I’m so nervous. Not exactly for myself, but for Adonis. My stomach wouldn’t stop twisting, like I had swallowed an entire gymnastics team or a contortionist.

“Is it out yet?” he asked for what had to be the tenth time in three minutes. He paced up and down my room, one hand in his hair, the other tapping restlessly against his leg.

“No, two more minutes,” I said, staring at my laptop screen as if my eyes could force the results to appear faster.

The test results would be announced any moment now, and the weight of it sat like a brick on both of us. Adonis needed to pass and not just pass, but hit at least 80% because his father decided basketball was only for ‘high achievers who don’t embarrass the family.’ His words, not mine.

Meanwhile, Adonis was sweating like he just did a thousand reps of planks.

“I can’t breathe,” he muttered, stopping suddenly. “Caitlin, I can’t breathe. I’m actually dying.”

“You’re not dying,” I said rolling my eyes, reaching up to tug him onto my bed before h

  • Falling for the principal's son   CHAPTER 18: The morning after

Chapter 18My eyes opened slowly the next morning. I groaned. I hate mornings so much.Wait.Wait!!!I looked around and saw I was in bed alone. Sheets all rumpled. A big mess.I turned to my clothes on the floor. A reminder of last night. And Adonis? Gone.I scoffed. I'm such a fool.“Shit!” I heard someone say from the kitchen. I raced there and to my surprise, Adonis was fixing breakfast.“You look good in my shirt. I could get used to that. You should keep it.” He said with a smirk on his face as he set the table.“Morning y'all” Dylan said, yawning into the room. He looked me over and then turned to Adonis.“Nice shirt” He said dryly. Adonis turned to me, lust in his eyes like he was visualizing taking the shirt off me. I quickly sat at the table because the moment was getting awkward, especially with Dylan here. “How was your night?” Dylan asked, eyes narrowed in suspicion.“Fine” I said, digging into my scrambled eggs.“Just fine? You seem pretty hungry. Like you WORKED up

  • Falling for the principal's son   CHAPTER 17: Running back

How could I be so dumb? I thought as I lay in bed, my pillow soaked with tears.Did I really, even for a second think Adonis and I were a thing?Lmao. What was I thinking? That a kiss meant something to him?Of course not.I was just… convenient. Something to pick up and drop whenever he felt like it.“Hey, Cait. Are you good in there?” Dylan’s voice came through the door.Since the disaster at Adonis’ place, I hadn’t left my room.“I’m fine,” I lied.“Do you… want me to bring dinner?”“No.”“Okay. Lola and I are going out tonight. Please lock the doors.”“Yeah. Bye.”“Bye.”The apartment fell silent. At some point, I must have cried myself to sleep. The banging on my bedroom door jerked me awake.Crap. I didn’t lock the door.“Caitlin?” a voice called…low, tense, familiar.Too familiar.Oh no.“Caitlin, I know you’re in there.”Adonis.“Go away,” I said, my voice dry and broken.“I need to talk to you.”I scoffed. “Great. I’m not interested.”“You know I’m trying to be nice,” he said

  • Falling for the principal's son   CHAPTER 16: Avoidance

My eyes had barely opened and I already knew it was going to be a bad day. I could smell one of those days where the air feels wrong before anything even happens. Maybe it was the sleep I barely got, or the fact that I spent half the night staring at my phone like it owed me answers. I tried calling Adonis several times, hoping he’d pick up on the sixtieth ring but he declined every single call until he eventually switched off his phone completely.I checked again this morning.Still nothing. No missed calls. No texts. No “good morning.” No sarcastic “wake up, nerd.”Absolute silence.I dragged myself out of bed and got ready for school, replaying every conversation we had yesterday, searching for what I might’ve said wrong. The more I thought about it, the more frustrated and confused I became. When I finally stepped outside, I took a deep breath. The air smelled like early morning dew… and quietness… mixed with a little bit of despair. Like the world itself was warning me to brace

  • Falling for the principal's son   CHAPTER 14: Games

CHAPTER 14 While Dylan and Clay were being loud cavemen as usual, yelling at the TV and smacking each other with throw pillows like overgrown toddlers, I sat curled in the corner of the room with a burger in hand. My living room was chaos, controller wires everywhere, empty snack wrappers on the floor, empty drink cans, Clay yelling like he was being murdered every time he lost a round. The usual.I took another bite of my burger and checked the time on my phone. Ash had gone to the supermarket about twenty minutes ago. Knowing her, she was probably arguing with a cashier or getting distracted by make up she absolutely didn’t need.A soft knock sounded at the door, so gentle I almost didn’t notice it through the noise.“Keep it down!” I yelled, dragging myself off the couch.“Okay, Grandma,” Clay teased, and they both burst into laughter. Absolute children.I rolled my eyes and opened the door.Adonis stood there. He looked… small. Not physically. No one that tall could look small…b

  • Falling for the principal's son   CHAPTER 13: Test day

Test dayyyyyyyyy.I barely slept last night. I couldn't even wait for my alarm to ring as my eyes swung open an hour before. I sat up, grabbed my textbook, and tried to do one last revision even though the words looked like tiny ants marching across the page. After a quick breakfast I got ready and practically raced to school. The early morning air was cold against my skin, but it didn’t help calm my nerves. I just needed to get to Adonis… and the rest of my study group. I spotted him leaning against a bench under a tree. His head was bowed, fingers tugging anxiously at the hem of his hoodie. The moment he lifted his eyes to mine, I knew he was nervous. Very nervous.“Hey,” I said, placing a gentle hand on his arm. “Calm down. You’ll be fine.”He tried to smile but failed. He only nodded, jaw clenched tight. We headed inside to meet the study group. Everyone was on edge, some muttering equations under their breath, some flipping pages so fast the paper sounded like wings fluttering.
