Mila’s POV
My hands continued to tremble, as I sat in the back of an SUV alone, that I was quickly escorted out of the building to, and I had to wonder what was happening inside the building after I had been forced to leave the stage by a group of Alpha Gunner’s men. It was clear that the auctioneer had made a grave mistake putting his hands on me once I was sold, but I had to wonder who else in the building was going to pay with their lives, for just looking at me, after I was now officially his possession.
It is said that an Alpha is very territorial of their breeders, since they are his possession, but left unmarked by them, due to the fact that the only she wolf to bear their mark is their mate and Luna. Story has it that only those trusted by the Alpha are allowed to set eyes on his breeders, and all others that do without his permission pay the price of death for doing so, and it was a lonely life I had to look forward to.
The back door opposite to me opened as a man stepped inside, shutting the door behind him, before the driver door opened and shut, and the SUV pulled out quickly from the parking lot. My head remained down, as I tried to catch a side glance of the man now sitting beside me, while I could feel his Alpha presence from within the vehicle, and I knew that it had to be no other than Alpha Gunner.
My eyes had never seen Alpha Gunner in his human form, and my curiosity was getting the best of me at that moment, as I needed to see the man who had been responsible for killing my whole family and had now purchased me as his personal possession. Not able to get a good look at him from my head being lowered, I raised my head, and turned it to look at him, knowing that I was already dead anyhow, what was a glance going to hurt.
From in the darkness of the vehicle, all I could see was his masculine silhouette, staring straight ahead. My eyes moved from the side of his face down to his chest, that was heaving heavily, as if he was trying to calm himself from what just transpired at the auction. Dressed in only a tee shirt and jeans, it was clear that whatever clothes he had been previously wearing to the event had been shredded in his unexpected shift.
His hands grasped onto both his thighs, as if he was in need to hold onto something to calm his beast from within. It was clear that all the stories I had heard about him were true, as he was barely hanging onto his humanity at this moment.
“What is your name?” Came from his lips in the same deep voice I had heard him purchase me with, as his head remained looking forward, making me jump, and look away from him, knowing that I had been caught, staring at him.
It had been days now since I had spoken a word, or that I had been graced with water upon my lips and throat, but I knew that I had to answer him, or I would feel his rath for not doing so. Trying my best to clear my throat, I answer him just above a whisper, “Mila.” As my throat begins to automatically burn from using my vocals, while tears from the pain begin to pool in my eyes.
His head immediately turned to look at me, and I tried to keep my head down, not wanting to look him in the eyes, but I could feel his eyes upon me like daggers. Raising my head I look at him, with my tears still threatening to spill from them, as I look into the eyes of the man that killed my entire family.
As he stares back into my eyes, a growl radiates from him, and I quickly turn my head, knowing that I never should have looked him directly in the eyes, and I was for sure going to pay for it. But I had gotten a glimpse of them, and it was clear that I was looking into the eyes of a killer, and my heart began to race at just the sight of them, as my hands began to tremble even more than before.
I hated myself for being so weak, but I was not born to be a fighter. Instead, I had been groomed by my mother my whole life to become the perfect mate, but everything that I had been taught by her was useless, now that I would never have the chance to have a mate.
Thankfully, the vehicle came to a stop before a gate, and I knew that we must be at the Alpha’s estate, making me feel a bit relieved knowing that I wouldn’t have to be in the vehicle much longer next to him. My head turned to look out the window as the SUV drove up the long lane surrounded by vast forest, making me realize that there were no chances of me escaping my destiny here, as I could see the number of men he had on patrol watching over his estate.
The estate was like a fortress, and I now knew why no one had ever successfully invaded his lands, if this was a mere glimpse of his methods to protect the borders of his territory. As the lane to his house wound up the side of a small mountain, his house finally came into view, showing me that his house looked as cold as he was, as it lacked color or floral vegetation surrounding it.
The SUV came to a stop directly in front of the steps, and Alpha Gunner barely waited for the driver to put the vehicle in park before he exited it, slamming the door behind him, making me jump to his actions. I sat there now alone once again in the vehicle, not knowing what I was supposed to do, in fear that I would upset him more than he already was with me.
Looking out the tinted door window, I watched him climb the massive steps to his house, only pausing at the top of them for a moment to speak to a man waiting for him. The man’s head turned to look at the vehicle, and it was clear that he was giving him orders about what to do with me, before he disappeared into the house, and the man began to descend the steps towards me.
Before I could blink, my door was being opened exposing me to the man that was set to retrieve me. The man froze when our eyes met, and something about him looked familiar, but with all the trauma I had been through in the past couple of days, everything right now was a blur to me, and to be honest, I was thankful for that.
“You need to come with me.” The man finally said to me, before he turned and waited for me to exit the vehicle.
Once I was standing directly behind him, he began to climb the steps, keeping a distance between us, as if he knew the rules of coming into direct contact with me. By his scent, I could tell that he was of beta’s blood like me, and I wondered if he was Alpha Gunner’s lead Beta. Either way, none of that mattered to me, because I knew once I was taken to my room, I would probably never step outside again, other than if Alpha Gunner allowed me to run on my first shift, which was probably a long shot.
As we entered the house, I kept my head down, not wanting to cause an issue for anyone that may make eye contact with me. Moving directly to the stairs, I followed the man in front of me up four flights of stairs to the top floor of the house, which always housed the Alpha and his family.
