Prologue

"You're young, you'll love again." although Ethan knew his sister had nothing but good intentions, Emma's words still stung him all the way to his core. He needed comfort from his twin, he was now coming to the realization that this was a journey of grief that he would be traveling alone. With that realization came a feeling of despair it would have been impossible for him to imagine just three days ago. 

Pushing past his pain and anguish he squeezed his sister's hand. He looked her squarely in the eye and said, "I love you bug, I'm just so tired. Can I call you later?" Emma gave him a skeptical look "Are you sure? I can stay with you as long as you need." With just the slightest, almost unnoticeable quiver he replied, "I really need some rest. Honestly bug, I'll call soon."

With some reluctance, Emma started to gather her things. "I can be here in less than fifteen minutes, you're not alone." And then with the smallest voice he heard, "I loved her too." He looked at the tears that were sure to spill any second from his loving sister. Instead, she steeled herself "Okay, I'm going but if I don't hear from you before dinner I'll be back and good luck getting rid of me." The smile she flashed would have been infectious if it wasn’t for the fact Ethan knew his world was shattered and there was nothing that would ever mend it. He simply guided her to the door and reassured her, "I'll call you soon."

Emma looked back twice to see what seemed like a shadow of the man she loved her entire life watching her from the door. The man with more strength than any other she had ever known. The best three words anyone could ever use to describe Ethan would be strong, loyal and leader. In other words, he was everything any pack would need in an Alpha.
