LOGINNicole's POV"You ain't saying anything." Brad called my attention. "I asked if the detective has gotten back to you with regards to the findings on Bianca."His voice pulled me back from wherever my mind had wandered off to. I looked at him, at the way he was watching me with those eyes that looked like they missed nothing even with the amnesia.I hesitated a little before saying. "Nope, he has not. He is still on it, Brad." I said but I could bet that my demeanor said the stark opposite. The lie felt heavy and wrong on my tongue, like it didn't belong there. Because I know for a fact that Brad deserved the truth. He deserved to know what was happening in his own life, even if that truth was still complicated for now."Why are you lying to me?" Brad asked me.My heart skipped a beat immediately. How did he know? How could he tell? Or did he sense anything?"How exactly?" I asked him."You just said that the detective hasn't gotten back to you but your facial expression said the oppos
Nicole's POVJust as I got to the entrance of Brad's hospital room, I tried to open the door right away.Guess what? Yeah, you guessed right. Bianca was at the other side of the door as she tried to exit the room. And you know the funniest part of it all. She was standing right there with Leo. The same boy that she wants to push the narrative that Brad fathered him after she faked a DNA result, just like Detective Joe had disclosed. My stomach did a weird flip. Seeing them together like that and seeing Leo's little hand in hers, it made everything Detective Joe had told me feel suddenly real. Like, it was all too real. But I couldn't let it show. I couldn't let Bianca see even the slightest shift of what I knew."Hello, Bianca." I greeted her casually the moment I got in.She looked at me like I was dirt on her shoe. Her eyes narrowed and her lips pressed into a thin line. Then she just turned her head away. She actually snubbed me big time but it didn't mean anything to me. This wasn
Bianca's POVI held Leo's hand as we walked down the hospital corridor toward Brad's room. My heels clicked against the floor, echoing in the quiet hallway. Leo's small hand felt warm in mine, and I could feel him keeping pace beside me without any fuss.He was ready and I was ready too. So, I strongly believe that this was going to work this time.It was left with no choice, if not to work with and it had to work.We stopped right outside Brad's door. I took a breath, smoothed down my dress and looked down at Leo. He looked up at me with those attractive eyes, looking all calm and focused and not a trace of nervousness. Just pure professionalism wrapped up in a four-year-old body."Ready?" I whispered. He nodded once.I pushed the door open and stepped inside, pulling Leo gently with me.Brad was sitting up in bed, his back against the pillows. He looked better than the last time I'd seen him. Less pale but more alert. His eyes moved to us the moment we entered."Hi, Brad." I said, p
Nicole's POV"Hello!" I responded the moment my phone rang and I noticed that the caller was the undercover detective, Mr. Joe, as he preferred to be addressed. His voice came through, steady but urgent. "I think I have gotten some useful information and although we are still working on many things already, I will need to come over to enlighten you on the latest so far. But I need to see you because there is crucial information you need to get to know before things get out of hand. We are trying to get the remaining documents that would make our claims more legal before we think of arrest or any other thing but then, I think you have a part to play as well."My heart skipped. A part to play? What did that even mean?"It's fine, detective. I heard all you said, we can see in our house, right?""Sure, any place where I will not be seen publicly and so I think your house is a great idea, then.""Alright, when can you come over?""In about thirty minutes. Is that okay?""Yes, that works."
Bianca's POV"Welcome back to our home." I said to Leo the moment I unlocked the house as we just got back.I pushed the door open and stepped aside to let him walk in first. His small luggage rolled behind him, the wheels squeaking slightly against the floor. He looked around, his eyes scanning the living room like he was trying to remember if everything was the same as before. It probably was. Nothing much had changed since he left. Except maybe me. I'd gotten more desperate. More willing to do whatever it took to get what I needed. We headed right to the sitting room, "please make yourself comfortable in the dining room." I said to him and so I served him the food we got from a restaurant on our way back.I'd picked up something quick on the drive home. Although nothing fancy, just enough to keep him fed and comfortable. A happy kid was a cooperative kid, and I needed Leo in the best mood possible for what was coming. He sat down at the table, his legs barely reaching the floor. I
Bianca's POV"Do you know him?" I asked Madam Jane the one question that was on my mind the moment I had finally felt that something might be off.My eyes stayed on the man for another second before I turned back to her. Waiting and watching her face for any sign that she knew more than she was letting on."I really don't know anyway. But he was here just a few minutes before you got here." She explained and continued. "Maybe, he came to have some kind of business. You know people that come here are some set of ‘crook’ personalities. This is not an exposed place and the kind of people that visit here do that because they got to know this place, should actually tell you that the kind of things they engage themselves in is not far fetched from what we all engage ourselves in too. So, there is no cause for alarm."Her tone was casual. Just too casual maybe. But she had a point as I know that this wasn't the kind of place regular people stumbled onto by accident. Everyone who came here ha
