Chapter 93

Andrea’s POV

The past few days had been all about the wedding to-do lists and half-hearted planning. It wasn’t anything big—nothing fancy or extravagant. Just enough to keep up appearances. Cake tasting, picking color palettes, and finding a venue that wouldn’t give me a headache. My mom was more into it than I was. She’d pulled out her old wedding scrapbook and kept calling me at odd hours, pitching ideas I could barely pretend to care about.

I played along, though. Smiled when I had to, and nodded when I didn’t want to. If it was left to Jake and me, we would’ve just gone to the registry and gotten married. But it wasn’t just about us.

At least today, I could take a break from the whole wedding façade.

Today, I was going back to work.

The car ride was quiet. I had my window halfway down, letting the breeze hit my face as the city passed by in a blur. I wasn’t dressed like a bride-to-be—just a woman trying to feel like herself again. Sleek trousers, a button-up shirt

Chapter 109Andrea's pov My hand was tucked in my father’s arm as he walked me down the aisle, his face beaming with pride. This was really happening.I was getting married… to Jake.I didn’t think I’d be nervous. Especially with way I was running my mouth the other day in Jake’s apartment, anyone would think I had everything under control. Like I was sure and had no second thoughts. But now, walking down the aisle, the weight of it all settled in.This was real. It wasn’t just some plan anymore, it was now a reality. The hall wasn’t anything grand. Just my parents, Paul, Annabel, and a few close relatives. Jake had no one. He’d already told my parents his parents were both dead. The only family he had left was Jason, his stepsister, and stepmother, And we all knew none of them were welcomed to come.Jake didn’t count them as family anyway. As we got closer, I looked up at him.He looked… perfect.Clean-cut suit, sharp jawline, that same calm expression he always wore. But his smil

Chapter 108Jake’s pov Andrea was right.Giving up wasn’t the best option, hell, it never was. But that hadn’t crossed my mind over the past few days. I’d locked myself away in this place, drowning in regret, pacing the floor like it held answers, blaming myself for not moving fast enough. But what truly ate me alive deep down, past the failed plans and lost inheritance, was that I hadn’t seen her.Not since that day at the hospital.I’d walked out, convinced it was the right thing. Leave her be. Let her heal without me. I told myself she didn’t need me told myself she’d be better off. That I’d only remind her of what we lost. But that wasn’t what broke me.I missed her.I missed the sound of her voice. Wondering if she was getting better. If she could sleep through the night, or if Claire’s betrayal kept her up. I wondered if she hated me for disappearing. And still, I couldn’t bring myself to go to her.I thought removing myself was some twisted act of kindness. But maybe that w

Chapter 107“Why are you here, Andrea?” Jake said. The look of surprise had already faded from his face. Now, he just looked blank, expressionless.“You’re answering my question with a question,” I said sharply. “I asked you something. What happened to you?” He stepped aside and let me in without a word. His silence said more than anything else could. The house felt colder than I remembered, dim, unbothered, like no one had opened the curtains in days. I walked in slowly, glancing around. The air felt heavy. There was a plate on the coffee table, half-eaten, untouched for hours from the looks of it. The couch had a throw blanket bunched up at one end. I could tell he’d been sleeping there. He looked like hell. My heart cracked seeing him this way, but I wasn’t here to feel that way. I shoved the sympathy down and braced myself. I turned to him as he shut the door. “So, are you going to tell me what the hell is going on, or should I start guessing?” Jake rubbed the back of his ne

  • Ex-Husband’s Nemesis   Missing piece

Chapter 106 Andrea’s POV I got discharged the day after I saw the news about Claire and Jason’s wedding. My parents were bent on me staying longer. They even told the doctor and nurses to convince me to stay another week, but I had already made up my mind. There was no way I was going to lie in that hospital bed for another second, feeling the sting of betrayal crawling under my skin. I needed to be out of there. I needed to breathe. In the end, my parents saw it too, they knew I had made up my mind. So they gave in. And today makes it one week since I came home. My injuries are almost fully healed. For the past week, I’ve been thinking. Trying to come to terms with everything. Trying to accept the truth that Claire never really cared for me. I should’ve known. I should’ve suspected something when that wire incident happened at the restaurant with Jason. But I didn’t. I was too blinded by the love I felt for her, too loyal. Too trusting. What a fool I was. Claire was never

