“I got them ready.” Mr. Collins said to me as he handed the divorce papers. “But, are you sure you can do this? Do you really mean to divorce the alpha king?” A scoff left my throat. Was their alpha king a deity that can't be divorced? I've lived in silence since I met him, and I think it's time to move ahead since it didn't work out. “Dont worry, I'll handle things right.” was all I could say to him as I stood and left his office, slamming the door shut behind me. His chamber wasn't too far from the palace, so I didn't bother to board a cab. It would be better if I trekked and thought my life through to know my next move. But the interesting part is that I'm about to divorce Alpha Ramsey whether he wants it or not….of course he should love it. Isn't that what he could be waiting for? I left my clan, the Grimming Manes Clan just because I couldn't stand my family any longer. I was the lycan princess of the clan, but after the death of my mother when I turned eleven, my father remarried, and that was the beginning of my hell. Life with my stepmother made me almost curse my deceased mother for passing on, and when I couldn't stand it any longer, I escaped from the clan on my eighteenth birthday. Luckily, I found my mate in the woods that night under the full moon….and he turned out to be the alpha king of the Divergent Shadows pack. Regardless that the werewolves are sworn enemies to the lycans, I still gave in, especially since he accepted the matebond and marked me that night. I did not hesitate to follow him to his pack, but I hid the fact I was the lycan princess people know but haven't seen. I spent every penny to build with Alpha Ramsey, staying with him in the palace and helping him build his empire. After two years of meeting him, he crowned me his Luna. Everything went smoothly for two years. We decided not to have a child yet until we are set to share our attention, only for all our sweet moments to be shattered in a blink of an eye. That day when he returned from his company work and threw the file at me, I couldn't believe what I saw. A photo of me lying on bed with Alpha Darius of the Moon Shadows pack, and a written message with my Luna stamp. Not just that, there was a photo of me with Alpha Darius as if we were discussing, and a record of our discussion where the developmental secrets of the Divergent Shadows pack was spilled to him. Alpha Ramsey had been in enmity with Alpha Darius even before I met him, and since the Divergent Shadows pack were processing the production of a medicine that could cure a silver and wolfsbane, the other packs were relentless to know their secret. The Divergent Shadows pack had the best physician, and Alpha Ramsey had put me through college to study pharmacology which had been my dream profession. That day, our sweet union turned to a bitter one. Alpha Ramsey never believed a word from me, not when there was evidence of my betrayal. But even the moon goddess knew I was innocent. I had never stood a second with Darius, so how could I? I was so perplexed as to how I committed all those crimes but wasn't getting it, and no matter how I insisted that a thorough secret investigation should be done, Ramsey didn't give me a listening ear. Our marriage crashed. The Alpha family wanted me out but Ramsey insisted I would suffer for betraying him. I reached out to my family for help but they warned me not to even disclose my true identity to avoid tarnishing their image since I escaped myself. Life in the palace—with my husband and mate—became so hard for me. He treated me like a slave and made sure everyone looked down on me. I lost my happiness and peace and only regretted meeting him. I became hopeless with no value. As if that wasn't enough, he brought in another woman who happened to be his ex lover. Nina promised to make sure I took my life myself. She made it known to me that she never left Ramsey, and I showed up from nowhere claiming to be his mate. Two years elapsed with nothing but suffering. My efforts to bring the truth to light was all in vain. No one listened to me. No one believed me. The once lycan princess was a slave to the werewolves and that was the most hurting part of it. Until when I got the news that he was going to crown Nina his Luna and officially make me the pack's slave. Four years of harmony and two years of pain with him….I decided I wont stoop that low. There was no way I would endure it again. They didn't know I was a lycan because I used a charm to hide my identity, but I was just fed up. All my years of being with him happily, I had saved enough, and luckily, he took nothing from me, so I planned to divorce him and move on to the human land to start my life afresh. I didn't need him to reject me when I could do that. It felt so good we didn't have a child together so nothing will pull me back. When I reached the palace, I went straight to his office and luckily he was there alone. For a palace slave like me, I had no reason to come to his office without his order….and knowing what it means to be a pack slave, dying would be preferable. I rang the doorbell and there came his deep masculine voice from the inside. I gasped for breath, shut my eyes for sometime before opening them again, then I walked in silently. As I turned, our eyes locked….and I could see was fury and hatred tugged at the corner of his eyes. I bowed to him respectfully, “Your Majesty….” my heart hammered continuously in my chest, my heartbeat fastened. “What are you doing here? Didn't I say I didn't want to set my eyes on you?” he growled as usual, his fingers curled into fist. I lowered my gaze, my chest tightened with despair, "There's something I need to give you.” He stared at me for seconds before responding, “I just hope it isn't fake evidence that you are innocent. If it is, I will have the guards give you lashes this time.” A dirty smug pulled my lips apart, but bitterness clung to my throat. Recalling our sweet moment together, how this man cherished me, how I felt loved and protected by him…I wouldn't believe in my dreams it would all turn out this way. So, he could actually watch his guards lash me? If it reached this extent, then he could probably execute me. His expression was emotionless while he kept tapping his middle finger on the table. I marched towards him and dropped the file, then exhaled a deep breath that had hung in my throat. “It's a divorce paper which I've already signed. With a heavy heart, I plead that you sign it so we can reject each other and part ways. That way, you can rule your pack and enjoy your marriage with Nina.” As I said those words, tears struggled in my eyes. I hated that I lost my mate, the man who gave me hope when I thought I'd lost all of it. I wouldn't forget how he treated me in the past, how I was a treasure to him. But having to lose trust in me and not listening to me hurt more. Two years of trying to prove my innocence, he didn't bulge nor believe a tiny bit of it. He didn't even further the investigation when I requested it, more like he wanted all that to happen. At some point, it made me feel like he knew I was a lycan and decided to discard me….but using those tactics wasn't the best. Or, was he trying to make me miserable on behalf of my species? Did he know I wasn't loved at home and that no one would come for me? A sinking feeling overwhelmed me. I sniffed and added, “If you sign it, I will leave immediately.” He looked at me with scorn, pulling a long face, “And you're so sure that I'll sign it? Did I ever tell you that I want us to divorce? I am not done with passing out the frustration you caused me back to you, Johanna.” “But you're going to crown Nina.” “I am the alpha king and I can have as many women as I wish.” he snapped at me, his eyes darkened. Lump formed in my throat. My fingers squeezed my dress. “But if you insist, then I'll have no choice than to release your sextape with Darius? What do you say?” he narrowed his gaze, his words came amid gritted teeth.KING RAMSEY.