My eyes widened like saucers the moment I heard it.

"My woman."

Those words echoed in my head, crashing against every wall of my chest, bouncing off my ribs like they were trying to anchor themselves into my heart.

He said it like he meant it. Like I wasn’t just some broken girl with a ticking clock hanging over her life. My heart slammed against my ribs,

I could barely process it before the two men lunged at him again, rage written in every hard line of their faces. But Nick didn’t back down. Not an inch. He stood tall, unshaken, like a storm that had been waiting for something to unleash itself on.

He lunged forward like a beast unchained, grabbing one of the men by the collar. His knuckles moved with terrifying speed, fists landing with raw, bone-snapping power. I gasped, stepping back as one of the men went flying, slamming into the metal shelves with a loud crash. Another punch sent the second one spiraling to the ground, groaning in pain.
