LOGINHAZEL POV
Two weeks had passed, and the world I knew was completely shattered. I was barely sleeping, balancing Killian's insane demands with my own classes. Winter and Mila had given me an earful when I went back to the dorm that morning two weeks ago. “Hazel, wait up.” Conner caught up with me outside the library, falling into step beside me. “You look like you haven’t slept in forever,” he said. “Just classes. Been reading the syllabus for English class.” “You actually read the entire syllabus?” Conner laughed, shifting his backpack. “I had to,” I said, forcing a smile. “If I fail this midterm, my scholarship is toast. Unlike some people, I can’t just buy my way out of a bad grade.” “Hey, I don’t buy my grades. I charm the professors. Big difference.” Conner stepped off the curb, walking backward to face me. He kept a respectful distance. He didn’t grab my wrist or crowd me. He just talked to me like a normal person. “Seriously, though, if you need a study partner, I’m free Thursday.” “Thursday might work,” I murmured. With Conner, I wasn’t afraid. I was just Hazel. Conner stopped. His smile faded, his eyes shifting past my shoulder toward the library. I turned around. My stomach dropped. Killian was leaning against a stone pillar, his hands in his pockets, staring straight at me. Killian finally pushed off the pillar, walking straight toward us. He didn’t even look at Conner. He just wrapped his fingers firmly around my elbow, pulling me to his side. “We’re leaving.” “She was in the middle of a conversation,” Conner said, his voice steady. “And she doesn’t belong to you, Killian. Let go of her arm.” Killian chuckled, a low, dangerous sound. “What did you just say to me?” “You heard me,” Conner said, taking a step forward. “If you’re so tough, why do you only show it by pulling girls around? See you at the underground tonight? Or are you only brave when it comes to her?” Killian’s jaw clenched. “Midnight. Don’t die before you get there.” His eyes found me. “If you don’t show up, I will beat him to a pulp. I will see you there, both of you.” ********* The underground was loud, with students chanting and some betting on who would be their next champion. Conner stepped into the ring, taping his knuckles. He found me in the crowd and gave me a small nod. Suddenly, a hand gripped the back of my neck. Killian leaned down, his lips brushing against my ear. “Don’t look away,” Killian growled, his breath warm against my skin. “You only look at me. You watch what happens when someone touches what’s mine. If you move an inch, I’ll make it worse for him. Understand?” I couldn’t breathe. I just nodded. “Please don’t do this,” I whispered. Killian didn’t answer. He let go of my neck and climbed over the ropes. The bell rang. Conner moved first, landing a quick jab that cut Killian’s cheek. Killian didn’t even flinch. He wiped the blood away, a dark grin spreading across his face. I don’t remember most of the fight. I remember the sound of fists flying, the crowd screaming numbers, someone’s blood hitting the concrete. I remember not being able to look away even when I wanted to because he’d told me not to, and some small, terrified part of me still listened. Conner went down. He didn’t get back up. “Get up!” Killian mocked. “You had a lot to say on campus!” He turned and found me instantly in the crowd, and walked straight toward me like nothing else in the room existed. “Let’s go,” he said, and it wasn’t a question. I shook my head. He grabbed my wrist in a crushing grip and dragged me through the crowd. I stumbled behind him, tears blurring my vision as medical students rushed to Conner. “Let go of me!” I cried as we hit the cold night air outside. Killian didn’t say a word. He shoved a helmet onto my head, forced me onto the back of his motorcycle, and sped away into the dark. We rode for miles into the dense woods until the bike skidded to a halt in front of an isolated cottage. Killian cut the engine. He ripped his helmet off, pulled me off the bike, and dragged me inside. He slammed the heavy wooden door shut, locking it. “Are you insane?” I screamed, ripping my arm out of his grip. I backed away, my heart hammering. “You almost killed him! He didn’t do anything to you!” “He touched you,” Killian snapped, towering over me. His eyes flashed with dangerous fire. “He looked at you like he had a right to be there. You are mine, Hazel. How many times do I have to beat that into your head?” “I am not your property!” I yelled back, tears finally spilling over my cheeks. I took another step back, but my back hit the cold stone wall. There was nowhere left to run. “I’m a human being! He treated me like a person! You just treat me like a toy, a slave!” Killian closed the distance between us in a single stride. He slammed both hands against the wall on either side of my head, trapping me. “A toy?” Killian whispered, his voice dropping low. His eyes locked onto my lips, then tracked back up to my eyes. His chest heaved. “If you were just a toy, I wouldn’t be losing my mind like this. If you were just a toy, I wouldn’t want to burn the whole campus down just to keep you safe in here.” I laughed coldly. “Keep me safe? When you’re the monster who has been terrorizing me since high school? When you’ve made my life here miserable, and you’re talking about safety to me? You’re a monster, Killian, and you’re the danger people need to stay away from.” He leaned in closer, his forehead almost touching mine, a terrifying, suffocating spark of tension igniting between us. “Don’t look at other guys, Hazel,” he muttered, his thumb reaching out to wipe a tear from my cheek. “Because next time, I will show you how much of a monster I am.”KILLIAN POVI didn't wait for her to recover. My hand curled around her waist as I pulled her with me through the backstage. The girls there whispered how lucky she was to be with me. No shit, I’m the lucky one. I pulled her outside towards my car. The shock must have worn off because she shouted out,"Killian, let go of me!"I ignored her and opened the car door. “Get in.”