Chapter 4

Author: Little Saber
The next day, Lucas brought Nara home. He even gave a justification for his actions.

"Elena, Nara's quite pitiful. She's been living alone in the lakeside villa, and I'm just afraid someone might harass her. Go ahead and make the arrangements. She'll be staying here for the time being."

After speaking, he patted my shoulder and turned to leave.

The corners of Nara's lips lifted uncontrollably. She smiled as she gently touched the wolf fang necklace around her neck.

"Elena, sweetheart, I'm so sorry. I asked Lucas to go home last night, but he insisted on taking care of me. Oh, gosh. I guess such clingy behavior must've made you worry. I've already talked to him. He'll try to show you more respect from now on, or those reporters won't stop laughing at you.

"Honestly, I should thank you for taking care of him all these years…"

She was waiting for me to explode in rage. Unfortunately for her, I simply gave a faint smile, not at all bothered by Lucas' behavior.

"It's fine. Lucas and I are husband and wife. His decision is mine too. I trust he knows what he's doing. But I do worry about you. So many people are calling you the mistress. Our noble Ms. Nara Boris, I hope you won't start coughing up blood from anger.

"As for that wolf fang necklace on your neck? It's completely worthless. How could it compare to a multi-million-dollar diamond ring?"

Her hand froze on the necklace. Frowning, she asked, "What did you say?"

"I said, only someone poor would be satisfied with a wolf fang necklace. I'm Lucas' legal wife. Half of everything he owns belongs to me."

"That's impossible!" Nara's face twisted with rage. She swung her hand at me, aiming for my face.

Nonetheless, I was not about to indulge her and swiftly sidestepped. She lost her balance and fell to the floor instead.

In an instant, she pulled a silver dagger from her clothes and lunged at me. I dodged in haste, but her blade still grazed my arm, leaving a shallow cut.

I quickly grabbed the knife from her. I was about to throw it away when Lucas returned for some reason and caught me from behind.

His voice was cold as he questioned, "Elena, how dare you hurt her?"

I laughed in disbelief, turning around to face him. "If I hadn't grabbed the knife in time, it would've been buried in my throat."

Lucas glanced at the blood on the blade, stunned for a moment.

"Nara, why did you stab Elena?"

Nara immediately threw herself into his arms, crying miserably. "Lucas, I didn't mean to. Elena called me a mistress… And she hit me… She said I wasn't worthy of you. I love you so much, and I blacked out when I heard her say that. I didn't even know what I was doing…"

The moment Lucas heard her, his heart softened. He pulled her into his arms with a look of indulgence.

"Alright, alright. As long as I'm here, no one is allowed to bully you. Be more careful next time. That silver dagger is dangerous. You could hurt yourself by accident."

I pressed a hand to the wound on my arm, feeling too drained to argue.

Once, someone had treated me like a treasure. He would never let me suffer even the slightest injustice. However, that person was already gone.

Just then, Leah arrived. She immediately called for the maids to bring a first aid kit.

"Lucas, this is outrageous. Elena is your wife! She has always been sensible and ambitious since she was a child. Only she is fit to become the future Luna. Have you forgotten? You once said you'd cherish her and grow old with her. If you hurt her now, don't regret it later!"

Leah had never married as she had devoted her life entirely to the family. Lucas had always respected her for that.

Yet now, he simply gave a cold chuckle.

"I really did start to accept Elena in the past few months. I even tried to love her. But now that Nara is back, what could possibly be more important than her?"

Leah grew so angry that her voice rose. "You treat marriage like a game. What do you expect Elena to do now?"

Lucas raised an indifferent eyebrow. "This is a small matter. I'll handle it."

Leah blurted out, "Do you even know that Elena's—"

I reached out and grabbed her arm, stopping her before she could say more. Lucas' face twisted into mockery.

"What about Elena? Ha, don't tell me she has some terminal illness and you expect me to treat her kindly because of that?"

I smiled. "No. I don't need your concern."

Lucas no longer looked at me. He left while taking Nara with him.

He did not even notice that the wound on my hand had begun to rot rapidly, blood still dripping steadily to the floor.

The injury from the silver dagger, coupled with the wolfsbane already in my system, made the bleeding uncontrollable. It was like a broken dam as blood gushed out of the wound.

Leah turned around just then and was stunned by the large pool of blood on the floor.

"Elena, are you alright?"

