Mom and I had just finished from the nail salon after getting our hair done. We walked around the mall looking for an outfit to wear for the upcoming family dinner we had this weekend When mom had informed me of her engagement a few days ago, I was beyond shocked. She had barely known the man for a year and now they were engaged “What if he’s not the right one for you mom? Don’t you think it’s all too quick?” I expressed my concerns when she informed me of the engagement “The heart knows the right person when you meet him” that was her reply And those words have been stuck in my head ever since, if my mom believes he is the right one for her, then I won’t come between her happiness. This was the first time I was going to meet my mom’s fiancé. I was so eager to finally meet the man behind my mom’s smile. “Do you think this looks good on me?” My mom asked holding out a dress “Everything looks good on you, you have already bought so many dresses” I said “I know, what if I need a backup dress? What if- “Mom it’s not a wedding, it’s just an engagement dinner calm down, no what ifs” “Fine, then let’s get a dress for you then” “I already bought a few things I might like” I said holding out the five shopping bags we had bought from different stores in the mall “Alright then let’s get going, we’ve gotten everything we need” Mom said tucking her hair behind her ears ******* Few days had passed, and the weekend had arrived. Mom was in her room getting ready, she had been nervous the entire day. I put on a knee length red satin dress and silver heels, touching up my makeup a little bit before leaving the room. “You ready mom?” I asked knocking on her door before she opened it and walked out “I think I am,” She said and sighed with a worried look on her face. “don’t worry mom, tonight will go smoothly I promise” I smiled reassuring her “You look beautiful” I said, taking in her appearance, her short brunette hair, yellow dress which looked stunning on her. “And you’re more than a sight to behold” She replied and I smiled. We got to the building and my jaw dropped. “Mom, who exactly are these people?” I asked as we drove the car into the huge compound and the huge white mansion was just in front of us. The white mansion exuded grandeur and elegance, with its gleaming facade, towering columns and large arched windows. Set against perfectly manicured lawns, striking contrast of the lush green and pristine white showcased its opulence. Mom parked the car at the garage right next to the building and we got escorted to the entrance by a man dressed in a suit. The door opened to reveal a handsome man smiling at us, he had shiny black hair and was dressed in black pants and a beige Ralph Lauren shirt tucked in. My mom rushed to hug him and he pecked her lips “Honey, meet my daughter, Brielle. Brielle this is my fiance, Davis” My mom said The name struck a chord in me and suddenly I remembered where I had seen his face, it was among the Forbes 30, a list of the 30 billionaires in America. I knew his face looked familiar from the moment I saw him, of course the one man my mom met and got engaged to turned out to be a billionaire “Wait you're Davis Caldwell?” I asked “Yes and it's a pleasure to meet you” he said holding out his hands for a handshake “The pleasure is all mine, my mom won’t stop talking about you” I said shaking his hand “Likewise, she's always anticipating the day when we would all meet” Davis said smiling and looking at my mom adoringly “I've always wanted you two to meet but on a special occasion, and now what better occasion than when we're about to become family?” my mom said blushing “Come on, let's go to the dining table and have dinner,” Davis said, holding my mom’s hand and taking us inside. As we stepped inside, we were greeted by a soaring foyer illuminated by a dazzling chandelier made of crystal and gold, casting a warm glow over the polished marble floors. Rich deep hues adorned the walls, accented with gold leaf detailing that caught the light beautifully. In the main living area, oversized plush sofas upholstered in luxurious fabrics surrounded by ornate coffee tables and rich wooden cabinetry. Gilded mirrors and exquisite artwork hung elegantly, reflecting the ambient light and adding to the grandeur of the space. The dining room was a striking statement of extravagance, featuring a long mahogany table set for ten, complete with crystal glassware and golden flatware. A stunning chandelier hung above, illuminating the intricate plasterware on the ceiling, with different exquisite dishes plastered on the table. We all sat around the table, Davis sat at the head of the table while my mom sat next to him at his right hand side, I sat a couple of seats away from my mom. “Where is your son? I can't wait to meet him” Mom said His son? my mom never informed me that he had a