CHAPTER 23

For a few days, Jacob and I had a strained relationship. Finally, I had no choice but to ignore him because he usually ignored me. I returned to my room after finishing my duties, which included cooking and cleaning.

I was alone and alone in my room when I realized the time had come for me to move on. I should talk about my pay with Jacob as soon as he gets home. I couldn't wait any longer, and I needed to get away from the people who had recently caused me concern.

Pedro paid me a visit one night, but his timing was off. Jacob was inebriated and irritable. When I looked at Jacob, I couldn't understand what he was thinking, but his reactions told me he didn't like seeing Pedro's face in his house.

Keeping this in mind, I refused to let Pedro inside and instead spoke with him at the door. "What brings you here, Pedro?" I was curious.

"You stopped seeing me," he replied.

"I'm just busy," I pretended.

"I'm missing you, Bethany," he admitted.
