LOGINEVA'S POV
Rachel’s sudden arrival felt like a slap I never saw coming. On one hand, I somewhat expected it and on the other hand, I was extremely surprised and I had no idea how to react to her arrival. She floated into the hotel lobby like she owned the entire building bright smile, perfect hair, voice loud enough for everyone to know she had arrived for her fiancé. Her arms instantly wrapped around Clark’s neck, pulling him close, and before he could even breathe, she kissed his cheek loudly. “Missed you, baby.” My stomach twisted. Rachel was my sister and if there was anyone who knew her better than her herself, it was me and so I knew almost immediately that she didn't come here just because she missed her fiance...she came here to prove a point. Clark’s face didn’t match the enthusiasm. He gave a small, stiff smile. “Rachel… you didn’t tell me you were coming.” “Oh please,” she giggled, latching onto his arm. “It was a surprise…Aren’t you happy to see your fiancée?” He didn’t answer. Instead, his eyes flicked to mine…fast, sharp, searching. "Babe, why does your face look so sour?? i asked you a question and you just ignored me" Rachel said as she pouted. "What question, sorry??" "Aren't you happy to see me??" "Oh yes I am baby..i am just shocked because I remember you told me you didn't want to come on this trip." "I just couldn't bear the thought of being far away from you for too long baby... that's why I decided to surprise you." Rachel said as she kissed Clark repeatedly on his lips. I could tell Clark wasn't enjoying any but if whatever was happening because he had such a soured look on his face that I wondered how Rachel couldn't see it. I looked away as we went back to the meeting room. The meeting was supposed to be calm and professional. It wasn’t. Rachel held Clark’s arm the entire walk into the conference hall. She didn’t sit on her chair…she sat on his lap for a few seconds while adjusting her skirt, laughing like she belonged there. “Oops! Sorry, babe, I forgot my seat was over there,” she said, sliding into the chair beside him but keeping her hand on his thigh like it was glued there. I almost choked on my own breath. Even Clark paused, slightly shifting as if her hand was uncomfortable, but Rachel acted like she didn’t see it. During the presentation, she leaned toward him repeatedly. Fixing his tie...Adjusting his collar....Whispering things into his ear and smiling like she was marking territory. The entire room noticed. And Clark noticed that I noticed. His jaw tightened every time Rachel touched him. His voice kept changing…steady when talking to others, strained when Rachel leaned too close. At one point, as he spoke, his eyes flicked to me again… and held. For a beat too long. My heart betrayed me with how fast it beat. Rachel saw it. Her smile disappeared. Her eyes narrowed, sharp and territorial. She leaned in and kissed Clark’s cheek again…slow and lingering..right while he was explaining a major strategy point to the investors. He froze mid-sentence. Completely froze. The room went silent. He cleared his throat sharply and continued, eyes darting to me like he needed reassurance that I saw he hadn’t encouraged her. And I hated that I did. I tried to sneak away. I needed air. I needed space. I needed..something. But Rachel intercepted me. “Eva!” she called, linking her arm with mine. I stiffened. Clark watched from across the room. Rachel smiled sweetly. “So… how is my fiancé behaving? Hope he’s professional and not giving you too much stress.” She emphasized my fiancé like she wanted it to slice through my skin. I forced a smile. “He’s been great to work with.” “Hm....” Her eyes scanned me. Probably Judging and calculating. Then she leaned in casually. “You’re pretty, Eva....Pretty girls get wrong ideas sometimes...Just want to make sure you know your place.” I stopped walking. I stared at her. She didn’t blink. Before I could respond, Clark appeared behind us. “Rachel.... Enough.” His voice was low. Controlled. Dangerous. Rachel turned dramatically. “Enough of what? I was just talking to your sister in law.” “I said enough.” His jaw clenched. “Eva, go ahead…I’ll meet you inside.” That subtle protectiveness… That tone… Rachel heard it too. Her smile cracked. Rachel somehow made the rest of the day unbearable. Public affection every second. Clinging to Clark like he would disappear if she blinked. Touching him even when he subtly pulled away. And the worst part? Every time she did, Clark’s eyes found me. Like my reaction mattered more than her touch. By the end of the day, I was exhausted…emotionally, mentally, everything. I escaped to my hotel room, closed the door, and pressed my forehead against it. I shouldn’t care. I shouldn’t feel anything. None of this concerns me. He is not mine. He belongs to someone else. To her. And yet… A soft knock hit my door. I froze. Another knock. I opened the door slowly And Clark stood there. His tie loosened, hair slightly messy from stress, eyes dark and unreadable. “Clark?” my voice whispered. He stepped closer, lowering his voice as though the hallway itself could betray him. “Eva…” His throat bobbed. “I don’t want to be with Rachel right now.” My breath caught. He looked straight into my soul. “I want to be with you.”CLARK’S POVThe room felt too small after Rachel’s words.Eva is engaged.I sat there, staring at my desk, my eyes unfocused. The broken pen lay between my fingers, ink slowly staining my skin, but I barely noticed. What made me more angry was the fact that she was extremely excited about the news which she just shared.Rachel was still standing in front of me, watching my face like she was waiting for permission to breathe.“Clark?” she called softly. “Did you hear me?”I looked up at her...as a matter of fact, I glared at her.She was still smiling….that polite, practiced smile she always wore in public. The one that said everything is fine, even when it clearly wasn’t.“You said Eva is engaged,” I replied slowly.“Yes,” she nodded. “Daniel proposed…Isn’t that… good news?”Good news.I stood up abruptly, my chair scraping loudly against the floor as Rachel flinched."Rachel??" "Yes baby." “Why are you still here?” I asked. Her brows furrowed. “I came to talk to you….About the
