Gosh, Rodrigo was on his way here. I mean, did he know where I lived? Was he going to just show up at my house?

“It’s his birthday today.” I said, hoping he maybe went to spend it with Aaliyah or something, “Maybe he went to celebrate with… her.” I hated talking about her the same way I hated talking about him.

“Yes, it's his birthday, but you know he stopped celebrating it when you left.”

“Oh,” I wasn't interested in hearing more, “Well, does he know my address?”

“You were not hidden because of the new identity and because Rodrigo promised not to look for you, and besides, I thought he trusted me, that he would ask me to look for you instead of hiring someone.”

“You think he knows?” I asked as he sounded a little in distress.

“I honestly don't know, but he doesn't trust me. I told him you were nowhere to be found, and instead of taking my word for it, he hired someone.”

“Wow. What… What should I do now? He can't find me.”

“You did buy a law firm here, correct?”

“Yes, Chris, but this

I could see Theo’s smirk from the top. Damn, he was looking so proud. I mean, he should be — he just outsmarted me.I couldn’t watch him anymore, so I frustratedly closed the curtains and turned back to Tina, who was trying to get Mr. Puckett up.“I think he’s been drugged. He doesn’t seem to know what’s going on,” Tina said, and I eyed Mr. Puckett, who really did look out of it. I had to think fast. My phone buzzed, and I just knew it was Theo rubbing it in my face.“Where’s that damn staff? She said she was getting first aid!” Tina sounded worried. “Mr. Puckett, please stay with me,” she said, shaking him gently. That’s when I spotted the glass on the table. It still had alcohol in it, but there was enough space to hold water.Placing my things down, I walked to the table, grabbed the glass, and rushed to the room I assumed was the bathroom. It was. I walked to the sink, filled the glass, and hurried back out.“Get more!” I instructed as I handed her the glass and knelt beside Mr. P

I scanned the documents, trying to catch how many days they gave me, and exclaimed the second I saw it.“You’ve got to be kidding me. Seven days?!”“Yeah, I know. I think Mr. Roberts has some influence because—”“You’re dismissed.” I turned to the server, cutting him off. He was speaking as if I didn’t already know. It was obvious Rodrigo had pulled strings to rush the case.“Have a lovely day, Ms. Sterling,” he said, with a smirk that felt like mockery. I watched him leave, then fell back into my seat, skimming the pages again. Unbelievable.“Ms. Sterling, is everything okay?” Tina came rushing in, her eyes wide with concern.I straightened immediately, switching to my professional face. “I’m fine. Tina, is there a way for you to contact the family court for me?”“I don’t think so. It’s preferred you show your face if you want to speak to any of the judges. I could go if—”“I don’t think they’ll accept you,” I cut in, closing the document and fixing my hair. “Did you contact Mr. Puck

It took a lot of strength to stay calm. Like I always say—law classes finally paying off. If it weren’t for that, I would’ve lost it the moment Theo walked in.“Tina, please bring Mr. Hilton a glass of water and close the door on your way out. Thank you,” I said in my most professional voice.“Well, thank you,” Theo replied, taking a seat. I waited for Tina to close the door before I sat down myself.“I can't believe this. When my employee came crying about facing this big-shot attorney from Georgia, I nearly fired him—until I found out it was you.”“Then be sure to thank your employee for me.”“Well, I guess that won’t be necessary. Once I win this case, he’ll worship me.”“By win, you mean…?”“Your client came into the marriage with nothing. He was a gardener who—”“Had a job until she made him quit it,” I cut in. The few seconds I had to skim this case were enough. Another perk of being a lawyer—you have to be fast with your words.“Well, she was trying to help him.”“My client nev

Parker looked serious. I calmed myself down as she asked me to breathe in—and once I was calm enough, I finally spoke, carefully choosing my words. “You need to tell me everything.”“He looked like me, so I asked. He told me everything. We decided to get a DNA test, and we were right. He is my father. Mommy—”“He left, Parker!”“Without saying goodbye?” She stood up and attempted to walk toward the door, but I stopped her.“You're not stepping out that door, young lady. Do you know what you've just done?”“Mommy, all I did was find the truth. Honestly, I should be the one mad at you for keeping me in the dark.”“Oh, you should be mad at me?” I stood up, stunned by how ridiculous she sounded. “Honey, I did what I did to protect you.”“Oh, I see. So I was right then?”“Parker—”“No, I don't want to hear it. I’d like to be alone now.” She walked to the couch and sat down, crossing her arms over her chest and turning her back to me.“In my house?”“I don't know—would you prefer I go to my

Well, I didn’t seem to know what to do now—Rodrigo came out of one of the bedrooms in my penthouse, and Aaliyah wasn’t someone who could be convinced otherwise.“I knew it. I knew it,” she snapped.“Aaliyah, what are you doing here?” Rodrigo asked, and I just stood still, watching it all unfold.“Yes, Mom, what are you doing here?” Anthony added, walking toward them. Maggie had come over to stand by me and Carlos now. I placed my hand on Maggie’s arm to calm her.“No—you two don’t get to ask me that. What the hell are you doing here?”“I had a playdate with Parker. And where I go isn’t your business. Haven’t you been doing the same these past years?”“Yeah, Mom. We don’t ask where you go, so why did you follow us here?”“Oh, stop it, Anthony. I didn’t follow you. I followed your—yes, I did follow you. You’re my son. I care about you.” She changed her tone mid-sentence, and I turned to Carlos, who was already looking at me, clearly just as shocked by Aaliyah’s flip-flop.“Okay, that’s

Insane is not the word for this one. I surely need to speak to Paula now more than ever, but not as a lawyer. Woman to woman. I need to understand what happened with Maggie’s father.“Derek...” I cleared my throat, remembering we were still on a call.“You don’t have much time, Valeria. You have until this weekend.”“I will help you, but you know my firm can suffer for this.”“It won’t have to. Paula is stupid. How do you think I convinced her to marry me? She won’t even know she lost everything. All you have to do is make her sign a document. She doesn’t read before signing anything.”“Great. Since it’s that easy, why can’t you make her?”“You’re her attorney. She won’t question you.”“Oh.” I sighed. He was telling the truth.“All right, so we’re good. Right?”“I need a week. I need to prepare my firm in case of a scandal. Give me until the end of next week, and I’ll have her sign whatever document you want her to sign.”“Next week Wednesday. I don’t have much time to wait.”“That wo
