SOPHIE
I stepped out of the taxi and paid the driver, tightening my wrap over my shoulders and smiling at my son, Miguel, as I began walking, using my G****e Maps app to navigate my way to the right place. Rotterdam was a unique and appealing city, situated on the banks of the Nieuwe Maas river. The port was well-equipped and connected, with a long history of maritime activity. The city had the most modern skyline in the Netherlands, with its architectural designs and lively cultural life.
As I walked, I noticed my phone battery was almost dead and decided to ask for directions before I got stranded. "Excuse me, sir. Can you tell me where Valentina Foster's family home is?" I asked softly. The way the old man looked at me sent shivers down my spine, but he simply pointed to the left side of the road without speaking. "Thank you," I said, and watched him walk away before following his directions.
A few meters ahead, I saw someone waving at me. It was Valentina. She ran up to me and took my backpack and suitcases from me. "Valentina, it's really you! I almost didn't recognize you," I exclaimed. She smiled widely. "Of course, that's possible. We've never met face to face. Apart from the photos of me that I normally upload on I*******m, I knew you might not recognize me immediately," she said softly.
I nodded in agreement.
"My friend, I'm so happy to see you," she said, brushing Miguel's hair. "Please, let me show you the way," she said, leading me towards the entrance of her house.
The exterior of the house was quite old. The paint was faded and some of the windows were broken. The place really needed a complete renovation. I couldn't help but think that if I hadn't already mapped out what I planned to do with the funds I had brought with me, I would have offered to help. But it didn't matter. My days of luxury were over and I needed to adjust to my surroundings in order to fulfill the purpose of my visit.
Inside, the house was completely different than I had expected. The sitting room was huge, with three chairs in the center and a chandelier hanging from the ceiling. A large television was mounted on the wall, and the walls and ceiling were covered in mirrors and doors. The floor was tiled with a red shag carpet. A man approached from one of the rooms and greeted Valentina with a kiss on the lips before turning to me.
"Sophie, meet my husband, Cassino Foster," Valentina introduced us. He was a dark-skinned man, about six feet tall, and extended his hand for a handshake.
"Nice to meet you, Mr. Foster. Thank you for your hospitality," I said.
"It's nothing. My wife's friend is my friend as well," he replied, studying me with his eyes. "You're quite young to have a child," he said, in an offhanded manner.
I smiled, not sure if it was a compliment or a subtle criticism of my having a child out of wedlock. "I'm not that young anymore. I'm turning 25 this year, so please take back your word. Miguel is the best thing that has ever happened to me," I replied.
If he was surprised by my response, he didn't show it, simply nodding. "I didn't mean it that way, Sophie. No offense," he said.
"None taken," I replied.
I whispered something to Valentina before climbing the stairs to what I assumed was their master bedroom. As I entered the room, I couldn't help but appreciate its simplicity yet comfortable feel. The walls were painted a soothing shade of blue, and in the center of the room stood a king-sized bed, complete with a large standing fan to keep the room cool. The floor was beautifully marbled with dark blue and white carpet.
I carefully unpacked my things and placed them around the room before making my way over to the bed. I gently lifted my son out of his baby carrier and placed him on the bed. "Stay here, okay? I'll boil some warm water for you," I murmured to him, even though I knew he wouldn't understand.
He gurgled happily, his dark eyes sparkling with joy.
I made my way over to the small kitchen area, where I retrieved a bottle of water from the fridge. I took a sip before filling Miguel's bottle flask with warm water. I wanted to make sure that the water wasn't too hot for him, so I mixed it with some cold water from the bottle. Cradling him in my arms, I began to change his damp diaper, trying my best to keep him comfortable and entertained. He kicked his legs and giggled, a sound that filled my heart with love.
Once he was changed, I retrieved his already prepared bottle of milk from my backpack and playfully trickled some of the milk onto his lips. He opened his mouth wide and began to suckle hungrily.
Just as I was finishing up, there was a knock on the door. Valentina, my host, stepped in uninvitedly. "Sophie, you can rest up today. Tomorrow, I'll fill you in on how we live around here," she said before leaving, closing the door behind her.
I couldn't help but feel grateful for the opportunity to rest and adjust to my new surroundings before diving into the unknown. I finished feeding Miguel and put him to bed before getting some rest myself, looking forward to the next day and all the new experiences it would bring.