“Evelyn is missing as well, and no one is giving hope with their words. They all claim to not know her whereabouts, whereas she returned to the palace with the other servants.” Beta Sam explained to me.It's been over a day, yet Anna was nowhere to be found. At first, I thought Evelyn would be back, but she went missing the same day as Anna, and that's alarming. How can a Princess and her maid be missing and no one was talking about them like it was a setup? They are all less concerned, making it look like it has been what they wanted. Even the Supreme Consort isn't saying anything—the officials too.I turned to Sam, “Looks like we did not search well in the woods. We should go beyond the border like the last time. Bring all your men, the whole clan would be searched this time ....we must find them." I remarked, and he bowed to me.As we entered the car to return to my clan, my cell phone buzzed. I checked, and it was a message from an unsaved contact. The message made
JOHANNA.With the last statement the man made, I knew he just didn't know that I was the Supreme Heiress, but that he knew a lot about me and my family. I glanced at the cup that had slid my palm and at the man. “I'm sorry!!”He smiled at me and picked up the cup. He washed it with the water beside him and poured another drink for me. “I expected you to be shocked. Of course, you weren't expecting it….” he stretched his hands, handing over to me the cup of liquor. “So, can my Princess share with me why he left the palace?”I snorted. “Well, I think knowing you better will be the first thing before sharing something confidential. What relationship do you have with my family to know the source of my mother's death?”He dropped his cup and rested his arms on his thighs. I was beginning to sweat already…..my mouth was drying up.“I was the Supreme Kings Beta!!”For some time, I shut my eyes and opened them again. My father's previous beta!“I resigned after the death of Supreme Luna becau
JOHANNA.While the maids were asleep, I was awake, busy watching them. I had planned with Andriana on how I would leave, and I won't miss the opportunity. She had told me the time everything would be set, and to not miss the time, that's why I am still awake.I leaned on the wall while seated on the bed, watching as the clock ticked. That merchant with a big belly and a shapeless body would be stunned when he asked me the next day and didn't see me. If he is strong enough, then he can come after me in the woods, and leaving their town will give me the strength to do what I want.My arms rested on the pillow that I had placed on my thighs. I yawned and wiped my face to get over the sleep lurking on my eyelid. The door slowly opened, and I knew it was Andriana, so I got down from my bed as well. She sneaked into the room and helped me out of the room, and we didn't say a word to each other. As we climbed down the stairs that would lead to the balcony, she glanced at me several times.“W
JOHANNA.“You're going to be claimed by a merchant that would take care of you and your child, so don't be scared.” the man said to me.My lips dropped open. Was this man okay upstairs? How can you give out a married pregnant woman to another man to claim? This should better be a dream.“Let's go!!”Before I could say a word, he continued moving. We reached a pavement road, but it didn't seem like a major road, and he boarded a cab that drove us to a mansion filled with servants of different genders and ages.I stood still for some time. “These people aren't werewolves or lycans? Are they?” I shook my head. If they were werewolves or lycans, their scent and wolf should be lingering around me as a welcome to the new place, but nothing was happening. I sensed nothing like a wolf in them, and they didn't even give a damn to me.The man climbed the veranda, and I did so as well. Then we walked into the sitting room where an elderly man was sitting on the couch with three ladies around her
JOHANNA.Evelyn sat beside me, leaning on my shoulder. I had tried my best to save her and I succeeded, now we aren't sure where to head any longer, and I'm not sure if there's a route that would lead us away from this deserted river.I was weak as well, and I wouldn't be able to carry Evelyn, so I made up my mind that we would stay on the river bank until the next morning and we would continue our journey. But after about an hour, when she felt she had recovered lots of strength, she insisted that we leave that area.Despite how I tried to make her understand that she was too weak and I could even manage more than her, she insisted, and I had no choice but to give in. She struggled with her feet as we walked ahead, and the least I could do was to support each step she took.I ordered her to wrap her arm around my neck, and she did, and then we began walking slowly until we left the shore.Back to the woods, but in a different place that seemed to be in another Clan, we walked gently,
JOHANNA.Late at night, I slept and woke up. My heart was palpitating. I expected that King Ramsey or his Beta would be here by now. Was it that they didn't get the letter or that they had yet to find me? By sunset tomorrow, this masked woman will return here to hear from me, and I wouldn't want to face her.The fact that I can't agree to assure her of handing over the Supreme Royal file because I'm sure they would still assassinate me after that is one reason I shouldn't be here till the sun sets the next day.If King Ramsey or his Beta gets that letter, they would come here with their men, and my safety would be guaranteed because I'm sure that no matter how hefty the guards here seem to be, they would never fight against the royal guards and warriors.I leaned on the cage, staring at the dark sky. “I just hope it doesn't rain. I won't have to catch a cold here. My wolf is already doing a lot to protect me from the wind.” I muttered and moistened my lips.My mind was heavy. I prayed