“What the hell do you think you’re doing? You know what, I will forget about this act of yours tonight. Right now, I need to find Winter so we can get the hell out of here.”I let her walk away. She almost made it inside till I pulled her back and threw her over my shoulder."Put me down, you psychopath! Let me go!" She screamed.I threw her inside the car the same time her friend came outside, shouting, “Hazel!”“Winter, help!” My girl shouted.I pulled the car out and drove off with her friend shouting Hazel's name."Are you completely out of your mind?" Hazel screamed again. “I need to get back to Winter. Let me
HAZEL POV“Let go of me! I told you I didn't audition for this!” I screamed. “I said let go, you overgrown big bastards!”“Shut up and stay in line, forty-six,” the larger guard barked again.“There's been a mistake! Check the system again!” I pleaded, my voice cracking with pure panic as tears blurred my vision. “My name shouldn't be on that list! Let me out of here!”None of the girls even looked at me. If anything, they were delighted to be here. Sick people. They kept on calling numbers, and the girls one by one walked out. I heard them bidding, and this is really sick. Are we bags of chips or what? Always listen to your damn guts, Hazel.“Entry number forty-two, you're up,” a female yelled, clicking her pen.A tall brunette stepped forward, the heavy curtains parting as she walked out onto the main stage. The second she stepped out, a deafening roar erupted.“Alright, gentlemen!” the student MC’s voice boomed over the loudspeakers. “Let’s keep the numbers climbing! Bidding for nu
HAZEL POVFriday night arrived far too quickly. Winter spent two hours tearing through her closet before turning on me, forcing me out of bed and into a fitted dark green dress that I didn't even remember owning. I tried to argue, but she wasn't having it."We are going, Hazel," she insisted. "You promised me, and besides, what would you be doing here? Thinking? Or studying? You’re 20, you gotta live."“Why do I have a feeling I’m gonna regret this?” I sighed.“Oh, please stop whining like an old woman. Now shoo.” She pushed me towards the door.An hour later, the bass from the speakers pounded through my heels as we stepped into the private campus theater. I almost didn’t recognize the place. It had been turned into a fancy ballroom, like something straight out of a movie. We were offered masks, and we slipped them on and went inside the hall.“Wow.”“I know, right?” Winter giggled.Winter grabbed champagne for both of us, and I took a sip. “So what exactly do they do here?”“You wil
HAZEL POV“I’m telling you it’s true,” Conner said, sliding a chip into his mouth.Winter leaned forward. “What exactly is going on in this campus? First someone sent her a bloody parcel, secondly a video of it was cast all over the place, and thirdly the said video just disappeared. This is really becoming a problem.”“Maybe it’s Killian.” Conner shrugged. “He might be doing it to taunt you. Guy is a menace.”“Aha, I said the same thing, and she was all like, ‘Oh, that’s not his way.’” Winter shook her head at me.“Sorry to say, Hazel, he’s the only one that has been bothering you around here, not to say he almost beat me to death, so yeah, my bet’s on him.”“I already apologized for that,” I mumbled. He stood and patted my shoulder. “And I already said it’s fine. It was not your fault. But whatever happens, you gotta stay clear of him. He’s bad news.” He kissed Winter on the cheek and left us alone in the cafe.“Are you two a thing now?” I smiled at her.“Maybe.” She blushed.I laug
KILLIAN POVI slammed the door to my room shut, my body vibrating with anger.“You will be back here on your knees one day, mark my words.” His words rang in my head.“Never,” I muttered. I stripped off my clothes and walked into the bathroom, turning on the shower to wash the day’s exhaustion off my body.I leaned my head flat against the cold tiles, ran my hand through my face, wondering exactly how I’m going to keep Hazel away from all this.I shut the water off, wrapped a towel around my waist, and walked back into the bedroom. I stopped to see my Mum sitting on my bed.“Killian, baby,” she whispered. “This was not how I pictured this night to go. You shouldn't have talked that way to your father. You shouldn't have hit him, my boy. You know how he gets when people challenge his authority.”“I don't give a damn about his authority, Mum. Ain’t you tired of all this shit?”She let out a slow, heavy sigh. “He’s still your father, my husband. He just wants what’s best for you and your
KILLIAN POVIdling around at the biker lot, I kept staring at my phone, waiting for Mitch to miraculously call. I know it’s not even been a day, but I’m not a patient man.I took my eyes off it for a moment, and it rang. I looked, but it was my mum, not Mitch.“Hello, my boy.”“Mum.”“How are you doing, baby?”“I’m good, Mum. Why did you call?” I know it breaks her heart when I shut her out, but I can’t help it.“Your father wants you back home,” she said in a low voice.I slammed my palm against my bike’s handle. I knew her calling got something to do with that man. “It’s been over a week and he’s still at it? I told the old man I'm busy. Tell him to go to hell.”“Killian, please,” she pleaded down the line. “Don't hang up. I know how much you don’t get along with your father. But you need to come home, hear him out, please. Just for one night.”“He has nothing to say that I want to hear.”“It’s not just about him, baby,” she whispered, her voice cracking slightly. “It’s also about m
