Chapter 4

I calmly picked up the agreement, flipped through a couple of pages, then tore the entire thing to shreds.

“Issac, you want me to hand Shaw Corporation over to a loser who had to buy her way into college? You think you’re worthy of making that decision?”

“What the hell are you talking about?!” Josephine shrieked like a cat whose tail had been stepped on.

“I’m tired.” I completely ignored her outburst, walking straight past them toward the stairs.

“Where’s my room? Don’t try to fob me off with a maid’s quarters. I want the main bedroom on the south side of the second floor.”

It was my mother’s room. Alice was living in it now.

“Like hell you will! That’s my room!” Alice screamed, completely losing her temper.

“Put her in the guest room!” Issac’s face turned livid as he forced down his anger and instructed the butler.

“Meredith, you have three days to think it over. Josephine’s celebration banquet will be on Saturday. If you haven’t signed before the banquet starts, I’ll call an ambulance and have you taken straight into a psychiatric hospital!”

I did not turn around. I merely said over my shoulder, “Fine. I’ll be waiting.”

Once I reached my room, I locked the door behind me. I pulled out a specially encrypted satellite phone from an inner pocket.

Mr. Grant’s men had hidden it for me in Clearwater Town before I left.

I started a video call. Bryan’s serious, sharply composed face immediately appeared on the screen.

“Ms. Shaw.” He lowered his head respectfully.

“Mr. Grant, did you find anything?” I walked to the window and stared at the skyscrapers belonging to Shaw Corporation in the distance. My expression was cold and decisive.

“We’ve uncovered everything, and it’s worse than we imagined.” Bryan pushed up his gold-rimmed glasses. His voice was thick with restrained anger.

“Over the past 14 years, Issac abused his position as acting chairman. He established eleven shell companies and used fake projects to illegally siphon nearly six billion dollars from the group into his private offshore accounts.

“That’s not all. The tens of millions he and Alice have blown on luxury goods and jewelry over the years were all charged to the company.

“As for Josephine…” Bryan pulled up another file. “We got Josephine’s actual answer sheet from the college entrance exam. It’s more than enough to expose her.”

“Good job.” I let out a cold laugh.

“There’s one more thing, Ms. Shaw.”

Bryan’s expression darkened even further.

“Our security department tracked down the men who attacked your adoptive parents. We’ve already detained them. They confessed that Josephine paid them a hundred grand to break that old man’s leg. All the bank transfers and chat logs have been preserved as admissible evidence.”

My heart clenched when I heard that.

Once again, I saw the image of my adoptive father’s leg encased in plaster and my adoptive mother’s bloodied face.

A vicious fury surged from the depths of my chest, burning through every last trace of restraint.

“Mr. Grant.” I closed my eyes and took a slow, deep breath. When I opened them again, all that remained was a chilling, deathly calm.

“It’s time to close the net. Freeze all of Issac’s secret offshore accounts and every credit card under Alice’s name. As for the celebration banquet at the Grand Regent Hotel this Saturday…”

I looked straight into the camera and issued my order, “Bring the entire legal team. I’m going to reclaim everything that belongs to me in front of every powerful family in the capital, and make them pay for every drop of blood they’ve spilled.”
