Julia — First-Person POV
The silence after Kai shouted felt terrifying.
Not quiet.
Terrifying.
Like the entire estate had frozen around us, waiting to see who would break first.
Alan’s arm stayed firmly around my waist, his body tense against mine. I could feel the violent rhythm of his heartbeat beneath my cheek, steady but dangerous—like he was holding himself together through sheer control alone.
Kai stood across the room breathing hard, his chest rising and falling sharply. His eyes never left me.
Or my stomach.
That frightened me more than his anger.
Ava looked shattered.
Not emotional.
Destroyed.
Her fingers trembled against the edge of the marble counter as she stared at Alan like she no longer recognized him.
“You got her pregnant,” she whispered.
Alan didn’t hesitate.
“Yes.”
One word.
Certain.
Final.
Ava laughed suddenly—a small, broken sound.
“Of course,” she murmured. “Of course this would happen.”
“Kai,” Alan said coldly without taking his eyes off me, “take your sister and leave.”
That only made Kai snap harder.
“Don’t order me around,” he hissed.
The air turned electric again.
I pulled away slightly from Alan’s chest, my voice shaking.
“Please… stop.”
Neither man listened.
Kai stepped forward.
“You think having his child protects you?” he asked me, voice rough with emotion he could barely contain. “Julia, you have no idea what this means now.”
Alan immediately moved in front of me.
“It means she’s untouchable.”
Kai’s laugh was harsh.
“No,” he said quietly. “It means she’s in even more danger.”
A chill slid through me.
Because deep down…
I knew he wasn’t lying.
Ava suddenly looked at me again, and something inside her expression changed.
Not jealousy.
Not rage.
Something colder.
“You really don’t understand what you’ve done,” she whispered.
My throat tightened.
“What does that mean?”
She smiled faintly.
“The Bennett bloodline was already enough to start a war.” Her gaze dropped slowly toward my stomach. “Now there’s an heir.”
The word hit the room like shattered glass.
Heir.
Alan’s entire body stiffened.
Kai closed his eyes briefly, like he already saw the disaster coming.
And suddenly, I understood.
This wasn’t just about love anymore.
Or obsession.
Or revenge.
This child changed everything.
Corporate power.
Inheritance.
The Bennett legacy.
Every secret surrounding me had just become more dangerous.
Alan looked down at me then, softer than I had ever seen him before.
His hand moved carefully against my cheek.
“You’re not dealing with this alone,” he murmured.
The intensity in his voice made my chest ache.
“I’ll protect both of you.”
My eyes burned with tears.
“But what if I can’t survive this?” I whispered.
Alan’s expression darkened instantly.
“Don’t say that.”
“Kai already said people are hunting me—”
“And they’ll have to go through me first.”
The promise in his voice wasn’t comforting.
It was lethal.
Kai watched us silently, his jaw tight.
Then finally, quietly, he spoke.
“You should leave the estate tonight.”
Alan turned sharply. “No.”
“Yes,” Kai snapped back. “You think Ava leaking the files was the worst thing that could happen? It wasn’t.” His eyes locked onto mine. “The people connected to your mother are going to come for you now.”
Fear curled painfully in my stomach.
“What people?”
Kai hesitated.
That hesitation told me enough.
Alan noticed too.
“What aren’t you saying?”
Kai dragged a hand down his face slowly.
Then his voice dropped lower.
“Your mother wasn’t hiding Julia from one enemy.” He looked directly at me. “She was hiding her from the entire Bennett board.”
The room went still.
Even Ava looked shaken.
My pulse pounded violently.
“What?”
Kai swallowed hard.
“Your mother discovered something before she died.” His gaze darkened. “Something powerful enough that multiple people wanted her silenced.”
Alan’s eyes narrowed dangerously.
“And now?” he asked.
Kai looked at my stomach again.
“Now Julia’s carrying the next Bennett heir.” His voice turned grim. “Which means they’ll never stop hunting her.”