I was jolted awake by a gentle tap on my shoulder. "Wake up. Breakfast is served," said Valentina, her voice soft and quiet so as not to disturb Miguel who was still sleeping soundly next to me.I stretched my arms and let out a yawn, rubbing the sleep from my eyes. "Good morning Valentina. When did you come in?" I asked, my voice still heavy with sleep."Good morning Sophie. I just arrived. Come on, let's start the day. The weather is beautiful for a Monday morning," she said, her voice cheerful as she held my shoulders and guided me out of the room.As we made our way downstairs, I could see that Cassino was already seated at the dining table. He stood up and pulled out a chair for me as I approached."Good morning Cassino," I greeted him as I took my seat next to him."Morning pretty. I hope you and our little boy slept well?" he asked, his voice full of concern.I nodded. "Yeah, I think so."But something felt off about the couple, and I couldn't quite put my finger on what it was
SOPHIE The man narrowed down his head as he waited for his turn. For me to round up whatever I was serving and notice his presence. His prayer seems to have been heard as I leaned over the wooden surface, green eyes boring into his."What'll ya have?", I asked with a smile. If the man standing before me even listened to my question I can't say. He was far too interested in allowing his gaze fall through my breasts. Eventhough I was covered with three layers of clothing, he obviously found the sight of me titillating.I snapped my fingers twice in the air, trying to call back any left-over attention in him. "Excuse me. I asked you a question", I blurted out.The sudden movement seems to have made an effect on him. He brought his hands to his chest, crossing his legs arrogantly for me to see.The man has to think again if he thinks I'm here to play games. I ignored him and grabbed a towel as I started wiping the top of the bar.His eyes never leaving mine as I continued slapping the te
SOPHIE I had just finished closing up the bar when I noticed the mysterious man sitting alone in the corner. The guy who said his name was Lorenzo. The bar was nearly empty, with only a few patrons remaining."He can't possibly be waiting for me," I muttered to myself as I checked the clock. It was already late and he seemed to be alone. I assumed his friends had left him.I was eager to go home, as my son Miguel had been crying nonstop despite my attempts to calm him down. "Hey, shh. Mama's here for you. I'll never leave you," I whispered to him. Even though he couldn't yet speak, I knew he could understand my words as he gradually quieted down.I watched as the remaining patrons stood up and left, leaving the mysterious man as the only one left in the bar. I grabbed Miguel's things and walked over to him. He appeared to be deeply asleep, his head nodding forward.I gently tapped his shoulder. "Hello, wake up sleepyhead," I said.He didn't stir, so I picked up the jug of water on th
. . . We stopped halfway along the road that leads to my host's house as I intentionally told him to stop the car and he did. I wasted no time in climbing down and slamming the door gently behind me for I didn't want to let him know where I lived. Since he was an enigmatic man, he should use his mysterious ways to trace her location if he really required her help. I thought, inwardly. "Thanks for today," I said and grabbed my things. "My pleasure. Remember... Tomorrow it is," he endeavoured to remind for the hundredth time through the window. I could only shake my head as I watched him speed off until he was out of sight. I turned and walked down the empty narrow streets. I stopped as I saw my friend waving from afar and I reciprocated, waving back too with an angel three-sixty smile apparently clear on my face. It was pretty obvious I was blissful with today's activities, although not entirely. I thought, remembering the casanova of a man and his pesterings. Valentina ran to
. . . "So, let's do this. Pretend we're married for a year. You'll be my wife and your son will be my child. But you'll abide by my rules and in return... I will provide shelter for you and your son and l will find your long-last seen father for you. How do you see that sweetheart?" He asked ever so proudly. I waited as if I was meditating on his offer. "What's your reply honey? Cause l don't have all the time in the world." He asked again. I shook my head against the idea. "I don't need protection of any kind from you. I can protect my son and l." I replied after much consideration. My boy who has impeccable timing woke up and started crying on top of his little voice. "Hush my baby boy... I'm right here," I said adjusting in my seat and tapping his butt, lightly. Lorenzo used the situation to his advantage. "You know you should take my offer, Ms. Holland isn't a place where a single Mum can live alone. As I see it... you won't last a week here without any man by your side. Mo
..."Young lady...How may I help you? I heard from my boy you were asking of me." He said in his deep baritone voice. The man standing before me was huge, 5-foot-nine inches tall and exuded this inexplicable aura of wealth around him. He was casually dressed, neatly. There was no denying the kind of power he wielded, after all, with richness comes power."I'm sorry for the inconvenience, sir. I just need a minute of your time." When he said nothing, just obviously observing me, I added. "Just a minute. I'd like to ask a few questions regarding my father. I hope you don't mind?" I asked, lastly. He stared at me like the gutsy stranger I was for being able to come into his domain, uninvitedly. Not everyone who knows him could do so. He thought, inwardly. "I don't see a reason to refuse. You can have a sit." He motioned her to the seat next to her."Thanks," I said, making myself comfortable in the seat as he simply sat at the chair adjacent to mine."I have to say how surprised I was
...Who the fudge are you and why the fuck are you following her?" He asked, shooting daggers at him.He added more pressure on his throat as he didn't answer immediately. He liked it when people responded to his questions without even blinking. All his life he'd been served and answered to. This man won't be different. He thought, inwardly. The douchebag didn't know who he was messing with. If he'd known he was playing with the almighty Lorenzo who derives great pleasure in fist fights just as much as he loves philandering with women. He should better start talking or his patient will run thin and he'd lose it."So, I will ask again for the last time. What. Do. You. Want. From. Her? You better start talking, douchebag! You won't like to see the other side of me. One I'm desperately trying to keep under control." He growled, tightening his grip but the dickhead got off his face by snickering. He lost it there and then as he gave him a strong right hook to his throat, cutting off his
..."We're here," he said and parked the car. He opened the door and stepped out. He unlocked mine, yanked off my seat belt and hauled me out.I didn't fight him even as he dragged me in. He stopped in front of his door, unlocked it with his key card and pushed me inside. Asshole. I could have landed on my knees if I didn't have some stamina, and then my child could have been hurt. God knows I almost lashed out before I breathed, trying to keep my anger at bay. I studied the interior of the simple but massive house, my eyes looking for another exit way since he'd already locked the one we came in with. He took just one step closer to me. I didn't cower as I kept eye contact to know what he was thinking of doing. Would he tell me to strip naked or dance around the whole building, nude? Is that the kind of sick fetish he had? I couldn't put that beneath him. However, he surprised me, entirely. "It's been a long day. I'll show you the way to your room," he said and told me to follo
