Chapter Forty-One

Eric marched Cat to the lifts. Pressing the up button. “Why didn’t you call me?” He demanded. Cat could feel the tension rolling off him in waves.

Cat looked at Eric. His frown, still present, was a stark contrast to the soft light of concern in his eyes. “She was my problem. She wasn’t your psycho ex PA. Eva is my past.” Cat’s answer held a defiance and vulnerability, revealing the need in her to shield others from the shadows of her past.

Hopefully, that was the last Cat would see of Eva. If Cat never saw her again, she wouldn’t care.

Seeing that she was still shaken, Eric’s stance softened, and he instinctively placed his hands on her waist. “Cat, she was about to strike you. I don’t let anyone hit my wife.” Eric moved her into the lift once it arrived.

Once the doors shut, enclosing them in on their own. She turned to face him, stepping up to him so only an inch separated their bodies. Locking her gaze onto his, her fingers curled into the lapels of his dark grey suit jacket. Ancho
