CLARK’S POV

The trip ended quietly.

Too quietly.

No scandals..No headlines and no pictures.

Just the kind of silence that follows chaos when everything looks calm on the outside, but something underneath is already cracked.

As soon as we landed back home, I felt the weight return to my chest.

Work waited, the wedding waited, Life waited.

And Rachel followed.

She didn’t even ask.

I noticed her car behind mine the moment I left the airport.

At first, I told myself it was a coincidence but by the third turn, I knew it wasn’t.

When I finally pulled into my house and stepped out, she was already getting out of her car, arms folded, lips pressed tight.

“What are you doing here, Rachel?” I asked, keeping my voice low.

“I followed you,” she said plainly, like it was nothing.

“That much is obvious.”

She frowned.

“Why are you talking to me like that?”

“Because you had no business following me to a business trip.” I said sharply.

“And you have no business following me home unannounced.”

Her eyes widened.

“I’m your fiancée, Clark.”

“That doesn’t mean you can cross boundaries.”

She scoffed.

“Boundaries? Since when did we start talking about boundaries?”

Since Eva.

I didn’t say that, of course.

Instead, I rubbed my temple and turned away.

“You embarrassed me..you questioned my integrity and you did it in public.”

She followed me inside.

“I only came because people were talking.”

“People always talk.”

“They were talking about you and Eva.”

I stopped walking.

Slowly, I turned to face her.

“What did you just say?”

Her eyes searched my face.

“Is there something going on between you and my sister?”

The question hung in the air like poison.

I laughed a short and humorless laugh.

“Are you serious right now?”

“Answer me, Clark.”

“You sound crazy,” I said bluntly.

“Completely crazy.”

Her face flushed.

“So that’s it? You won’t even deny it?”

“I am denying it.” I snapped.

“Nothing happened…Nothing is happening and nothing will happen.”

She stared at me for a long moment, like she was looking for cracks…for guilt or for anything to hold onto.

Finally, she exhaled.

“Then why do I feel like I’m losing you?”

Because you already have.

I didn’t say that either.

Instead, I opened the door.

“Go home, Rachel….We’ll talk later.”

“You’re sending me away?” she asked softly.

“Yes.”

She hesitated, then grabbed her bag and walked out without another word.

The house felt quieter after she left.

Too quiet.

I poured myself a drink and barely took a sip before the doorbell rang.

I frowned.

I wasn’t expecting anyone.

When I opened the door, my breath caught.

“Mother?”

She smiled brightly.

“Surprised?”

“What are you doing here?” I asked, stepping aside.

“I decided to come early,” she said, walking in like she owned the place which, honestly, she kind of did.

“Wedding preparations.”

I sighed.

“You could’ve called.”

“And ruin the surprise?” She waved it off.

“Where’s my future daughter-in-law? I want to meet her properly.”

My stomach tightened.

“I’ll invite her over,” I said carefully.

“Good.” She smiled. “I’m very excited.”

I called Rachel.

She answered on the third ring.

“Yes?” she said, still cold.

“My mother is in town,” I said.

“She wants to see you.”

There was a pause and then excitement.

“I’ll be right there.”

I sighed deeply as I knew that my Mother was making a mistake inviting Rachel over.

An hour later, the doorbell rang again.

I opened it and froze.

Rachel stood there, smiling brightly.

Beside her was Eva.

“What are you doing here?” I asked before I could stop myself.

Rachel laughed.

“I brought her…You don’t mind, do you? She’s family.”

Eva looked just as shocked as I felt.

My mother stepped forward, eyes lighting up.

“Oh! You must be Clark’s fiancée.”

Eva stiffened.

“No….”

Rachel quickly laughed.

“Oh no, that’s me.”

My mother blinked, then smiled politely.

“Ah…Then you must be her sister.”

“Yes ma’am,” Eva said softly.

Dinner was… exhausting.

Rachel talked endlessly.

About the wedding.

About the dress.

About how much she loved me.

My mother listened quietly, asking questions here and there.

“So, Rachel,” she said finally,

“what are your plans after marriage?”

Rachel smiled.

“Plans?”

“Yes. Career? Goals?”

“Well,” she laughed.

“Clark will take care of everything.”

My mother’s smile thinned.

“And your interests?”

“Shopping, traveling, being a good wife.”

Silence followed.

Eva barely spoke, but when she did, it was thoughtful, Calm and Intelligent.

My mother noticed.

When dinner ended, she stood.

“Thank you for coming.”

Rachel hugged her and Eva smiled politely.

As soon as the door closed behind them, my mother turned to me.

“I don’t like her.”

My heart skipped.

“Mother….”

