What is Chelsey up to?

The number of stares directed at Stacey and the diverse array of expressions playing on the faces of the students made her nervous.

"Hi, I'm Stacey Joanelle McGrath."

"Who cares?" Kayla interjected and the class erupted in a loud laughter.

"You are welcome Stacey, take the seat beside Mason." The teacher mumbled pointing at an empty seat. When she looked beside the seat, her eyes widened in surprise, the guy who sat there was the same dude she had bumped into earlier.

When they locked eyes, he winked at her. She averted her gaze from him and walked to her seat.

"So let's continue," The teacher started but the bell rang so the teacher had to leave the class.

Sighs of relief and muttering filled the classroom enough to show how happy the students were when the teacher left the class.

Stacey lowered her head on her desk when lots of stares from all angles were directed at her and the class started to get too noisy.

"Hey kiddo, aren't you like supposed to be in middle school?"

Stacey raised her head on hearing the voice and met Mason staring at her.

She didn't say anything to him, she just looked away and went back to her former position. But she had to sit up when she heard a voice she concluded belonged to a teacher. A woman had just woman walked into the class. She was chubby and had glasses on.

"Good morning class, how are you all doing?" She asked smiling.

Some didn't even answer, they just continued with whatever they were doing, and others just kept chatting with their friends.

"Class, it's time to focus and not waste your parents' resources!" The woman hollered making the class go silent and they fixed their eyes on her.

The teacher taught them Geometry, and when her time was up, she left. They had one more subject before it was break time.

After the bell for break rang the students found their way to the cafeteria. Stacey just stayed in the class, she was doing her best to avoid the students like she always did at her former school, she didn't want to get into any trouble.

Stacey's head was lowered on the desk when she felt a tap on her shoulder.

She lifted her head and saw a girl standing in front of her.

"Hi, Stacey." The girl smiled waving at her.

"Hello," Stacey replied returning the smile.

"I'm Adriel Davidson, I noticed you've been sitting here since the break started. Won't you go to the cafeteria for lunch?"

"Well, I'm not really hungry," Stacey mumbled but her stomach growled loudly at that moment exposing her lie.

Stacey looked away embarrassed.

Adriel chuckled, "It's okay, you don't have to feel embarrassed. I'm guessing you are avoiding the people around here, sorry about all that happened this morning."

"Thank you. I would like to go to the cafeteria but I don't like crowded places and...." "

"We can sit far from the others if you want." She suggested chipping in.

"Ok, let go." Stacey nodded in agreement after giving it a thought.

When Adriel and Stacey got to the cafeteria, they sat at a table far from the others.

"I'll go order something for us, what would you like to have?" Adriel inquired turning to Stacey.

"French fries and a strawberry milkshake will be fine," Stacey replied.

A few minutes later Adriel came back with the orders, after placing the tray containing the meals on the table she took her seat.

"I got the same thing for both of us."

Stacey took some cash out of her pocket and stretched them to Adriel.

Adriel stared at her with raised brows, "what's that for?"

"For the lunch."

Adriel shook her head, " No, you don't have to pay me back."

"No just take it, it won't be nice if you pay for my food on the first day we meet," Stacey countered.

"Consider it a treat from your new friend, " Adriel smiled warmly.

"Thank you, Adriel."

Stacey appreciated but she got no response from Adriel. Stacey noticed her attention was elsewhere.

Stacey's eyes traced the direction Adriel's eyes were at. Adriel was looking at a guy who was seated beside Mason. Stacey recognised him, he and Mason left the class together earlier.

When Mason met Stacey's gaze, he whispered something to the guy next to him and they began to saunter toward Stacey's and Adriel's table.

"How do I look?" Adriel asked turning to Stacey as she fixed her hair.

Stacey wondered why Adriel was acting that way all of a sudden.

"You look beautiful." Stacey smiled.

Mason halted when he got to their table. Winking at Stacey, he drew out the empty chair which was beside her and sat down.

The guy who was with Mason did the same

"Hi, " The guy mumbled turning to Adriel and then Stacey.

"Hello Finn, " a smile grew on Adriel's lips.

"Mason, I'll go grab us some lunch." The guy mumbled straightening himself up.

"I can share mine with you." Adriel offered.

 "You don't have to."

"Come on, I don't mind. Moreover, I won't be able to finish all of these on my own." Adriel said pointing at her food. That was a lie, Adriel was a lover of French fries she could have the fries on her plate, the ones on Stacey's plate, and still crave more but she wouldn't mind letting go of her favourite food if she was to share with Finn.

"Are you sure?" Finn asked raising a brow at Adriel and she nodded.

"Of course."

"Thank you for sharing." Finn smiled sitting back on the chair.

"That's so nice of you Adriel," Mason mumbled.

He glanced at Stacey expecting her to share her food with him like Adriel just did but she didn't say anything.

"I'll be sharing kiddo's lunch then." He shrugged.

"Who is kiddo?" Adriel and Finn asked exchanging glances.

"Oh, you don't know? She is!" Mason chuckled pointing at Stacey.

Adriel and Finn laughed shaking their heads.

Stacey's face contorted in a frown, "My name is Stacey, not Kiddo."

Now stares from the students present in the cafeteria were directed at Stacey's and Adriel's table since the hottest guys in the school were seated with them, and even eating together.

Mason picked a fry from her plate and put it in his mouth, he picked another and then another before licking his lips just to get a reaction from Stacey.

"It's so yummy." He mumbled and before Stacey knew it, he took the whole plate.

"Give it back Mason," Stacey murmured when she realised, she tried to take it back from him but she couldn't he kept moving it around making it difficult for her.

His eyes widened in surprise, and he chuckled.

"I had no idea you could speak, considering the fact that you've been ignoring me since I sat here."

A smirk tugged the side of Mason's lips.

"Take it if you can." He shrugged springing up to his feet and lifting the plate.

Stacey realised what he was trying to do, he knew he was way taller and he was trying to use that against her. She wasn't going to give him a chance to mock her in front of the students.

"You can have it," Stacey mumbled rolling her eyes at him.

By now, everyone's eyes were fixed on their table, watching the drama Mason was creating.

When Stacey looked in Kayla's and Chelsey's direction, they glared at her.

Stacey wondered what she had done to upset them this time.

Suddenly after Chelsey whispered something to Kayla and she nodded, they stood up with their meal and walked to Stacey's table.

"Hi, sis," Chelsey faked a smile as she took her seat.

"Hey Mason, Finn." Kayla smiled settling on the chair.

"Oh! Hi Adriel, we didn't notice your presence." Kayla gasped when her gaze shifted to Adriel and then she and Chelsey burst out laughing.

Adriel knew it was a deliberate attempt to make her mad but she was ready to beat them at their own game.

"It's not surprising since you both visited the eye doctor this morning, " Adriel retorted. Her voice was laced with sarcasm.

Everyone at the table except Chelsey and Kayla whose faces contorted in anger as they shot Adriel a glare.

What Chelsey said next shocked Stacey.

"Sister, why aren't you eating? You can share my lunch if you want." She offered with a smile staring directly at Stacey whose jaw had dropped.

Stacey was perplexed by Chelsey's behaviour, Chelsey was never nice to her and she never for once called her sister and she just did. In fact, she hated to tell people that they were related or even sisters.

Stacey knew something was amiss, she hoped that Chelsey wasn't up to some mischief. It was just their first day in this school.