son. “He's supposed to be here, but of course, he's late as usual” Davis said and rolled his eyes The next minute, I found out who they were talking about. My high school nightmare, my ex bully. My soon to be step brother walked into the dining room. I should have known, I knew his family were rich in high school but I had no idea he was the son of the freaking billionaire Caldwell. It's him, he came into my life again. After everything I did to get him out of my head, the trauma he caused me for years even after graduating high school. “Hello Lizzy, it's nice to finally meet you” he said as he got to the table before his eyes met mine. I could see the expression of shock he had in his eyes, his eyes lingered on me for a second before he proceeded to sit directly opposite to me. “Lizzy and Brielle, meet my son, Mateo Caldwell”BRIELLE POVI got up and walked to Mateos office. I knocked on his door and opened the door. His office was empty, I guess he hasn’t resumed work for the day.I was just about to sit on the couch when the door opened and he walked in“Hey, good morning” I said“What are you doing here?” He asked walking to his seatSuch an asshole.“You could have at least responded to my greetings” I said rolling my eyes at him“How about we proceed to why you’re here?” He asked“Well I brought evidence that something fishy happened with my project” I dropped my laptop on his table and showed him the video of the cctv footage “And what does this prove?” he asked nonchalantly, barely watching the footage“How about you look closer and pay attention to the time frames?” I askedHe looked angry and was sounding impatient, it was getting on my last nerves. All I wanted to do was clear my name. His eyes widened when he saw the time frame cut.“You’re right, someone messed with the cctv footage” he said“
BRIELLE POVI got home two hours ago and I haven’t been able to move one inch from my bed.The actions that took place today kept replaying in my head, how did that happen all of a sudden? Or was it a genuine technical error? A video can't just be deleted from my laptop due to an issue.Did someone really do it and How do I find out who did this?Could it really be Olivia? She wouldn’t stope so low, would she?I don't want to accuse her without evidence, it could be any other personI remember the disappointed and angry look in Mateo’s eyes and the shiver I felt in my body.I had never seen him so upset, and I want to fix this.I thought things were getting normal between us, I haven't even been upset with him like I was before. But yet it took just one little mistake and everything go spiraling down He couldn’t even look at me, couldn’t he have at least given me the benefit of the doubt? That just shows how he doesnt trust me at allHe knows I’ll never do something as terrible as t
BRIELLE POVThe cup fell on the floor and broke into pieces, everyone in the kitchen and nearby heard the noise and turned to me.I looked up and saw it was Olivia who had bumped into me.I was beginning to wonder where she was, I hadn’t seen her in a week.“Oh my goodness, I am so sorry” she said as she attempted to pick up the big pieces of glass from the ground. She signals the office cleaner who comes to clean up the mess“I’m sorry for bumping into you, I didn’t see you there” Olivia said, I could see a hidden smirk behind her apology.Right, as if I didn’t have enough drama going on in my life already.“As long as it was a mistake, it doesn’t matter” I said, I was sure it certainly wasn't a mistake.“What if it wasn’t?” She asked, smirking “I expected nothing less of you” I smiled. She grits her teethI planned to make another cup of coffee but decided against it. I was about to walk past Olivia to my office when she stopped me.“So you think you’re all that huh?” She asked, rh
BRIELLE POVI rose from the water and saw Mateo standing there staring at me“What the fuck? You scared me” I screamed“Do I look scary?” He asked standing there in a black shirt and casual shorts“Why were you sneaking around the house, I thought it was a robber” I said“And you kept swimming?” he asked, raising his eyebrow.“Yeah do you expect me to take a gun and go run after the robber?” I asked, deadpan.I heard him chuckle. I then realized this was the first time we were having a conversation without actually saying mean words to each other.“What are you even doing here? I was promised your absence in this house” I crossed my hands on my chest“Lizzy called me to come make sure the special guest of honor was comfortable in the house and I can see you've already gotten suited in” he said sarcasticallyMy mother was such a snitch sometimes.“Well now you've done your check in, you can leave” I said as I was about to go back to my swimming.I suddenly became aware of the way he wa
