The number of stares directed at Stacey and the diverse array of expressions playing on the faces of the students made her nervous.
"Hi, I'm Stacey Joanelle McGrath." "Who cares?" Kayla interjected and the class erupted in a loud laughter."You are welcome Stacey, take the seat beside Mason." The teacher mumbled pointing at an empty seat. When she looked beside the seat, her eyes widened in surprise, the guy who sat there was the same dude she had bumped into earlier. When they locked eyes, he winked at her. She averted her gaze from him and walked to her seat."So let's continue," The teacher started but the bell rang so the teacher had to leave the class.Sighs of relief and muttering filled the classroom enough to show how happy the students were when the teacher left the class.Stacey lowered her head on her desk when lots of stares from all angles were directed at her and the class started to get too noisy. "Hey kiddo, aren't you like supposed to be in middle school?"Stacey raised her head on hearing the voice and met Mason staring at her.She didn't say anything to him, she just looked away and went back to her former position. But she had to sit up when she heard a voice she concluded belonged to a teacher. A woman had just woman walked into the class. She was chubby and had glasses on."Good morning class, how are you all doing?" She asked smiling. Some didn't even answer, they just continued with whatever they were doing, and others just kept chatting with their friends."Class, it's time to focus and not waste your parents' resources!" The woman hollered making the class go silent and they fixed their eyes on her. The teacher taught them Geometry, and when her time was up, she left. They had one more subject before it was break time. After the bell for break rang the students found their way to the cafeteria. Stacey just stayed in the class, she was doing her best to avoid the students like she always did at her former school, she didn't want to get into any trouble.Stacey's head was lowered on the desk when she felt a tap on her shoulder. She lifted her head and saw a girl standing in front of her. "Hi, Stacey." The girl smiled waving at her. "Hello," Stacey replied returning the smile. "I'm Adriel Davidson, I noticed you've been sitting here since the break started. Won't you go to the cafeteria for lunch?""Well, I'm not really hungry," Stacey mumbled but her stomach growled loudly at that moment exposing her lie.Stacey looked away embarrassed.Adriel chuckled, "It's okay, you don't have to feel embarrassed. I'm guessing you are avoiding the people around here, sorry about all that happened this morning." "Thank you. I would like to go to the cafeteria but I don't like crowded places and...." " "We can sit far from the others if you want." She suggested chipping in. "Ok, let go." Stacey nodded in agreement after giving it a thought. When Adriel and Stacey got to the cafeteria, they sat at a table far from the others. "I'll go order something for us, what would you like to have?" Adriel inquired turning to Stacey. "French fries and a strawberry milkshake will be fine," Stacey replied.A few minutes later Adriel came back with the orders, after placing the tray containing the meals on the table she took her seat. "I got the same thing for both of us." Stacey took some cash out of her pocket and stretched them to Adriel.Adriel stared at her with raised brows, "what's that for?""For the lunch."Adriel shook her head, " No, you don't have to pay me back." "No just take it, it won't be nice if you pay for my food on the first day we meet," Stacey countered. "Consider it a treat from your new friend, " Adriel smiled warmly."Thank you, Adriel."Stacey appreciated but she got no response from Adriel. Stacey noticed her attention was elsewhere.Stacey's eyes traced the direction Adriel's eyes were at. Adriel was looking at a guy who was seated beside Mason. Stacey recognised him, he and Mason left the class together earlier. When Mason met Stacey's gaze, he whispered something to the guy next to him and they began to saunter toward Stacey's and Adriel's table."How do I look?" Adriel asked turning to Stacey as she fixed her hair.Stacey wondered why Adriel was acting that way all of a sudden."You look beautiful." Stacey smiled.Mason halted when he got to their table. Winking at Stacey, he drew out the empty chair which was beside her and sat down. The guy who was with Mason did the same"Hi, " The guy mumbled turning to Adriel and then Stacey. "Hello Finn, " a smile grew on Adriel's lips. "Mason, I'll go grab us some lunch." The guy mumbled straightening himself up. "I can share mine with you." Adriel offered. "You don't have to.""Come on, I don't mind. Moreover, I won't be able to finish all of these on my own." Adriel said pointing at her food. That was a lie, Adriel was a lover of French fries she could have the fries on her plate, the ones on Stacey's plate, and still crave more but she wouldn't mind letting go of her favourite food if she was to share with Finn."Are you sure?" Finn asked raising a brow at Adriel and she nodded."Of course." "Thank you for sharing." Finn smiled sitting back on the chair. "That's so nice of you Adriel," Mason mumbled. He glanced at Stacey expecting her to share her food with him like Adriel just did but she didn't say anything. "I'll be sharing