Just before I passed out, I gave her a faint smile. "I'm fine… Just a little cold…"

I thought to myself, 'Lucas, I only have one month left to live, and I only have one wish before I die. But I suppose… There's no need for you to know about it.'

The wedding day finally arrived. I sat in front of the live stream, waiting. On screen, Lucas wore a white tuxedo, looking like a prince out of a fairy tale as he extended his hand toward Nara.Hand in hand, they walked down an aisle blanketed in red roses, with petals falling from the sky. They exchanged rings and whispered their vows. The romance was so suffocating it felt unreal. That was when it happened. The massive screen behind them suddenly began to play a video. It showed a secret chamber. Lucas, younger than he was now, was speaking with a nobleman from the Sirius Wolf Pack. I had thoughtfully added subtitles, just in case the guests could not hear clearly.Lucas and the nobleman were striking a deal. They were exchanging resources to help each other seize the Alpha title of their respective packs. Then, Derrick barged into the chamber. I had never seen him that furious before. He pointed straight at Lucas' face, shouting in rage, "Lucas! What you're doing will make

My voice brimmed with pride like that of a true victor. "Nara, even though Lucas chose you, he promised to give me the diamond ring from the safe. What can I say? He's too sentimental. Even after divorcing, he still insists on giving me the best. Honestly, I suspect he never loved you at all. Maybe he just… pities you."Nara was instantly provoked, and she gritted her teeth in fury. "Elena, when it comes to dealing with men, you'll never beat me. Just wait. That diamond ring will be mine and mine alone!"In her mind, love was measured in material things. That was why she had been pushing Lucas to buy her all kinds of extravagant jewelry. Hence, the ownership of that diamond ring was undoubtedly the ultimate symbol of triumph in her eyes.My body was frail, but my spirit was unusually energized. The hunt was about to begin.I had installed several hidden cameras throughout the house, all accessible from my phone.Through the app, I watched as Nara clung to Lucas, pouting and cooing

Lucas tried to pull his hand away, but I held him in place, refusing to let him move.Nara pressed her lips together in silence while I gave a soft smile."Lucas, when we were kids, Nara always wanted to play with you. You must've known she was bullying me all along, right? If you don't want a divorce, fine. Then do something for me. Kick her out of our house and take back everything you gave her."Why did so many people resent Nara and mock her when she returned to the Silvertail Pack?It was because she had always looked down on others, trampling over them without a second thought. If she left Lucas and lost his protection now, she would fall into hardship again.Nara panicked, and she started shaking her head furiously."No! Please, no! Lucas, I can't live without you. I'll die, I really will! I was young and foolish back then. I'm sorry. Elena, I'm truly sorry."She dropped to her knees in front of my hospital bed without hesitation. Tears poured from her eyes, making her lo

I stayed in the hospital for a week. Leah told me that Lucas had been searching for me everywhere, nearly going mad.At last, he found me lying in the hospital bed. His eyes were bloodshot, but it was hard to tell whether it was from anger or sorrow. His voice was rough and hoarse as he asked, "Late-stage cancer? Why didn't you tell me? Hah, Elena Whitlock, were you planning to die without telling me?"I smiled. "Of course not. I still need to divorce you."I then handed him the mate bond termination form I had long prepared. He froze in silence for a moment, then let out a cold laugh as if I had betrayed him in the worst possible way."You were gone for a whole week, and I searched for you like a madman. While I looked for you, I was also afraid you'd come back and feel sad again, so I cared for that tree every day. And now, you're telling me… you want a divorce?"He reached out, gripped my waist, and leaned down until our noses nearly touched. "Elena, do you even have a heart? H

My consciousness drifted back to the summer when I was 17 years old.I had grown into a young woman then. Even in coarse, plain clothing, I still drew the attention of countless boys.Nara's malice had never lessened. In fact, it had gotten worse with age.Petty tricks like throwing dead rats at me, placing blades on my stool, and cutting my hair no longer satisfied her.One day, she brought a group of her upper-class friends and blocked me on my way home from school. A pimply boy tore at my clothes, exposing my bare skin. He smacked his lips and blew his foul breath in my face."What a gorgeous little thing… You look so fucking tempting. So, who's going first?"Several filthy hands reached toward me. I broke free and swung my schoolbag at them, but they grew angry and swarmed me again, pinning me to the ground. Meanwhile, Nara and a few girls stood nearby, watching this happen like it was a show."Hey, seriously? You can't even handle a bumpkin like her? You're pathetic."The
