Author's POV

Quentin stood rigid, his fists balled. “You made my mom get hurt! Leave me alone, Luke. I don't want to play with you anymore.” Quentin yelled, his voice drawing the attention of everyone.

Lady Celeste took a step towards them but a hand on her shoulder stopped her. Lady Adelaide shook her head.

Luke broke under Quentin's fury, tears streaming as he shook his head. “I’m sorry! I was scared! I didn’t mean it!”

Quentin’s face twisted, the anger spilling into sobs of his own.

Then he did something that surprised the adults: He wiped his tears and placed a hand on Luke's shoulder. “I… I forgive you. So, don't cry. Dad says mom is strong. She'll wake up.”

Luke wailed before wrapping his arms around Quentin and the boys just stood, crying.

Jude smiled, but then his thoughts went to Cassie.

Cassie never made it past the plane. Her body gave out in Ledger's arms and he carried her to one of the ambulances waiting outside, worried she was hurt.

Author's POV Liam approached them. “I'll also be taking my leave as well, father, mother.”Whitney stepped forward. “I hate to leave when Cassie and her mom are still here, but I'm a little worried about the café. Joe and Casey will be swamped once the uni resumes.”Lady Adelaide nodded. “Unstandable, dear. Do well to inform me when you all arrive.”Whitney smiled. “Will do, mother.”“Four members of my squad will go with you for protection. Just in case.” Jude said. Though it wasn't an outright order, his tone left no room for discussion. They nodded. Declan patted Declan on the shoulder twice before they were joined by Dorothy.“Mother, father. I know the trip didn't end like you wanted, but know that none of us regret coming on this trip.” She assured them. “And though they might not agree now, I'm sure the Monroes will come to realize this later.”Lady Adelaide didn't look convinced but she smiled nonetheless. “Thank you for saying that, Dear Dorothy.”Dorothy smiled. “No need to

  • Fake Dating With The Playboy hockey Captain   Chapter 130

Ledger's POVHow exactly did we get here? I was in my final year. This was just supposed to be my season. Finish at the top of the league and go pro. Yet somehow, I'd ended up here… In the middle of a shootout in a strange land as well. What were the odds of experiencing something like this? I didn't know. And even then, all I could think about was Cassie.General Monroe and his soldiers had the last hijacker pinned, but I knew there was still one left in the women’s wing. The one she’d run toward.I glanced back. Mother was at the exit, waving frantically as soldiers directed the rest of the family off the plane. Father was in front of her, protecting her with his body. Even in chaos, they were still them.“Ledger, come on,” Mother called. Her eyes cut through the dim cabin lights, sharp and pleading.Father had moved to Jude's side, a firearm in hand.I shook my head. “Cassie and her family are still back there. I can’t.”“We’ll get them,” she said firmly, like she could will it int

Cassie's POV I flinched when a shot rang out in the plane. And then another. My hands flew up, covering my ears before I even realized what I was doing.“Open your eyes, Cassie.” I heard Jude say, his voice urgent.I slowly forced my eyes open. He was right in front of me, body squared, shielding me. Behind him, the attendant who’d been smiling politely just minutes ago was now coughing blood, her hand still raised, pistol aimed toward his back.It hit me all at once—he’d stepped in front of me, taken the shot.A low grunt escaped him.“Jude!” My voice cracked, terrified he’d been hit.“I’m fine,” he grunted. “Bulletproof vest. Hurts like hell, but I’m fine.”The woman collapsed, but Jude caught my chin, turning my face sharply away. His touch was firm, almost fatherly. “Don’t look. Eyes on me.”I nodded fast, fighting the urge to glance back. Fighting the reality that someone had just died two feet away.“Cassie!” Ledger’s voice rang out as he rushed over.“Take her and join the oth

Cassie's POV“Addie thought you might head this way,” he said smoothly. “Is something wrong?”I blinked. Lady Adelaide knew I’d end up here? Wow. Those two were playing chess while I was still figuring out the rules.I blinked, then looked between the two of them. “You were both awake this whole time?”Jude gave me a look that said Obviously. “Well, just me. Declan woke up a couple minutes before you came in.”Before I could answer, Jude’s focus pinned me. “You noticed, didn’t you?”I frowned. “Wait… you knew?”“Of course I did,” he said with a tired sigh. Not smug, not proud. Just stating it like it was part of his job description.Ledger glanced between us, exasperated. “Anyone want to fill me in on what the hell is going on here?”I exhaled, my chest tight. “There are hijackers in the plane.”“What?” Ledger blurted.“So they really are hijackers, then.” Jude didn’t even blink, just said it flatly as he bent down and dragged a duffel from under his bed.My eyes narrowed in suspicion

  • Fake Dating With The Playboy hockey Captain   Chapter 127

Cassie's POVI wanted to sleep so badly, but with the way things were shaping up… yeah, no chance. My body kept begging for rest, but my brain refused to shut down. There was no way I could drift off now. Not when I was almost certain the people piloting this plane weren’t who they said they were.I paced. Quiet steps back and forth along the aisle, laptop balanced in my arms like I had an actual deadline pressing down on me. When one of the attendants noticed and asked why I was awake, I put on the most tired, sheepish smile I could muster and said, “I have an article due at eight. I put it off to enjoy the break, now I have to pay the price.”They didn’t push further, just gave me one of those awkward half-smiles before walking off. I didn’t miss the sideways glance he threw toward the others though… or the way he stopped to whisper with another attendant once he thought I wasn’t paying attention. That was enough to keep me moving. Keep me awake. Then I found Lady Adelaide brewing