Chapter 104Jake’s POVAndrea didn’t deserve any of this, I thought as I stood outside her hospital door. Her voice was still echoing in my head, sharp, angry, wounded. And I got it. I really did. She had every right to be pissed. I should’ve told her about Jason and Claire. I should’ve told her the minute I found out. But I didn’t. I waited, thinking it was the best thing to do… thinking I was protecting her.I honestly was going to tell her when she was better. I knew her knowing would be a big blow for her, I was just waiting for her to be better, foolish me thinking that was the right thing to do But now?Now everything’s gone to shit. And to crown it all…Jason got married before me.Damn it.I let out a bitter breath and leaned against the cold wall. Married. That word kept bouncing around my skull like a damn hammer. Jason did it. He married Claire. That smug son of a bitch pulled it off. He beat me to it. And just like that, everything I’d been working toward for years of

Chapter 104“This can’t be real…” I turned to Jason, confusion written all over my face.My eyes flicked back to the TV to be sure I wasn’t dreaming.“My eyes are not deceiving me, right? Jake, you can see this too?”Jake stood frozen for a second before stepping forward.“Andrea, you don’t have to watch this,” he said, reaching for the remote.“No. Leave it,” I snapped.I couldn’t breathe. My chest felt tight. How is this possible? This was the biggest shock of my life. Claire? No. No way. Something was wrong. Somewhere.“Are you sure Jason doesn’t have something against her? Maybe he forced her to marry him just to spite me?” I asked, my voice shaky.Jake sighed heavily. “No, Andrea. Claire’s doing it of her own free will.”“That’s a big lie!” I screamed.“You don’t know Claire like I do. I’ve been friends with her for more than fifteen years. She would never betray me. Never side with Jason.”“It can’t be. It can’t be,” I muttered, shaking my head as tears welled in my eyes.My ang

  • Ex-Husband’s Nemesis   A sudden blow

Chapter 103 It had been three days since I woke up in the hospital. Three days of trying to focus on the sunlight coming through the window instead of the shadows still living in my head. Three days of seeing my parents’ tearful faces, feeling the weight of their worry every time they looked at me. And three days of Jake not leaving my side, not even once. This morning, he was on the couch, curled up awkwardly with one arm over his face. He looked uncomfortable but peaceful, like he hadn’t had real sleep in days. A tray of untouched food sat on the table beside him. He hadn’t eaten much since I got here. “Jake,” I called softly, my voice still scratchy. He shifted, pulling his arm away from his eyes, blinking at me like he wasn’t sure if I was really awake. “You can go home,” I said. “You’ve tried already. My mum can stay with me. You should freshen up and sleep properly.” Jake sat up slowly, rubbing his face. “I’m not complaining.” “I know,” I said. “That’s why I’m telling y

  • Ex-Husband’s Nemesis   Finally safe

Chapter 102Poom…Poom…Poom…That was the first thing I heard.Soft. Steady. Like a heartbeat, but outside my body.I didn’t know where I was. My eyes were still closed. Everything felt heavy. My arms, my chest, even my thoughts. But that sound kept going.Poom… poom… poom…Like it was reminding me I was still here.My fingers twitched. The air around me was cold, sterile, but safe. Different.I blinked slowly, once, then again. Light rushed in, too bright at first. My lids fluttered open, and everything looked blurry, like I was underwater. It took a few seconds, maybe more, for things to settle.White ceiling. Pale blue curtains. Machines. The beeping beside me made sense now.A soft weight tugged at my hand. I turned slowly, my head barely shifting. A clear drip was taped into the back of my hand, the IV line running up to a bag hanging beside the bed. My wrist and foot were wrapped. Cleaned. Bandaged.I was in the hospital.I was alive. My chest rose shakily. Tears pricked my eye

  • Ex-Husband’s Nemesis   The Escape

Chapter 101Andrea’s POVI knew something was off the moment I woke up.The mood was different tonight. No footsteps echoed in the hallway, no keys jangled, no harsh voices barked orders. The house was filled with the normal coldness, but it was lively.Beyond the metal door, I heard it. Music. Laughter. The clinking of glasses. Voices muffled but happy. They were celebrating. My stomach turned, not from hunger this time, but anticipation.I stayed still for a moment, my back against the cold wall, heart pounding so loud I was afraid someone might hear it. My wrists were sore and scabbed from the ropes, but my mind was clear and sharper than it had been in days.Something’s different. They hadn’t done their usual check. No footsteps outside my door. No voices. No shadows under the crack.Maybe… maybe this was it.The metal shard I had hidden days ago pressed against my thigh beneath the blanket. My one sliver of hope. I’d been waiting for the right moment. Waiting for the smallest cra
