Damien’s POV

I stand at the top of the mountain, my mind going over all the options I have to take to protect all the people.

If we stay put in our spot, who knows how long it will take before we are found out and ambushed. But if we move forward, who’s to say we won’t come back across those we are running from on the way.

I’m so confused and genuinely lacking the knowledge of the next step to take.

As if that isn’t enough to deal with, my mind suddenly drifted back to that girl.

Damien’s POV“Can you believe that bastard? I can’t believe he played in our faces,” I let out, still boiling from Reva’s rejection.“At least, he was nice enough to give us a chance to spend the night. What if he had sent us away?” Elena whispers.I scratch my forehead. “Honesty, I don’t think I would have even minded. At that moment, I was just so pissed.”She pulls her head off my chest, staring at me. “Don’t let it bother you too much.”“But I can’t help it, Elena. I can’t help it. You know what is at stake.”“I understand. But being worried about it like this won’t change anything. We just need to think and restrategize. Another option will definitely come.”“How certain are you? I mean, you were literally the one who was against this trip on our way here. In fact, I now wish I listened to you.“Well that was then. And don’t say things like that. This isn’t the time to give up. If we give up now, what’s going to happen to everyone? Are we just supposed to let them go find your d

Elena’s POVWe all sit in a round table, preparing to start the conversation. Reva, the head of the rogues, looks calmer than when we first arrived.Clearly, my words had done a number on him.He keeps staring at Damien as if he wants to say something but can’t push himself to do it.“Ahhh screw it,” he finally blurts out.“Uhm, is everything okay?” Damien asks gently. He stares at him again before opening his mouth. “Your girl is right. I shouldn’t have concluded about who you are nor should I have said those things.”I smile. The words sound encouraging at the very least. Perhaps, we may not have a problem getting him to join our cause.“But this is just me admitting my mistake. I know everyone sees us as uncultured and crass so it is our duty to make sure we change that narrative.”“What does that mean?” I ask, frowning my forehead. He turns to me. “It means whatever I just said is not a translation for joining you.”“Oh,”He rolled his eyes away. “Yeah. I just wanted to clear th

Damien’s POV“What can I do for you? Are you sure royalty like you should be in a dirty place like this?”The man says again, clearly trying to get on my skin. But I’m past that stage in my life where silly words get the best of me.I smile. “I’m here to discuss business.”He smirks. “Business? From how I know it, I believe you’ve lost your fighters and your brother’s army is onto you, trying to cut you down. Are you sure you’re still up for business?”My jaw tightens. Words related to travel first because how the hell did he even hear something like that?“Well, not everything you hear is true. You should know this by now.”He comes closer to me. “While that may be true, I would also like you to know that I’m not an idiot. I mean, I know you see me as one. A strong good for nothing idiot. But trust me, I’m much more than that.”I squint my eyes. “ And what makes you think that I see you like that?”He smirks. “It is written on your face. You’re only here talking to me because you hav

Damien’s POVWith Vale and Tess gone, the leadership and management of the group falls solely on Elena and me. This makes me realize how sharing duty actually makes life easier for everyone. Not that the people are difficult to manage alone but there’s a lot of factors that make you realize sharing is the most important. The meeting day with the rogues finally and Elena and I made our way over with a few guards leaving Taren in charge.“How do you think this is going to go? Do you have any hope of positivity?” Elena asks.I turn to her, looking blankly.“Honestly, I have no idea, but I hope it turns out well. We really need it, Elena. If we are going to have any chance, we need their help and compliance.”She sighs. “At least you’ve got hope. At least you’re not being pessimistic.”“What do you mean?” I ask, squinting my brows. She let out another sigh. “I’m trying to control it, Damien. I swear, I’m really trying to control it, but I can’t help but feel none of this is going to wo

Damien. I find myself at the foot of the mountain, overlooking the ocean below. My mind sub travels back to what just happened a few minutes ago. Vale, declaring his love publicly to his woman. I am beyond happy for him. In this line of life, every opportunity of happiness has to be taken because it is not every time we are fortunate to experience things like that. And to think it is my best friend of all people, it makes everything so much more interesting. I hear footsteps behind me and I don’t need to look back to know who it is. Him. “Hey, man,” he says, shoving me on the back. I turn slightly, smiling. “Hey, lover boy” I draw teasingly. He smiles. “Yeah, whatever. I know you’ve been dying to say that.” “And I know you’ve been dying for me to say that.” We both laugh. “But thank you, love is a beautiful thing. Now I know what you’ve been feeling with Elena.” As soon as it says this, I go still. My mind goes back to that short moment we shared in the hall. “I think i

Elena’s POV As we prepare for the meeting with the rogues, we still have a few hours left so we continue to use it to just catch up. Then, Vale rises to his feet, face looking serious as if he has something important to share. “Man, what’s up?” Damien asks. He smiles. “I have something important to say.” This draws everyone’s attention, including Tess. Then, his eyes turn to her. She quickly looks away and I notice the shyness on her face. I nudge her shoulder. “Girl, you’re so red. Will you calm down?” I say teasingly. She rolls her eyes jokingly. “Oh, Elena, stop teasing me.” I smile. “You know I’m not teasing you. The guy literally has his eyes on you and you’re burning red. What conclusion do you expect me to draw?” She looks at me. “Just stop. He probably just wants to talk about the meeting with the rouges.” “Yeah, right. You really expect me to believe that, don’t you?” “Well I expect you to stop thinking about it. It’s nothing,” she replies, still smiling. I drop
