VIENNE'S POV

An hour and a few minutes had passed before I let out a big exhale. And I believe I was done giving and explaining all key points of the topic to Calloway, so I pushed the jotter fully to his side.

“There. Take another close look and point out wherever you're not clear with, okay?” I mumbled out tiredly before grabbing my cellphone; 6:10pm said the time.

Somehow, I don't feel the need to hurry off. I glanced at Damon who has that frown on again, that one when he's seriously trying to assess or get something stuck in his head. So far, he's doing good and that keeps me wondering how his grades have been going down these years. If he could keep up with this pace or higher, the grades could be telling a different tale at the end of the year.

My eyes strayed away from his form to the whole room again. The apartment is humble enough; not too big or too small, but it was cozy enough which had the tiny feeling of envy run through me.

It was way in contrast to mine which is extra spacious; not complaining, but the emptiness in the atmosphere that peeks out sometimes, back home had me comparing and coveting.

Tch.

What a life.

I lightly shook my head at my predicament in self-pity.

Curiosity nibbled at me upon realizing that the apartment only has pictures of himself and Dawn. Nothing about his parents. Nothing was giving away that there's the presence of any guardian and they both don't seem to be expecting their arrival.

Perhaps, out of town?

I was about to ask when Dawn sashayed over..

“Damon, I'm hungry. What are we having for dinner?”

Damon exhaled before pinching his eyes, clearly tired before they found mine.

Just at that moment, my tummy chose to let out an embarrassing rumble and he tilted his head slightly at me in amusement.

“Heard that?!” Dawn squealed out excitedly, murdering my chance to get embarrassed “Vienne is hungry too, we could have dinner together. We'll be waiting for Damon.” She turned to me grabbing my arm, “let's watch a movie while we wait for dinner. Have you met Choki?”

“Nope. Who's that?” I let her pull me over to the sofa and I could feel someone giving us a dark look.

Oh! Look at that. It's our grumpy chef.

I threw him a nod to hurry along to the kitchen and get started.

“It's our cat. My ginger cute cat” Dawn answered with a giggle. “Choki?!!” She called out.

A few minutes passed and food was ready. Here I was sitting at their dining table of four, staring at the bowl of several hot toasts, enough sauce and a jug of watermelon juice. I looked around while savouring the aroma, unbeknownst to me, my long stare and silence seemed to be creating a wrong thought in Damon.

“What? Not to your liking?” Damon's resigned voice rang out, though measured.

“No. It's okay”

“Then eat.” he grumbled out at me and that had me tipping down my lips at him in displeasure.

“Stop giving our guest an attitude, Damon.” Dawn had sourly spoken up for me which earned us an unbelievable scoff from him before he returned to setting the table, getting the plates.

He carefully placed toasts on our plates before feeling the other with sauce.

“Enough?” He asked and I found myself reaching for my plate while nodding absentmindedly at him. I was hungry.

I devoured the meal while mentally commending his little culinary skill. I found myself reaching for more and helping myself and Dawn with the juice.

Holding the last piece, I delved into the thought of when last I've had proper family dinner; no siblings and my parents were always away after staying for a few days.

Pathetic.

“It's getting late Reyes, I'll take you home when you're done and ready” Damon's voice rasped out to me.

***************

The next day came fast.

So did school.

It was break, but I found myself sitting in the classroom with a few other students, not hungry and in the mood to leave my seat. I scribbled a few mathematical equations on my notes, my mind occasionally drifting off to yesterday evening at Calloway’s apartment.

‘will you come over again?’ Dawn had hopefully asked while grabbing onto my hand. And I nodded with slight uncertainty.

What if I don't get to go over again?

My thoughts were cut short by a condescending scoff. It was stripping.

I looked up to find Ryan staring down at me and I almost choked on my saliva. When he walked over, I didn't know. For a moment, I couldn't help getting nervous and trying to splutter out something.

Amelia and a friend of hers stood a few feet away from my seat, watching. Along with Seth.

The smug look on Ryan's face as he contemptuously looked down at me was tearing at my heart and twisting daggers into it. It was stripping my pride.

I fought back the urge to break down before I opened my mouth with a cracked voice. “D_Do you_”

“So, that's all you are…” he began. He chuckled, his hands were stuck in his pockets and his arrogance was almost paralyzing me. “I knew you were all bluffing. What's your point in going out with that Scholarship kid when you're still pathetically hung up on me, huh?”

I bit down on my lips. He was painfully right but him saying it like this was humiliating. The other students were paying attention to us.

“I couldn't believe my ears when I heard the Reyes couple came over to our home…” he mockingly said in a sing-song. Dramatically.

His statement had me snapping up at him. “What are you talking about?”

“Stop pretending. Didn't you ask your parents to come over to beg so we could get back together?”

And that had my scalp itching in instant humiliation. Blood rushed to my face because there was a high chance of it being true. But still…I frowned.

“That's a lie” I rushed out. “You're lyi_”

“You should just preserve your dignity by shutting it. You sent your parents over to our house to grovel.” He laughed. “Aren't you full of surprises Vienne Reyes? I couldn't believe my ears when my mom told me.”

Another laughter harshly cut through the classroom. Amelia's.

She cackled out with her friend as they mocked. Again

Even seated on the chair, I felt like the floor could swallow me. The world tilted and I watched as the other students’ attention sucked on the juicy information.

