Elena’s POV

I stand still, watching as the door clicks shot behind him.

I don’t move, my feet just remain tied to the spot. He left me with my heart still racing and skin still buzzing from how close he came without crossing the line.

With his departure, the room feels different now. Heavier is the word.

I exhale slowly, pressing my hand to my chest.

He didn’t force me. He could have an all ground, but he didn’t.

The thought sneaking uninvited, a somewhat hopeful flicker.

I replay the moments over and over in my head. The way his hand paused mid air. The tension in his jaw as he moved in and the frustration he swallowed, one that could have been unleashed if he wanted to.

I mean, what other alpha would’ve let me be even after I rejected him? From what I know, they would’ve taken what they wanted and called it destiny without a care.

He didn’t. Lukas of all people didn’t.

I saw the softness in his eyes. Short-lived but it was there.
