LOGINAthena's POV
I was unconscious for half a day, then woke up with a throbbing headache. Raphael had nearly slapped a concussion into me because I dropped Isabella's luggage.
The imprint of his hand was still there outlining just how deeply he had hit me, the worst part was that he had not even bothered to check if it was intentional or not-it was was but still- all that mattered to him was that I had made a mistake and I had to be punished.
I looked around my surroundings, taking note of the boxes and haphazardly tossed about household items that had regarded dust and cobwebs.
There was a sad little window that was the only source of light for the room, and then a door that was the only way out.
But it was locked and I banged on the door for as long as my malnourished body could manage before sliding off the dusty surface down to the floor.
I remained there until I was nudged by a plate of food; if I could be so generous to call it that.
It was a stale piece of bread, with visible black spots and a half rotten banana, under the plate was a note. It read; “You'll remain here until you learn your lesson,”
Droplets of my tears dropped on the piece of paper, I stayed in that storage room for another hour then the next I don't know how long it was until somebody finally came and open to the door, by that time I was so starved that I had eaten the food brought to me and felt like I was going to throw up.
The maid that opened the door gave me a look of disdain.
“The alpha wants to see you immediately,” she said to me with annoyance like she couldn't even be bothered with someone like me.
I dragged myself up to my feet and followed her, ground tilting with every step I managed to take until I was in the living room.
Raphael the held a platter of sliced oranges animals feeding them to Isabella like she was a fragile baby bird.
I watched feeling the resentment grow inside of me, Raphael ignored me for a good solid 5 minutes and continued to feed Isabella.
It was Isabella seated next to him on the couch that placed a playful hand on his shoulder.
“Raphael, Athena looks like she's going to collapse anytime soon…” she said with a giggle.
He grunted.
“Don't bother with her, just focus on me, Isabella…” he cooed to her, they continued their play in front of me until he finally turned to give me a long look.
“Isabella pleaded for your sake even though you were so careless with her belongings, so you should thank her if it wasn't for her I had no intention of letting you out of that room for the next 3 days,”
A lump formed in my throat, what phase of the nightmare was this? When was I finally going to wake up?
He continued, unperturbed by the tear marks on my face.
“I invited Isabella to stay here for a while, and since she is not familiar with anyone else, I've decided to make you her personal maid so she can adjust comfortably,” He said it so flippantly, not explaining how they had established relationships who intimates that she was able to drop by to visit not me but him and stay for as long as he was willing to house her.
As if having her around was not bad enough, I would have to play the role of her personal maid.
I don't know if I was shaking because of hunger or anger, maybe it was a mix of the two.
With a bridle on my tongue, I said, “Isabella, I can recommend other maids for you that–”
“What are you saying? You aren't doing anything and all you are capable of is just lazing around all day, can't you help your sister out?” Raphael was quick to attack me, but I looked at my step sister desperately hoping that even the darkest corner of her heart could have some sort of pity for me.
She parted her lips to speak but before she could Raphael held up his hand.
“Isabella, don't pay any attention to her, she should be your personal choice whether she likes it or not,” he paused and now he was looking at me with a glare while he was still speaking to her, “remember that you are free to punish her if she does anything badly or intentionally upset you, you will face no repercussions,”
Just when I thought that the whole purpose of burying my dignity could not go any further, my own mate would pick up a shovel and prove me wrong.
As he was listing all of this out to Isabella I wondered what I had done to deserve this sort of treatment.
All I had ever done was taking care of him, if he asked me to jump I would ask him how high…and yet Isabella had found herself in the picture without even doing anything for him, without once lifting a finger for his sake.
I was completely heartbroken, but strangely relieved. It was clear what was going on between the two of them even though he had not stated it in white and black.
Soon when he was probably going to kick me out.
Suddenly the dreariness in my mind began to fade away, if he kicked me out I could finally be free. Since he didn't want me and he was not changing his mind anytime soon then it was just for the best that I left, right?
Thinking about that gave me a huge burst of energy, and I carried out my new chores as a personal task with a smile on my face.
That smile quickly disappeared when I was called to the Alpha's bedchamber that night.