“No. That's not true…”

“Tell that to yourself till you'd believe it…” his voice which drew out in mirth drifted from my hearing. So as other noises.

I want to go home…

VIENNE’S POVWe lost.Minerva's high lost the game. The students’ quietly gossiped in vexation. They carefully whispered still as though they were wronged but still afraid of saying so much about the game but I had already heard just enough about it.The school team lost to star's academy because of the soccer's quarterback. The information had me frowning; if anything Ryan was a good soccer player, but how he had been the reason for the lost game was beyond me and I couldn't even ask anyone. All I know is, yesterday's evening with Dawn made my Day. A sigh of content escaped my lips as fragments of the shopping hangout came into my mind again and I envisioned how it would have been with a kid sister around.“Afternoon class!!” A laughter boomed after greeting. “How has your day been? I hope you all are ready for your project work, huh??!” Mr Kenneth's uncouthly announced as he entered the class just as usual and that had me rolling my eyes. One, I'm sure no one in the class is excited

  • Fake it Till You Love Me   30. Game with wandering mind

3rd person's POV True to his words, at 6:35, Vienne found herself standing before the gate to her house. Damon had dropped her off without a word. And she watched as the bike sped off. They had set out this early in hopes of Vienne having enough time to properly get prepared for school. It's not even at a girl's place, but she found herself secretly entertaining the idea of having another sleepover. Maybe this time, it will be planned. By her.The gatekeeper opened the gate.“Miss Reyes?” His shock could not be hidden as he was obviously not expecting her there by that time. She stepped into the compound, mentally preparing herself for her mom's questions and her own answer. Well, she was at a friend's place to sleep over, it was unplanned ‘cause of the rain…**************Two days have passed since the sleepover, and here she was again. At Minerva's high cafeteria. She wasn't eating though.Vienne stared blankly at nothingness with folded arms while her legs which were crossed at

VIENNE’S POV.“1! 2!”“1! 2!”The cheerleading call nasally rang through the court. Painfully. But we had bo choice than to ignore the damage of the voice and obey the calls instead. Unfortunately, Amelia had been the leader of the cheerleading team; I'd give it to her, she was good at this things but not me. I wouldn't have even bothered to be in a group where she is the leader but I had badly wanted to cheerlead whenever Ryan is on the field, rather than cheering as a spectator. Hence, since last semester, I had no choice than to be at the girl's mercy whenever it was time for practice. Here, she's got to feed her ego making her feel bigger. The female cheerleading coach stood a few feet from us, watching and observing. But I was watching and observing something else, right on the same court, the basketball practice was going on. My eyes subconsciously and shamelessly follow the familiar athletic figure running around with a bouncing ball.“Vienne Reyes?! Please focus!” Amelia snapp

3rd person POVThe passing seconds seems to drive Alex Monroe into annoyance, but he only kept grunting and huffing so himself. His own dropped and he picked it; right on his way back to sitting up, he found those groups of students gathered together still blatantly staring at him. If they're going to gossip, they could at least be discreet about it. These ones seemed not to care.“What are you looking at?” He almost snapped at them.“How were you able to see us?” One of them replied right back in the same tone. But he couldn't be bothered about them. Two girls seated together some desks away would also stare at him, whisper to themselves while giggling at him. It was annoying, he wasn't a new student for crying out loud!Someone else seemed to have also seen the two girls were admiring him and she wasn't going to take it lightly.Amelia Dawn.Watching those students gather and openly gossip about Alex hadn't bothered him; they would get tired and leave. But those two girls? No way fo

  • Fake it Till You Love Me   27. Big and balding

DAMON'S POVAlex fucking Monroe, huh?The energy he gave is quite unsettling. Paying to get your classroom switched again? That shouldn't be a big deal, but it somehow annoyed me.Even after having his seat the lanky fellow kept looking back at my row. At Reyes, precisely; and that had me pursing my lips in slight edginess. My last impression of him, carelessly gripping her in the corridor wasn't paying off.Reyes…What was it about her having to drag chaos and drama along with her without even knowing?, And sometimes, knowingly? I almost let out an amused laughter.I glanced up towards the front of the class in my lame attempt to listen to the teacher, but my eyes fell on Amelia Dawn who was shamelessly and blatantly craning and straining her neck backward to stare at Alex Monroe. It went on for seconds and it was beginning to seem creepy.Tch. All the best for Monroe.Unintentionally and with a small scowl, my gaze fell on her seat partner and I looked away as fast as possible, glan

VIENNE'S POVI stepped out of the classroom glancing around. On my left, Ryan strolled down the corridor with Shawn and on my right, Damon's rigid figure walked towards the restroom. Subconsciously, I found myself running after him.“Calloway!”I reached for his hand upon getting close and he paused before turning fully to me.*What? You're going to follow me to the restroom too now?” His voice was gravelly and that confirmed that he was angry; the thought of him being annoyed with me made me uncomfortable.I exhaled “did I do something wrong? You seem annoye_”“Me being annoyed should not be your business, though. But if we're going to continue with all these, I feel some lanes should be maintained.”I frowned, a slight pang of pain gripping my heart. I licked my lips. His eyes narrowed down on me, not in a contemptuous way. The aura he oozed was controlled.Measured.Like he was reprimanding a kid.“Just say what I did.”“The deal is between us Calloway, except if necessary I don't
