Amelia's POV

Getting Ryder to drink my blood was like trying to tame a storm.

The first time I tried, he knocked the vial from my hand. It shattered against the wall, the precious drops wasted. The second time, he lunged at me, and I barely managed to dodge. His claws grazed my arm, leaving three shallow cuts.

"Ryder, please," I begged, pressing my bleeding palm toward his mouth. "Just drink. Please."

He snarled, backing into the corner like a cornered animal. His eyes were wild, unfocused. But

"He's close, I can sense him and that evil woman." Noah said as they made their way to the front line.Amelia drew her closer to him when he said those words, and Ryder slowed down his pace so he could stay close to them."Wait." Ryder's father said, and they all paused, causing the troops behind them to stop as well."He's here." Ryder whispered, and went to stand in front of Noah and Amelia. There was the sound of leaves and twigs crushing under the feet of many men, before Jasper and Camille appeared, with a great multitude of troops right behind them."And there they are." Amelia said dryly, laying her hands on Noah's shoulder and keeping him close. She knew her puppy was strong, but her maternal instincts didn't made her worry unceasingly about them.Camille smiled victoriously when she saw them, and happily clapped her hands."Oh darling!" She called out to Jasper, "Look! You were right, here they are!""Ah yes." Jasper said and grinned when his eyes fell on Ryder, "For a momen

AMELIA's POV"I had hoped we would have some more time, but it seems Jasper and Camille couldn't wait to put an end to us." I said and rubbed at the chill I felt on my upper arm.The warriors in training had noticed the change in the sky and had paused in their archery to study the skies."You really think this means they've gone to the king?" Ryder asked , looking up at the sky with some concern. I nodded when he looked back at me."I would not have been sure if I hadn't read those books of history. I read in one Chapter about the signs of the king's coming wrath. These dark clouds were one of them."I looked up again and shook my head, "Plus, I can't smell it, the rain. I've always been able to catch even the faintest whiff of a storm coming. Not this time."Ryder nodded slowly."I believe you." He said and turned to the warriors, "They've trained well. I would have wished for more time, but it seems like we will have to make do with what we already have.""Yeah." I whispered and h

JASPER's pov"Ryder and Amelia probably believe they have advantage, with the Starlight pack Alpha on their side, but they have another thing coming for them." I said to Camilla. She had been restless since we returned from that wretched pack. But while she was losing her mind, I was actually strategizing."What are we going to do? We don't know any other pack that is immune to pain." Camille whined and I just smiled."Maybe we don't, but that doesn't mean we don't have other resources." I said and leaned back on the couch I sat on, "You see, Camille, while you've been pulling your hairs apart I've actually been gathering some good old friends who can help us."That seemed to get her attention and she relaxed enough to hear me out."What old friends?" She asked."Some witches, other rogues. And with just enough bad mouthing about Amelia and her mutt, we all now have a common goal. We all want those two killed. Maybe when we kill them, we can channel their strength."Camille smiled mi

AMELIA's pov"Well, that was eventful." I said to Ryder as we made our way back to our pack land."You can say that again." Ryder said, placing a hand around my shoulder, "We've formed new alliances, and both Camille and Jasper were thrown out on their arses. Safe to say that was quite satisfying.""I agree." I said, absentmindedly leaning into his embrace, "But now that we’ve got the allegiance of the starlight pack, where do we go from here?""The Starlight Alpha's allegiance is one thing. But there are other forces to assemble. My parents are calling in their best troops, and I suppose I need to do the same."I nodded slowly, "Do you have the right set of people in mind?""I most definitely do." He said confidently, "And once we get home, I'm going to reach out to each and every one of them.""I hope and pray their responses are favorable."And most of their responses were indeed positive. Some of the others, despite wanting to help us, still had their reservations about whether No

AMELIA's pov"We will visit the starlight pack and ask for their allegiance." Ryder told me the next morning as we were about setting out for our journey."That's the pack that is immune to pain?" I asked, and he nodded. "Well then, let's waste no more time." We left Noah in the care of Ryder's parents and headed out.The starlight pack wasn't very easy to find. Their pack was secluded from town, and we had to travel through thick forest to get there. But Ryder was good with navigation."I wonder why they live so far away from town." I said when we got to the starlight pack house."Perhaps because they don't really wish to be found." Ryder speculated and dusted off debris from my shirt. We had just been ushered into the house by the Pack's Beta, when the doorbell rang. The alpha had other visitors as well, it seemed."I don't believe it." Ryder gasped and swore, but I was a bit confused myself."What's wrong?" I asked him, but I soon perceived them before I even saw them. Jasper an

RYDER's pov"We can't do this alone, that's for sure." I said quietly and reached for Amelia's hand."Neither is your adversary." Delilah chimed in and we turned to look at her. Her eyes had gone from having a faraway look to white clear orbs, "Even now, Jasper is rallying multiple factions, amassing greater power than either one of you could with stand by yourselves.""Then we won't fight by ourselves." I said firmly, tightening my grip on Amelia's hand, "We will fight together and we're going to seek help as well."After our meeting, we thanked Delilah for her foresight and left."Where do we begin?" Amelia asked as we walked back to the room."I'm going to gather as many troops as I can. But don't worry so much, Baby. I'm going to protect you. My family is your family now, Amelia. And I won't let anyone hurt our family."She nodded slowly, although she still seemed a bit worried. That night, while Amelia and Noah slept, and stayed awake conversing with my parents and asking for the
