Chapter 70

Claire POV

I meant every word I said to Jason. I wasn’t going to sit down and do nothing if he tried to play funny around me. I wouldn’t go down alone. I’d make sure to bring him down with me. Nothing—not even Jason himself—could separate us.

“Baby, I got some gifts for you,” Jason said, stepping out of the closet with a big designer gift bag in his hand. He had left the room minutes ago, saying he wanted to check on some of his stuff.

I didn’t flinch and kept my expression cool, but my heart fluttered with joy.

“You think gifts fix everything?” I turned away from him, walked to the bed, and sat on the edge with a dramatic sigh, faking a frown.

Jason chuckled softly and moved toward me.

“Claire, my love…” He knelt on one knee, placing the gift beside me with careful hands. “I know you’re still mad, but I promise—something like this will never happen again.”

This was exactly what I wanted—for Jason to long for me, to chase me.
