Chapter 4

Anna's POV

"Nurse, can you help me make a phone call?"

I've been trying to reach my husband on the nurse's phone since the day I regained consciousness.

However, he hasn't been willing to talk to me. The first time I called, he hung up as soon as he heard my voice.

I tried calling again, and this time he answered on the first ring.

"Hello Lucas, please don't hang up. I pleaded with him, "I've been in the hospital for four days now."

"How does that concern me and What do you want me to do about that?" he asked, sounding angry.

"I lost the baby, Lucas," I said sadly. I heard silence as if he was affected.

Then I heard him saying," Hahaha, that's the best news I've heard today."

What?

"At least the universe is working in my favour, don't you think?" he replied, sounding excited.

I couldn't help but cry as I asked, "How could you be so cruel to an innocent child?"

"Stop being dramatic, Anna, and just sign those divorce papers. That's all I want from you now."

"Never call me again until you're ready to hand over the signed divorce papers," he said, coldly.

Only the click sound due to hanging up left.

Feeling even more alone and disconnected, I decided to call her Lucy my maid.

"Mrs Johnson?" Lucy asked. I could hear the concern in her voice.

"Call me Anna."

Lucy had been helping me clean the house, and I've grown to trust her.

"No, Mrs Johnson, I was worried about you. Your phone was switched off, and when I called Mr Johnson to ask about you, he hung up on me. I'm glad to hear from you," Lucy said excitedly.

I felt a wave of sadness wash over me.

I knew my husband didn't care much about me but hearing Lucy's words broke my heart all over again.

"Is everything okay?" Lucy asked, her voice full of concern.

I took a deep breath, trying to steady myself. "I'm okay, Lucy," I said, forcing a smile.

"I just need a few things from home."

I explained my situation to Lucy who felt more sad and I know she was crying while trying to sound casual on the phone.

"Lucy, can you come to the hospital along with a few personal belongings for me?"

I asked, trying to keep my voice from shaking. I instructed Lucy on the things I needed and I couldn't help but feel a sense of betrayal.

I had always been loyal to my husband, even when things weren't perfect between us.

But now, I was starting to see that maybe things weren't what they seemed.

**************************

I stared blankly at the divorce papers that lay on the table beside the bed.

my heart felt heavy as I reached out to pick up the papers, my hand trembling with emotion.

As I read through the document, I felt a sharp pain in my chest, and tears started streaming down my face.

I can't believe that my marriage to Lucas had come to this.

We've been together for more than five years, and I thought we would be together forever.

But now, it seemed like everything had fallen apart.

I've lost everything, my kid my husband and my happiness, I've lost to her again.

She has succeeded in taking that one thing that gives me joy.

I looked up trying to hold back my tears but I couldn't, tears started streaming down my face.

She couldn't hold them back any longer. I cried until my eyes were red and swollen,

I cried till I had no more tears left to cry.

"Where did I go wrong?" I asked herself, my voice barely above a whisper.

With a trembling hand, I took a pen from my bag and signed the divorce papers.

It was like signing away a part of myself, a part of my life that I had hoped would last forever.

But now, it is over, and I have to find a way to move on, and start my future all over.

The thought of moving on scares me, I have nowhere to go and I don't have money.

As I sat there, lost in my thoughts, I knew to had to be strong. I have to pick her up and start over.

I don't know how but I have to do it for myself.

Feeling the need to freshen up, I decided to use the bathroom.

it took me forever to get to the bathroom, I was weak but I didn't want to call the nurses for help.

Returning to the hospital bed, I stumbled and fell to the ground.

The fall left me feeling scared and helpless, but before I could cry out for help, a pair of strong, reassuring hands lifted me from the ground.

I smelt the familiar cologne, i looked up, and my eyes met the most beautiful pair of eyes.

A tall and handsome man standing over her, his face etched with concern.

I recognized him as the same man who had been taking care of me since I woke up but I've not seen him in the past two days.

That might sound ridiculous but at that moment, I really thought he had also abandoned me.
