ANUSHKA'S POV

My heart thumped so hard in my chest as McKenzie hovered on top of me after letting the bed hangings fall . The light were off but the whole room was bright from the light that was emitting from the moon through the unclosed window curtains. I could see all of McKenzie, from her gorgeous face and her ripped upper body that was shining delicately under the moonlight and the pair of glistening grey eyes that sent a jot of electricity through my entire body as they met mine in a very heated gaze. A meek whimper passed through my dry mouth, my eyes flattering away for a moment as Danelle's gaze intensified even more causing a pool of wetness to flood between my thighs and leaving my poor walls to clench in around nothing helplessly.

I was breathless already, my chest heaving up and down in rapid breaths. My timid gaze went up to McKenzie's face again and my breath hitched as those same set of electrifying eyes met mine again, reducing me to nothing but a bundle of sensitive

DANELLE’S POV Four months later..... The double doors of the conference room clicked shut behind me as I exhaled the kind of breath that only quarterly board meetings could suck out of your lungs. “Great job in there, ma’am,” James said, falling into step beside me, his tablet balanced like an extra limb. I gave him a nod, loosening the button on my blazer. “Tell legal I want the paperwork for the Oakland merger on my desk by five. And no spin—just the raw draft. I’ll redline it myself.” “Yes, ma’am. And the delegation from Lagos rescheduled—they’re flying in next Friday.” “Book the suite at the Peninsula for them. Full hospitality.” “Already done.” "Good." The elevator dinged, and we stepped out onto the executive floor—quiet, carpeted and pulsing with the low hum of power that only the top tier ever heard. James kept pace beside me, flipping through his digital calendar. “Also, I confirmed the Q3 audit with Price & Knox. They’re sending someone senior this time,

  • FIRE & ICE   Chapter 109: Acceptance

ANUSHKA’S POV The car had barely rolled to a stop before the first voice rang out. "Arey, dekho kaun aaya hai!" (Look who's here!) Before I could even open the door fully, half the lane had already begun to stir. Heads peeked out of windows, slippers slapped against concrete, and someone shouted for Sarvi to come quickly. It was like a string had been pulled, and every corner of the colony lit up at once. Curtains were flung open. Kids dashed out of houses, some still holding half-eaten roti rolls. Even Baloo ,Uncle Ranbir's dog perked up, his tail wagging as he ran after the children who were running towards me. "Anushka beti!" Mrs. Chawla appeared from her ground floor veranda, still in her printed nightgown and a towel flung over one shoulder, mango pickle jar in hand. She rushed across the courtyard and gathered me into her arms with startling strength. "Oh, my sweet, sweet girl, look at you!" she exclaimed, drawing back just far enough to place both hands on my cheeks.

  • FIRE & ICE   Chapter 108: Devotion

DANELLE'S POV The house had finally settled into a soft lull. Laughter still drifted faintly from the kitchen, where Aaliyah and Priyanka were teasing someone—probably Aunt Pooja—but upstairs, it was quieter. Warmer. Familiar in a way that wrapped around your ribs and loosened something deep in your chest. I climbed the stairs slowly, my hand trailing along the smooth mahogany railing. The hallway was dim, lit only by the sconces casting soft golden halos along the cream walls. Our bedroom door was half-open, and I could hear her before I saw her—Anushka’s voice, low and soothing, humming a melody I couldn’t place. When I stepped inside, she was by the open suitcase, barefoot, hair up in a messy bun, one of my old T-shirts hanging loosely on her frame. She had folded half our clothes already, organizing them in tidy little piles on the bench at the foot of the bed. Her back was to me, but she didn’t need to turn around. “You’re hovering,” she said without missing a beat.

  • FIRE & ICE   Chapter 107: Homecoming

DANELLE'S POV The soft hum of the engines lulled us into a peaceful quiet as the jet sliced through the clouds. Anushka curled against my side, her head resting on my shoulder, her fingers gently playing with the edge of my jacket. After nearly three months of traveling—from the sun-soaked streets of Barcelona to starlit nights along Venetian canals—this stillness felt like the most beautiful part of all. “You comfortable, baby?” I murmured, turning slightly to look at her. She hummed in response, eyes still closed. “Too comfortable.” I smiled, pressing a kiss to the top of her head. “Good. That’s exactly what I want to hear.” We were heading home—back to our lives, to routines, to people who had missed us. But we weren’t coming back the same. We had grown, together. And now, with a new life growing inside her, everything felt deeper. More sacred. By the time we landed in L.A., the sun was blazing overhead. A sleek black town car was already waiting for us on the tarmac. Our lu

  • FIRE & ICE   Chapter 106: New beginnings

ANUSHKA'S POV I blinked up at the ceiling, white and painfully bright, the sterile chill of the hospital clinging to my skin even beneath the blanket. A low hum of machines and quiet beeping surrounded me, anchoring me to the reality I still hadn’t fully absorbed. I was pregnant. Pregnant. I felt the weight of the word settle over me like a wave, rushing into every corner of my mind, every crevice of my body. It didn’t feel real. It didn’t make sense. I hadn’t been sick, hadn’t felt anything different. I’d chalked the exhaustion up to the travel, the late nights, the whirlwind of the honeymoon. But now, with the haze of pain faded and only a dull ache left behind, I could feel it. That subtle shift inside me. That new, quiet presence. With my heart racing, my hand instinctively drifted down towards my stomach, resting lightly against the fabric of the blanket. My baby. The thought was both exhilarating and terrifying, a beautiful contradiction that sent a shiver of emot

  • FIRE & ICE   Chapter 105: The third time around

ANUSHKA'S POV Two weeks later.... Barcelona was breathtaking. The way the sun dipped low behind the skyline of ancient rooftops and spiraling cathedrals made everything feel like it belonged in a painting. McKenzie had pulled back the heavy curtains in our suite earlier just to watch the way the golden hour bathed the streets below. That golden hue right before sunset? It poured through the tall hotel windows, soaking everything in warm, honey-like light. Even McKenzie looked like she belonged to another world, sitting on the bed in just her shorts, her skin kissed by the sun, the soft rumble of her laugh vibrating under my cheek as I rested my head on her chest. The soft breeze floated in through the balcony doors, carrying the scent of the ocean, and somewhere below, a street musician played a slow, romantic tune on his guitar. It was the last stop on our honeymoon tour. The final place on my bucket list of destinations I swore I would visit one day. And McKenzie had made th
