warned Chain and Aiden. They both ducked and the crowbar hit the metal door.

The impact sent alarms ringing. The kids got distracted and started screaming. Screaming, crying, yelling and the alarm made me almost loose my mind. Chain grabbed my arm and ran toward the door while the staff opened it.

Lemuel inspected us for any signs of injury.

"Are you guys okay?" He asked. I looked at my companions.

    "We're fine..."

"Detectives! What happened here?" Dr. Jay asked with three nurses trailing behind him.

"A bit of mess with the kids. I think one of them is hurt." After I shoved him.

"Did you find anything?" Rose asked.

"I found her diary. As of now, Its the best thing we can get hold of." Jay looked proud.

"That's great. Well, Detectives? What about lunch? On me." He said. I was about to decline but Aiden answered in behalf of us.

"Sure!" The moment he said that an uneasy feeling went through my stomach. I winched and looked at Chain.

"Rose, Would like to join us?" Doctor Jay looked at Rose.

"Sure... Why not?" She displayed a lop sided smile.

We went to a restaurant near by. Not too fancy, Not to cheap either. Just a casual diner.

"So... How long have you been detectives?" Doctor Jay asked as we wait for our orders to get here.

"Uh. About five years? Started at 22." I answered. I sipped my water.

We began to eat when the waiter served our food.

"Thank you..." I mumbled and smiled. In the middle of eating Jay stood up.

"Excuse me, I have to use the comfort room." I just nodded. I took the diary out and read it.

July 9th

He's abusing me. He cant stop, I cant stop him. It started with a casual affair but it became something more, Something worse. Help me.

My eyebrows met when I read what was written. Who was she talking about? I continued to read.

    July 11th

Help me please. He has plans to kill me.

It all started here:

June 4th he told me he loved me

And I admire him too. So much...

Yes, I said yes to him.

In a couple of weeks he changed.

Since our first fight he became worse

The days went on and he was abusive

He abuse me physically and sexually.

Even mentally. He said he want to

Kill me. I got scared. I tried to leave.

It angered him more and he

Locked me up for days and days and

Longer than that. I had no food.

Even my bruises got worse every day. I

Ran away more then once. Help me.

-Amy

My eyebrows arched more. What..? That was a hell hole. I feel like she wanted to say something more-- Wait. My eyes balled. Shit.

I put the book down as soon as Doctor Jay sat down.

    "So? How's the food?"