BRIELLE POVThe next morning, after I finished checking my bags to see if I had everything packed.I got dressed and put on a comfy outfit: grey flared joggers and a white short sleeve crop top, packing my hair in a slick ponytail.I opened my laptop as I was eating breakfast and checked my emails and I saw some big news.A huge beauty brand emailed me that they were interested in working with me. I replied to their email and they responded that they were willing to pay any rates and would send me products every month.I guess posting quality videos does have an advantage, I was about to start making money just from posting faceless aesthetic videos on social media.Ryan would be so happy for me as she was my number one fan and the only person who knew about my secret accounts. After eating breakfast and making sure the house was in order I took my bags and drove to Davis mansion. On arriving at the house, the butler informed me that they had left for their honeymoon very early in th
BRIELLE POVHearing Mom ask me to go dance with Mateo was beyond unexpected.I declined but no one could ever win an argument against my mom.His hands on my waist, warm and steady and I feel a subtle pull as he draws me closer. The music swirls around us, but all I can hear is the fast thrum of my heartbeat. His touch is light but grounding, sending a quiet shiver through me as I let my arms slide up to rest on his shoulders. We start to move together, our steps falling into a natural rhythm, and I can feel the tension and ease in the way his body leans into mine.I have to remind myself not to stiffen, not to pull away. I hate that he’s always so confident, always so sure of himself, like the world bends to his will. And yet here I am, letting him guide me, swaying to the rhythm of the music like I don’t have a choice. His breath grazes my ear as he speaks softly-words I barely caught on, and I ignore the way my heart trips over itself. I glance up at him, catching the way his eyes
LIZZY POVMy husband and I were called out to do the first couples dance. I still find it hard to believe that today was my wedding day and I was getting married to the love of my life.He was finally my husband, I was beyond proud to call him mine.He held my waist while I put my arm around his shoulders as we danced, staring at each other's eyes, lost in our own world.“You look so beautiful” he said“You've told me a thousand times, husband” I teased“I certainly love the sound of that” he smiledHe looked so handsome, his shiny black hair, pearly white teeths and a stunning jawline with his ocean blue eyes. It's hard to believe he was a man in his 50s“I'll keep saying it for the rest of my life” he twirled me as we danced and caught me in his arms.“Forever with you by my side sounds like heaven” he said“When did you get so poetic” I laughed“Ever since i saw you and fell in love with you i think” he replied“Mmm nice you're also cheesy I see” I smiledWe danced for a couple mor
MATEO POVI went to the house earlier to check on the bride and bridesmaids as instructed when the butler informed me that they had already left. I was about to turn around and leave when I heard a loud curse word.. I went to go check and did not expect to see her.I stood at the door staring at her as she was focused on whatever she was doing on her phone, she didn't notice my presence.I stood silent and watched her, looking at her dress and the way the fabric clings to her in all the right ways, flowing like it was made just for her. The color, rich and vivid, makes her skin glow and her eyes brighter. Her hair, softly framing her face, catches the light and I notice the smallest details- the light blonde highlights in her hair that goes with the gold fabric of her dress, the curve of her neck, the way her hands rest against her side, the faint rise and fall of her breath.I should say something. Anything. But the words won't come. Instead I stay where I am, watching her in the qui
BRIELLE POV “Need any help?” I turned around and saw him. He stood tall, his presence commanding without effort, the sharp blue suit perfectly tailored to his frame. The fabric hugged his broad shoulders and defined biceps. His jet black hair was impeccably styled, the glossy strands catching the light as if sculpted to perfection. He looked like someone who turned heads without trying, even if he had ragged clothes on. I was starting to wonder if all his suits were tailored just for him because they always fit him so well. “How are you here?” I asked, looking up to him. Why was he always present at my worst moments? I watched as his eyes swept over my entire outfit, from my face down to my legs. A faint smirk flickered across his lips, there for only a fleeting second before it disappeared. “You look…” “Save the insults, i really don't care and already have much concerning matters at hand” He stayed silent, somehow I wished I kept quiet and listened to what he