CLARK’S POVThe first thing I felt was anger. Not the loud kind but the quiet one that sits in your chest and burns slowly.Eva’s face kept replaying in my head as I walked out of the restaurant… the shock, the restraint, the disappointment. She didn’t yell, she didn’t cry as she simply chose herself. That hurt more than the water she poured on me and to be honest, I really didn't know what came over me.Seeing her together with that sorry excuse of a man she called her boyfriend made me extremely jealous and furious.I didn’t know where I was going when I stepped into the night. My phone buzzed several times…Rachel, my assistant, even my driver but I ignored all of it.Immediately Eva walked out of the restaurant, Rachel started her usual tantrums and I was definitely not in the mood for that and so I just got up and walked away. I walked until my legs hurt even when I knew very well I had a car and then I saw a bar.The sign flickered like it had lived a hard life, and something
EVA’S POVThe click of the bathroom lock echoed louder than it should have.I turned slowly, my heart pounding as Clark leaned against the door like he owned the space and maybe, in that moment, he did.He didn’t rush me.That was the dangerous part. His eyes travelled over me slowly, lazily, like he had all the time in the world. The corner of his lips lifted in a faint smile. The least I expected to enter the bathroom with me was Clark.…a female bathroom as a matter of fact was Clark.“What are you doing here Clark?? Get out!!!" "Why should I??”"Because first this is a female bathroom?? Are you a pervert??!!”"Oh trust me if I was a pervert you would know.”“Clark, what are you fucking doing here??!! Get out!!!" “So,” he said calmly, breaking the silence.“That’s the kind of man you choose now?”I folded my arms. “Open the door, Clark.”He chuckled softly. “You didn’t answer my question.”“Because it doesn’t deserve an answer.”He straightened and took a step toward me. “Dani
EVA’S POV"You are out of your damn mind!!”My heart was still racing when Clark said those words.“I am not Eva…I know what I want and I don’t want to marry Rachel anymore.”I stared at him like he had just spoken in another language. As much as I cared more than I should for Clark, there were some certain things that were never meant to be or happen as much as I badly wanted it.“Clark… no,” I said immediately, shaking my head. “You can’t say that.”He stepped closer. “I just did.”I took a step back. “You shouldn’t even be here saying this to me……you are to get married soon..what are you saying???.”“I had to.” he replied. “I’m tired of pretending.”“That doesn’t change anything,” I said firmly. “In fact, it makes everything worse.”He frowned. “Why?”“Because I finally realized how serious this is ” I said. “Your mother invited Rachel…That alone tells me this is bigger than feelings.”“My mother invited her but you came along!! And besides she doesn’t even like Rachel,” he
EVA'S POVI thought I was dreaming. That was the first thing that crossed my mind when I saw him on his knees in front of me.Daniel.My ex-boyfriend.The same man who once promised me forever and then disappeared from my life like I meant nothing. The same man who blocked me on every social media platform, ignored my calls, and pretended I never existed after breaking my heart.I blinked once.Twice.He was still there.“Eva,” he said, his voice breaking. “I still love you.”My heart pounded violently against my chest. For a brief second, I truly believed I had finally lost my mind. Maybe exhaustion had finally caught up with me or maybe loneliness had decided to play tricks on my heart. But when he reached out and held my hand, I knew this was real.I pulled my hand away immediately and suddenly burst into laughter.I was so sure that at that moment, I looked like a maniac laughing like that.“Why are you laughing Eva??? Are you that excited to see me??" “No,” I said sharply. “
CLARK’S POVThe trip ended quietly.Too quietly. No scandals..No headlines and no pictures.Just the kind of silence that follows chaos when everything looks calm on the outside, but something underneath is already cracked. As soon as we landed back home, I felt the weight return to my chest. Work waited, the wedding waited, Life waited. And Rachel followed. She didn’t even ask.I noticed her car behind mine the moment I left the airport. At first, I told myself it was a coincidence but by the third turn, I knew it wasn’t.When I finally pulled into my house and stepped out, she was already getting out of her car, arms folded, lips pressed tight.“What are you doing here, Rachel?” I asked, keeping my voice low.“I followed you,” she said plainly, like it was nothing.“That much is obvious.”She frowned. “Why are you talking to me like that?”“Because you had no business following me to a business trip.” I said sharply. “And you have no business following me home unannounced.”Her
