~ Luke ~

The mansion doors closed behind me with a soft thud. I walked upstairs toward my bedroom, but when I reached the hallway, I suddenly stopped.

My eyes narrowed. Right there on the white floor leading toward my mother’s bedroom, I saw a trail of faint dark, wet footprints. The footprints disappeared around the corner, leaving dirty marks across the white floor before stopping directly in front of my mother’s bedroom door.

A dark feeling ran through my body. I walked quietly down the hall

“What is there left to explain?!” Leah shouted, her voice shaking with pain. She pushed herself up from the floor and stumbled back as if being near me hurt her. Her face was red, and her eyes were swollen from crying.“Tell me, Gab. If you hadn’t been caught on the news tonight, would you ever have told me the truth?!” she screamed, her voice breaking with pain. “Now everything makes sense! Everything! How you found me at the villa that night. How you suddenly became so good to me and cared for me like you had known me for years, while I knew nothing about you!”Seeing the distance between us, her parents quickly moved closer. Mrs. Steven wrapped her arms around Leah’s shaking shoulders, while Mr. Steven stood beside her with one hand resting on her back.My heart pounded hard. I looked into the eyes of the woman I loved, but she felt farther away from me than ever.“So… you never trusted me?” I asked softly. “After everything we went through? After all the moments we shared… you sti

“We aren’t asking you to believe us!” Mrs. Steven pleaded. “Believe what you saw! Believe the video! Only this man knows where Adam is. He has kept your little brother locked up without food or water!”She reached a hand toward Leah.“Please, Leah. Move away from him and come to your mother. Let the police handle this before he hurts you too!”Mr. Steven quickly turned toward the police officers. His voice became loud and urgent.“Officers! Please arrest these two criminals and save my daughter before he takes her hostage or manipulates her again!”The heavy boots of the officers hit the floor as five of them stepped forward together. Their guns were still pointed straight at Daniel and me. Bright red laser dots moved across my forehead and chest, making it clear that they were ready to shoot if we made the wrong move.“Miss Leah,” the lead officer ordered, keeping his gun steady. “Step away from them immediately. Do not put yourself in danger. These men are dangerous.”The room sudde

It was me.I stared at the screen in shock. The man in the video looked exactly like me. His jaw, broad shoulders, eyes, and face were the same. There was no clear difference between us. Anyone watching the video would believe it was me.Then I remembered the night I had secretly entered the Steven family home to look for Leah. My heart pounded as I tried to understand what I was seeing. Before I could think clearly, another video appeared on the news. The new video showed a small room with bare concrete walls. A young boy was tied to a wooden chair in the middle of the room. He was crying and struggling against the ropes, but he couldn’t free himself. The news station had blurred the boy’s face to hide his identity. Behind him stood a person wearing a black ski mask. The masked person held a heavy metal pipe and stood close behind the boy, making the scene look frightening. This wasn’t me. But strangely, the man had almost the same build as me.No. No, this had to be a setup. The vid

The sound of the broken front door had barely faded when bright red laser dots appeared across my chest. I froze for a second, my heart pounding hard as I stared at the officers coming through the shattered doorway.More than five police officers stormed into the living room. They wore heavy black body armor, helmets, gloves, and other protective gear. Their boots thundered across the floor as they spread out and aimed their weapons at us.I slowly raised both hands above my head to show them that I wasn’t a threat. I kept my body still, but none of the officers lowered their weapons. Their guns remained pointed straight at us, and I knew they were ready to fire if anyone made the wrong move. Before anyone could move, my body reacted without thinking. I reached behind me, grabbed Leah around the waist, and pulled her firmly behind my back. I stepped in front of her, using my body as a shield between her and the guns. If the officers were going to shoot, they would have to get through

~ Gab ~“Obviously Luke killed him! Isn’t it completely obvious already?” Daniel shouted, and anger shook every word that came out of his mouth. “That man had no soul left! He killed his own father!”“I’m not saying you’re wrong, Daniel,” Leah said gently. She folded her arms across her chest and looked from Daniel to me. “But what if there is more to the story than we know?”Daniel opened his mouth to argue, but Leah continued before he could say anything.“Think about the video we just watched,” she said, stepping slowly toward the middle of the rug. “You saw how Luke acted at first. He clearly did not want to hurt his father. He had a knife in his hand, but he was standing against the wall, shaking. He had a chance to attack his father, but he didn’t. And there was something else he said that we cannot ignore. Luke clearly said he would never kill his dad because of his mother.”She paused for a moment, letting her words sink in.“So we have to ask ourselves something important,” L

Gab stopped pacing and tapped his thumb against his jaw, his eyes narrowing as a clever smile spread across his face. I knew that look. Gab was thinking, and whenever he wore that expression, it usually meant he had found a way around a problem.“No… wait,” Gab said softly, snapping his fingers. “Daniel is actually onto something here. Think about it!”His eyes brightened as he turned toward us. The frustration on his face was gone, replaced by excitement. I frowned at Gab. “What do you mean?” I asked.I couldn’t see how Daniel’s plan could help when we were already worried about Luke finding out about the video. “If we report Luke to the police and present this video, they’ll have no choice but to question him,” Gab explained. “Luke is arrogant, but he’s also paranoid. The moment he’s released, he’ll panic. He’ll rush to cover his tracks from five years ago—check old evidence, visit old graves, or contact his old fixers to make sure nobody talks!”Gab began pacing slowly as he expl