“She talks too much and thinks too little,” she said calmly.

“And she’s not the woman for you.”

I swallowed hard.

And then she added..

“But the other one… that Eva girl… she’s dangerous.”

The room went very still.

“What exactly did my mother mean by dangerous???"

CLARK’S POVThe room felt too small after Rachel’s words.Eva is engaged.I sat there, staring at my desk, my eyes unfocused. The broken pen lay between my fingers, ink slowly staining my skin, but I barely noticed. What made me more angry was the fact that she was extremely excited about the news which she just shared.Rachel was still standing in front of me, watching my face like she was waiting for permission to breathe.“Clark?” she called softly. “Did you hear me?”I looked up at her...as a matter of fact, I glared at her.She was still smiling….that polite, practiced smile she always wore in public. The one that said everything is fine, even when it clearly wasn’t.“You said Eva is engaged,” I replied slowly.“Yes,” she nodded. “Daniel proposed…Isn’t that… good news?”Good news.I stood up abruptly, my chair scraping loudly against the floor as Rachel flinched."Rachel??" "Yes baby." “Why are you still here?” I asked. Her brows furrowed. “I came to talk to you….About the

CLARK’S POVThe first thing I felt was anger. Not the loud kind but the quiet one that sits in your chest and burns slowly.Eva’s face kept replaying in my head as I walked out of the restaurant… the shock, the restraint, the disappointment. She didn’t yell, she didn’t cry as she simply chose herself. That hurt more than the water she poured on me and to be honest, I really didn't know what came over me.Seeing her together with that sorry excuse of a man she called her boyfriend made me extremely jealous and furious.I didn’t know where I was going when I stepped into the night. My phone buzzed several times…Rachel, my assistant, even my driver but I ignored all of it.Immediately Eva walked out of the restaurant, Rachel started her usual tantrums and I was definitely not in the mood for that and so I just got up and walked away. I walked until my legs hurt even when I knew very well I had a car and then I saw a bar.The sign flickered like it had lived a hard life, and something

EVA’S POVThe click of the bathroom lock echoed louder than it should have.I turned slowly, my heart pounding as Clark leaned against the door like he owned the space and maybe, in that moment, he did.He didn’t rush me.That was the dangerous part. His eyes travelled over me slowly, lazily, like he had all the time in the world. The corner of his lips lifted in a faint smile. The least I expected to enter the bathroom with me was Clark.…a female bathroom as a matter of fact was Clark.“What are you doing here Clark?? Get out!!!" "Why should I??”"Because first this is a female bathroom?? Are you a pervert??!!”"Oh trust me if I was a pervert you would know.”“Clark, what are you fucking doing here??!! Get out!!!" “So,” he said calmly, breaking the silence.“That’s the kind of man you choose now?”I folded my arms. “Open the door, Clark.”He chuckled softly. “You didn’t answer my question.”“Because it doesn’t deserve an answer.”He straightened and took a step toward me. “Dani

EVA’S POV"You are out of your damn mind!!”My heart was still racing when Clark said those words.“I am not Eva…I know what I want and I don’t want to marry Rachel anymore.”I stared at him like he had just spoken in another language. As much as I cared more than I should for Clark, there were some certain things that were never meant to be or happen as much as I badly wanted it.“Clark… no,” I said immediately, shaking my head. “You can’t say that.”He stepped closer. “I just did.”I took a step back. “You shouldn’t even be here saying this to me……you are to get married soon..what are you saying???.”“I had to.” he replied. “I’m tired of pretending.”“That doesn’t change anything,” I said firmly. “In fact, it makes everything worse.”He frowned. “Why?”“Because I finally realized how serious this is ” I said. “Your mother invited Rachel…That alone tells me this is bigger than feelings.”“My mother invited her but you came along!! And besides she doesn’t even like Rachel,” he

EVA'S POVI thought I was dreaming. That was the first thing that crossed my mind when I saw him on his knees in front of me.Daniel.My ex-boyfriend.The same man who once promised me forever and then disappeared from my life like I meant nothing. The same man who blocked me on every social media platform, ignored my calls, and pretended I never existed after breaking my heart.I blinked once.Twice.He was still there.“Eva,” he said, his voice breaking. “I still love you.”My heart pounded violently against my chest. For a brief second, I truly believed I had finally lost my mind. Maybe exhaustion had finally caught up with me or maybe loneliness had decided to play tricks on my heart. But when he reached out and held my hand, I knew this was real.I pulled my hand away immediately and suddenly burst into laughter.I was so sure that at that moment, I looked like a maniac laughing like that.“Why are you laughing Eva??? Are you that excited to see me??" “No,” I said sharply. “
