And she had never needed him at all, not his money, not his name.

All this time, Hayden had painted her in the same light his family did, which was a gold digger, a nobody. But now the truth was before him. She hadn’t just survived without him, she had been thriving before now.

He sat in his car outside her villa, gripping the steering wheel deep in thought. why the lies? why did she let him think she was nothing?

He remembered the look in her eyes back then, the quietness, the plea, He also remembered the coldness and his rejection.
