Why should I lie to them?”He stepped closer to me, so close I could feel his warmth. But his eyes were far away, like he was thinking about something else, somewhere else. Riley had told me that his parents would be coming, but he hadn’t told me much else. The door opened, and Riley stepped in. He looked at me for a moment, his eyes soft but unreadable. “You look… beautiful,” he said, though I could see the worry in his eyes. Chapter 1 – Annie’s POV Dissapointment The cold night air touched my skin as I walked along the border of the Silvermoon Pack. The moon was low in the sky, giving a soft light to the dark trees around me. I had done this many times before—watching, listening, making sure no danger entered our land. But tonight, something felt wrong. I pushed the bad feeling away and tried to mind-link my mate Caleb, the future Alpha. Caleb? I called through the link. No answer. I frowned. He ignored me often, but this time, the silence felt strange. I tried again. Caleb, I’m at the border. Is everything okay? Suddenly, a sharp pain hit my head like fire burning through my mind. I gasped, my vision going blurry as the pain got worse. It felt like something inside me was being torn apart—like my wolf was being taken away from me. Then, everything went dark. When I woke up, my head throbbed. My body was sprawled on the cold ground, my limbs weak. Panic shot through me as I tried to reach out to

Chapter 2 – Riley’s POV The New Visitor The night was quiet, but my mind wasn’t. I sat at my desk, scanning over reports from the patrol teams. The tension between our pack, the Riley Pack, and the Silvermoon Pack had only grown worse over the past few months. Limited resources meant more competition, and competition always led to conflict. Our warriors were on high alert, and so was I. A sudden mind-link from one of my warriors broke my focus. Alpha, someone from Silvermoon is here. They’re asking to see Henry. I frowned, already shaking my head. Send them away. The last thing I needed was to deal with someone from that pack right now. There was a pause before the warrior responded. It’s a woman, Alpha. She looks exhausted. And… I think you should come see for yourself. Something about his voice made me hesitate. My wolf stirred inside me, restless, as if sensing something important. I pushed back from my desk and left the office, making my way toward the entrance of the pack

It had been too long since I heard her voice, and I was starting to feel like a part of me was missing. A faint warmth brushed against my mind, weak but there. Annie… A small smile tugged at my lips. I’m here, Mariana. Just hold on, okay? But before she could respond— The connection was cut off. Sharp. Sudden. Like a knife slicing through our bond. I gasped, my eyes flying open. What just happened? I sat up, gripping the edge of the bathtub. It wasn’t Mariana who pulled away. Something—no, someone—had severed our link. My stomach twisted. Riley. Riley wasn't the type of guy you could just approach and say, Hey, sorry I was an asshole. No way. He was Alpha-strong, proud, and not the type of man who handed out his feelings on a silver platter. I had no idea what to do. Part of me said, Just leave him be. Why did I even care what he believed about me? We were never friends. We weren't even supposed to meet.