kiddo's lunch then." He shrugged. "Who is kiddo?" Adriel and Finn asked exchanging glances. "Oh, you don't know? She is!" Mason chuckled pointing at Stacey. Adriel and Finn laughed shaking their heads.Stacey's face contorted in a frown, "My name is Stacey, not Kiddo."Now stares from the students present in the cafeteria were directed at Stacey's and Adriel's table since the hottest guys in the school were seated with them, and even eating together.Mason picked a fry from her plate and put it in his mouth, he picked another and then another before licking his lips just to get a reaction from Stacey."It's so yummy." He mumbled and before Stacey knew it, he took the whole plate."Give it back Mason," Stacey murmured when she realised, she tried to take it back from him but she couldn't he kept moving it around making it difficult for her.His eyes widened in surprise, and he chuckled. "I had no idea you could speak, considering the fact that you've been ignoring me since I sat here."A smirk tugged the side of Mason's lips."Take it if you can." He shrugged springing up to his feet and lifting the plate. Stacey realised what he was trying to do, he knew he was way taller and he was trying to use that against her. She wasn't going to give him a chance to mock her in front of the students. "You can have it," Stacey mumbled rolling her eyes at him. By now, everyone's eyes were fixed on their table, watching the drama Mason was creating. When Stacey looked in Kayla's and Chelsey's direction, they glared at her.Stacey wondered what she had done to upset them this time.Suddenly after Chelsey whispered something to Kayla and she nodded, they stood up with their meal and walked to Stacey's table. "Hi, sis," Chelsey faked a smile as she took her seat. "Hey Mason, Finn." Kayla smiled settling on the chair. "Oh! Hi Adriel, we didn't notice your presence." Kayla gasped when her gaze shifted to Adriel and then she and Chelsey burst out laughing.Adriel knew it was a deliberate attempt to make her mad but she was ready to beat them at their own game. "It's not surprising since you both visited the eye doctor this morning, " Adriel retorted. Her voice was laced with sarcasm.Everyone at the table except Chelsey and Kayla whose faces contorted in anger as they shot Adriel a glare. What Chelsey said next shocked Stacey. "Sister, why aren't you eating? You can share my lunch if you want." She offered with a smile staring directly at Stacey whose jaw had dropped.Stacey was perplexed by Chelsey's behaviour, Chelsey was never nice to her and she never for once called her sister and she just did. In fact, she hated to tell people that they were related or even sisters.Stacey knew something was amiss, she hoped that Chelsey wasn't up to some mischief. It was just their first day in this school."Stacey, why aren't you eating? You can share mine." Chelsey offered for the second time."Thank you Chelsey but I'm okay," Stacey mumbled. She knew better than to trust Chelsey, for all she knew it could be a deliberate scheme to embarrass her publicly or get her into some kind of trouble. "Is she your sister?" Mason glanced at Stacey as he pointed at Chelsey. "Yes, she is my twin sister," Chelsey replied smiling. "I wasn't talking to you, I was talking to Stace," Mason muttered turning to Stacey."Oh, I'm sorry," Chelsey apologised her cheeks turning red in embarrassment. "Mason, first my name is Stacey, not Stace and you shouldn't speak to my sister that way, don't be rude to her," Stacey stated. "It's none of your business, Stacey. He can talk to me the way he pleases." Chelsey chipped in rolling her eyes at Stacey. Chelsey grabbed her milkshake from the table and just as she was to take a sip, it fell out of her hand pouring on Stacey. "Sorry, you'll have to go clean that
Chelsey frowned at the outcome of things. She and Kayla were the ones who stuck the gum on the teacher's chair, and then they blamed Stacey for it so she would get punished. What they didn't expect was that Mason was going to take the blame. "My plan didn't work, why would Mason take the blame? Does he like her?" Chelsey asked turning to Kayla."No, you are just thinking too much. Mason just met Stacey today, you know how Mason is, he is mischievous maybe he just wants to be in detention," Kayla shrugged. "Ok, but I'll have to do something so Stacey gets punished." Chelsey cackled. .... Once school was closed Adriel and Stacey walked out of the class together. Stacey was headed to detention and she hated it. In her entire existence it was the first time she got detention, Stacey was the one to avoid trouble or any form of mischief at all costs. But all thanks to Chelsey, she had to deal with this now. "Since I don't really have much to do when I go back home, would you like me to
"Did I not just ask you a question? Where are you coming from?" Stacey's mom barked taking steps to her."From school mom," Stacey flinched lowering her gaze and avoiding her mom's icy glare.Stacey had the conviction that Jane must have told her mom that she had detention and was going to be back home late. If her mom was reacting this way it only meant that Chelsey told her something else."Why are you late?" Her mom's frosty voice filled the room making Stacey snap out of her thoughts.Stacey was about to give her mom a reply when Jane interfered as she walked into the living room."Ma'am I told you, she had detention," Jane muttered.Stacey's mom peered at Jane with narrowed eyes and curled up her lip, " I wasn't talking to you. I was speaking to Stacey. I believe she's not dumb, let her speak for herself."Jane opened her mouth to say something but Stacey shook her head in disuassion, she didn't want the issue to result in anything else. If Jane interfered her mom was going to mak