Isabella’s POVMy womanly instinct smelled a rat, and all efforts to ignore it fell flat on their face.Ever since I smelled that perfume on his collar, I knew, just knew, that there was another woman. He started calling me to the bedroom, probably out of guilt, but most nights he complained about being too tired. He said he needed to rest, and I couldn’t say anything. I couldn’t even confront him about there being another woman. Now, after deciding to track him down, I found him in a sleazy motel room with that very woman. Immediately, all I could see was red, and by the time I had calmed down enough to be yanked away, there were fistfuls of hair in my hand, but not enough to completely ruin the woman’s appearance. When she backed away, I finally saw her face, and it struck me like a slap across the cheek. For a moment, I almost mistook her for that useless sister of mine. However, a closer look made me notice that her cheekbones were sharper, and her eyes didn’t have that same fooli
Raphael’s POV"I'd like to know more about you."I'd come to react to this question as if it were an atomic bomb going off in front of me. I had been spending more and more time with Sienna and less with my lover, Isabella. That was only natural, because Isabella was gradually turning into a nag with each passing day. Her presence was no longer the spark of joy it had once been. The only thing that kept her around was the lingering memory of our past together. But now, with Sienna, she was merely a temporary bandage over a wound that refused to heal.I had come to see her in the same motel. It turned out she worked at a bar not too far away from there.Having her as an occasional fling was fine. In fact, it was far better compared to Isabella’s presence. However, it didn’t seem like Sienna was as excited about this relationship as I was. She kept wanting to deepen it, to stretch what she actually meant to me, but that was completely unnecessary. What we had was good and fun.No compli
Isabella’s POVHe looked at me as if I had just demanded his kidney or something of equal value. Then he almost looked disgusted by my suggestion, like he was about to throw up. When he finally pulled himself together, he told me that in no way, shape, or form was I going to be following him to his meetings."But, but... and this is only a hypothetical," I said carefully, "if you are not able to find my sister and somebody else needs to step in and fill her shoes, don’t you think that I should be prepared for that worst-case scenario?"I saw his eyes darken until they were almost completely black, and in that moment something chilling ran through my bones. I could barely move, barely even breathe. But thankfully, it passed over like a short, heavy storm cloud, and by the time it was gone, I could breathe again. He calmed down, sank into his pillow, and said quietly,"I’m going to find her. No matter how long it takes or how much effort I have to put in, I am going to find her. Without
Isabella’s POVThere he goes again, smiling from ear to ear. Morning had come, and he had returned from yet another one of his trips meant to find that useless sister of mine. But as always, there was no success. However, instead of coming back with that devastated look on his face, as if the whole world had been crushed on his shoulders, he was smiling from ear to ear. He actually looked quite pleased with himself. So much that when I came to welcome him at the front door, I was worried that he had actually found Athena. I kept looking at his car, searching for a sign of her, but there was nothing. She wasn’t here."You look really happy this morning," I said, and before I could even ask him anything, he reached for me first and hugged me. He even kissed me on the forehead, making my entire face flush with blood. Then he told me he needed to get a shower because he was stinking a lot.Of course, I released him to take care of his personal hygiene, and when he was out of sight, I foun
Raphael's POVThis time, I went back to a pack that I had already been to before and settled in a new motel. I did not have to look for her before I found my warming piece for tonight. She was dressed in all the right ways to signal to me that she was available for the taking, and I went over to her. At first, she played hard to get, but when I released my alpha aura, she understood that I was of a much higher ranking than her.She licked her lips and looked up at me."What's an alpha doing in a crummy place like this?" she said, half amused and half curious. But she didn’t need to know about my personal business. If she did, I would have told her that places like this were easier to cover up. If I went to high and well-established hotels that were more fitting of my status, then I would have easily been plucked out. Also, places like that were not easily and readily available with women like her who could follow me to bed in the blink of an eye."My name is Sienna," she said with a s
Raphael’s POV"Raphael, please tell me the truth. Are you going to be leaving again today? That would be the second time this week alone. Maybe you should rest just a little bit. I’m so worried for you and the way you’ve been stressing yourself out recently because of my sister. I’m not discouraging you from finding her and making sure that the baby is okay because it’s not like she can be trusted, but still."Isabella had come all the way to the training field, and she had brought with her a basket of fruits, apples to be exact, meant to wiggle her way into the hearts of my men.But from the flat looks on their faces, I doubted it was working as well as she hoped. She first skipped into the training field and called out for everyone’s attention. They straight up ignored her for a couple of minutes. It was only when I cleared my throat to signal to them that what they were doing was rude that they finally acknowledged her.I knew that my warriors had never been fond of Isabella becaus