By the looks of things here, there was no Luna, and I was his sole means to produce an heir. I found some comfort in knowing this, because I wouldn’t have to deal with a jealous Luna out to kill me, and it was one less thing that I had to worry about.
The man stopped in front of a door, unlocking it with a key, making my worst fear come true, that once I stepped into the room he was about to unlock, I was never going to set foot outside again. As he opened the door to reveal the room, I stood before it, staring inside it, too afraid to take a step to go inside, as my body began to shake once again in fear.
“This is your room.” He finally says to me, making me turn my head to look at him, as my eyes filled with tears, knowing that I had to step inside or else he would get in trouble for me not obeying his Alpha’s orders.
Swallowing the small amount of saliva in my mouth, I stepped inside the room, turning to stare back at him, as he slowly closed the door behind me, and I listened as the key turned, locking me inside the room that was to be my prison.
Mila’s POV “Do you like it?” He asks, making me turn the rest of the way around, as I took in the newly remodeled room, that was painted in the most perfect shade of purple, with up-to-date furnishings, suited for a princess. “Like it?” I asked him, as I continued to look around, wondering when he decided to do all of this, as my eyes landed on the walk-in closet, and I could see from here that it had been freshly restocked with new clothes. “Gunner.” Whispers from my lips, as I turned around to look at him, overjoyed with happiness that he had done all this for me. “If you don’t like it, we can change it.” He now said to me with the look of worry on his face, but I quickly closed the distance between us, before I said back to him, “No, I love it. I’m just in shock.” “I promised you that I would buy you clothes, but I never had the chance to do that while you were here, and well, it was time for this room to become more yours then my mothers. With each day that passed, I look
Mila’s POV The drive back to Red Moon was done in silence, just like most of the first drive had been when he had purchased me as his slave, but this time he held my hand in his, as he grieved silently to himself. My heart ached from the pain he was feeling, and I could only pray that time would heal his heart from all the damage that Trina had done to it. As the gates to the estate opened, a sense of being home filled me, especially as we drove up the lane and the house came into view. Outside stood many members of the pack, awaiting the arrival of their Alpha back home, as I was sure they were all curious about what fate Trina had received. While the vehicle came to a stop, my attention turned from the members of the pack to Alpha Gunner, as he sat there with his head looking straight forward, like he was lost in his thoughts. I was sure that he knew that a statement needed to be made to his pack, to insure them of their safety and tha
Mila’s POV I felt more at ease, as we took our seats once again at Trina’s trial, as I knew that even with her best efforts to keep us apart, she had failed, and in return opened a window for the two of us to truly open our hearts to one another. The conversation that Alpha Gunner and I had at the café was one full of mixed emotions, as we laid everything out on that table between us, leaving nothing for either of us to question. Her actions may have initially driven us apart, but her moment of conviction had brought us back together. Now as the council entered the room for the second time, I didn’t have the same grave feeling in my heart as I had the first time, because whatever the outcome of this trial was, I knew that nothing could come between us. But as Trina entered the room, her demeanor, and the look on her face was so different from the first time she had, telling me that a decision had been made on her punishment for her crimes committed.
Mila’s POV As we walked outside the front door to the building, I found myself taking in the late morning sun, while my lungs took in the fresh crisp air. Fall was fully upon us, and in its wake the mountain ranges surrounding the small town were an array of vast warm colors. Although I was welcoming the fresh air into my lungs, its crispness sent a chill down my spine, as I pulled my coat tighter around me. Alpha Gunner must have noticed my actions, and he quickly moved to put his arm around me, as he guided me to a small café across the road. The smell of fresh hot brewed coffee tickled my nose, along with the sweet scent of chocolate as he opened the door for me, and my stomach instantly growled in protest, as I had skipped breakfast this morning, nervous about seeing him today. A booth in the back of the café sat empty, and he quickly guided me to it, before he excused himself, making his way to the counter to place an order.
Mila’s POV There was nothing left that could come from Trina’s mouth that would shock me, but it was clear that she was trying to get under Alpha Gunner’s skin, and it was clearly working, as he let go of my hand and stood, calling her a liar, while a growl came from deep within him. Scared that he was going to lose it here, like he had lost it back at the auction, I quickly stood up by his side, as everyone’s eyes were now on us, as I placed my hand on his arm, begging him to regain control. Thankfully, his head turned in my direction, and in his eyes, I could see the anger that he now had towards Trina, but also, I could see that he was somehow maintaining his cool, before he nodded his head to me, telling me he was okay. “Order! Order! We must have order.” The leader of the council said, as he got to his feet once again. But his command of order didn’t phase my mate, as he remained standing and so did I, by his side. “
Gunner’s POV As Trina stared at me, I wanted to look away, but I couldn’t bring myself to do so. Even with all the evidence piled up against her that I had found, I still saw the little scared girl that my father had brought home. But the more I stared into her eyes today, the more I realized that little girl was no longer, and in her place stood a cold-blooded killer with no remorse for what she had done. I was never more thankful in my life for Mila’s presence today, as I needed her to calm my wolf stirring inside of me with the rage he had towards Trina. Not only was he irate about my parents’ murders, but he also blamed Trina for our mate leaving us, but I knew the truth that it was me that had done that. Either way, her hand was now holding tightly onto mine, and I knew by the feelings she was projecting to me now, she was here because she wanted to be by my side. The room now filled with growls of anger, as Trina was put on display