"Hi," Stacey mumbled to Adriel whom she had just seen before scooting away. Adriel ran after her, when she reached Stacey, she pulled her by the arm lightly. "What's wrong Stacey? Are you okay?" Adriel's voice was soft with concern as she stared at Stacey who looked like she was going to burst into tears in no time. "I'm fine Adriel," Stacey answered trying to put on a smile but from the look on Adriel's face, Stacey knew she wasn't buying it. "No, you are not!" Adriel countered. "If you are fine, why then is there tears in your eyes?" She asked placing her hand on Stacey's shoulder. "I am fine, something got into my eyes." Stacey lied."Bye, I have to go now," Stacey rushed her words and ran off before Adriel could say anything else. When Adriel got to the class, she saw Chelsey walking to Mason's seat, Adriel frowned when she noticed the huge grin on Chelsey's face like that of someone who had won a lottery. "Hi, Mason." Chelsey smiled when she got to him. "Hey," Mason re
Adriel boiled with rage the moment she set her eyes on Chelsey, she wondered how she managed to be so heartless to Stacey and feel no remorse. Fear was written all over Chelsey's face, Adriel deduced it was a result of the words Mason had said before he went in search of Stacey. But that wasn't enough to calm Adriel's anger, Chelsey was going to get it from her before would return.Adriel strutted to Chelsey, her eyes conveyed the fury bubbling in her tummy as her eyes were fixed on her. "Chelsey, how dare you do that to Stacey?" "It's not your business, she's my sister and l do whatever I like." Chelsey rolled her eyes at Adriel and then she pushed her, Adriel would have fallen but Finn's hand draped around her holding her firmly as she lost her balance. "Are you okay?" He asked helping her back to her feet. "Yes, thank you." Adriel smiled, butterflies dancing in her tummy as she gazed at Finn. The smile on Adriel's face faded into a scowl the moment she turned to Chelsey, "why a
Stacey took her backpack ready to go home after saying goodbye to Adriel, Mason, and Finn. She walked over to Chelsey."Hey, Chelsey, is Luke here?" Stacey asked her. "No, Mom is here to pick us up," She replied smiling. Stacey looked on surprised. She wondered if her eyes were starting to play tricks on her. She shut her eyes and wiped them with her palm before opening them but the smile was still plastered on Chelsey's face. It had been a very long time since Chelsey smiled at her this way, except for the evil smiles she always had on her face when she got her into trouble. "Is something wrong? Why are you smiling?" Stacey asked."Nothing is wrong, it isn't a bad idea to smile at my sister, or is it? Let's go." She mumbled putting her hand around Stacey's shoulder.Stacey was stunned, she nodded and together they ambled to the car. "Good afternoon Mom." Chelsey greeted as they got to the car. "How are you darling?" She asked. "I'm fine," Chelsey replied. "Good afternoon Mom.
"Are you okay Stacey? What happened to you?" Stacey's father asked helping her to her feet, he made her sit on the couch but she couldn't move her arm. "I slipped Dad," Stacey lied avoiding her father's gaze. Her Dad said no words, he just asked Luke to get the car ready so they could go to the hospital. Stacey and her Dad got into the car while her Mom and Chelsey stayed behind they didn't care if Stacey was okay or not after all they had already concluded that Stacey was faking it. "Doctor, how's the condition of her arm?" Her Dad asked Dr Ben their family doctor after he was done examining and treating Stacey's arm. "It's a dislocation it will heal up In about two weeks. She needs to rest and also take the pain relievers I prescribed, make sure to avoid carrying heavy objects before it heals." "Thank you, Doctor Ben," Her father expressed his gratitude."You are welcome. Get well soon Stacey. " The doctor "I'm so happy you're back Dad I missed you a lot." Stacey smiled turni
When Chelsey stepped into the room, she peered at Stacey with crinkled eyes which expressed suspicion. She studied Stacey's face for a while before she spoke up. "Stacey, who were you talking to?" Stacey just stared at her without saying a word, she averted her gaze from Chelsey looking around the room but Mason was nowhere to be seen, she sighed in relief making sure Chelsey wouldn't hear before she turned to face her. "Stacey, I heard voices from your room. Were you talking to anyone?" She asked again this time raising her voice. Once again Stacey refrained from responding. "I was probably just hearing things, how's your arm now?" Chelsey inquired. "It's fine thank you," Stacey smiled. Chelsey left the room afterward.Chelsey let out a long sigh after Chelsey was gone, she wondered what she would have said if Chelsey had seen Mason in her room. He just came out from behind the curtain where he hid himself before the door opened. If it was up to him, he wouldn't bother to hi
