Laura sprinted back to the house, nearly tripping over her robe. She burst into the studio, where King was now sitting up on the futon, looking slightly less like a content cat and more like a confused bear.

"You will not believe what just happened!" Laura shrieked, waving the letter in the air.

King blinked, clearly not fully awake. "Did you win the lottery? Because if you won the lottery, I call dibs on that really nice art set I saw…"

"Better than the lottery!" Laura exclaimed. "My dad! He's okay! He beat cancer!"

King's eyes widened. He was instantly awake now, all traces of sleep gone. "That's… that's amazing, babyyy! That's incredible!" He reached for her, pulling her into a tight hug.
