LOGINAmelia Jones POV
The world was blanketed in a thick layer of white snowballs. The air was cold and still, with only the occasional sound of a distant bird breaking the silence. I gently wrapped my scarf tightly around my neck and stepped outside, wheeling my suitcase through the snowy landscape as I saw Dad standing outside the porch like a statue. I had earlier declined my Dad’s offer to escort me to Dark Wood pack, I didn't want to come off like a helpless little girl and watch him hand me over to the unknown Alpha. So I tossed my suitcase into the black Mercedes and slammed the door forcefully. The Mercedes bounced and creaked in protest and the chauffeur winced from his place behind the wheel.
I hopped into the car, buckled my seatbelt as the deep wound of betrayal festered in my mind. Every curse word known to man and wolf was running through my mind as I crossed my arms over my chest and glanced out the window. I saw my twin sister Freya standing on the porch next to my father looking lost and hopeless. Even from a distance I could see her crimson red swollen eyes leaking out a fresh batch of tears.
She had cried and pleaded with me not to go all through the night but for every one of her pleas, I had to remind myself that I was doing it for her. I had to marry Hades and endure whatever hell comes out of this charade of a union. Freya was soft-hearted and cheerful for this kind of agony, I had to protect her even at the detriment of my happiness. I watched as Freya raised her hand and gave me a small sad wave as the car pulled away. Dad did nothing. He just stood rigidly as if he wasn't sending his daughter to the abyss. Such an unfeeling human.
I brooded through the long drive, lost in my dark thoughts. A few times my hand went to the door handle and I had to suppress the urge to jump from the moving vehicle each time it slowed for a turn. I don’t mind going rogue but the thought of Freya taking my place as Hades’s mate made me refrain from my thoughts.
We slowed down as we approached the gold-plated gate, a mansion loomed above, its stone facade casting long shadows across the lawn. A fountain splashed in the courtyard, surrounded by neatly trimmed hedges.A uniformed warrior leaned into the window to give me a curious stare before he signaled for us to go through. We pulled into the garage, and I sucked in deep breaths trying to suppress my anger and put up a sham serenity of bliss.I saw some men standing on the porch ready to receive me. I mustered up courage and came down from the vehicle before the driver could assist me. I masked my face into a neutral expression, a habit I had learnt to use anytime I feel unease. I kept my shoulders squared as I approached the mansion. The air was thick with the scent of blooming roses and the gurgles of the waterfall filled the air carrying the scent of damp earth.
There was an elderly man with grey hair and a wrinkled face, smiling as if he had won a free lottery. To his left was a tall, well-built young man with brown eyes and a neatly trimmed beard. To the right was a fat not-so-tall man with a cold gaze that pierced into mine like he was trying to stare me into compliance.
Immediately he started descending the stairs, and it dawned on me that he was Alpha Hades, the man my Dad had pushed me off to as my future mate. I felt a sinking sensation in my stomach, it's one thing to be known for evil and then it's another thing to be facially unattractive. I sighed inaudibly and gazed back at him. His eyes scrutinized over my body like I was some sort of parcel waiting to be delivered. “Not so bad, but I expected more from the daughter of Alpha Edward Jones. I guess the pretty face will make up for other lacking places.” He said, with a devilish smirk
“What fixes yours if I may ask?” The words slipped out of my mouth before I could stop them.
The elderly man with grey hair made a choking sound and covered up with a cough in an attempt to hide the fact that he had just laughed at him. He glared at the older man and turned to me, his teeth gritted in annoyance “Young maiden, you’re standing before Alpha Hades and I won't tolerate any form of disrespect from you. So I would advise you to bridle your tongue and only talk when you’re asked to. Bear in mind that failure to keep to these rules, will only put you in harm's way. So the choice is yours.” he turned and walked into the mansion, leaving me and the others to follow behind.
We followed him inside the mansion and it was as if I had been transported into a world of opulence. The grand entrance led to a spacious foyer with a crystal chandelier and a grand staircase curved before me, its marble banister gleaming like alabaster. The living room was decorated with a plethora of artwork and a fireplace that crackled with warmth. He stopped immediately, we got into the living room, and snapped his fingers. Immediately the curtains were drawn and an omega dressed in uniform appeared and kept her head bowed down and her eyes glued to the floor.
“Get her luggage from the car and prepare the late Luna’s chamber for her.” He ordered.
“Why the late Luna’s chamber? Isn't her chamber supposed to be sacred and a safe space for all expectant mothers of the pack? Or are the rules not applicable to Dark Wood Pack?” I asked,
Hades spun around and in a flash, he was in my face, his face darkened, his eyes flashing like a volcano, his hands were clenched at the sides. “How dare you speak when you’re not told? Is it like you can’t control your mouth or you want to get on my goddamn nerves. Let this be the last time you question my authority, Amelia Jones. You might not be so lucky if you try it next time.” He spat, his voice low and venomous.
Hunter I looked up at the hazy sky and wondered if Hera could see what a monster his son had turned to. The outcome of my interaction with him had made me rethink my decision to bestow the Alpha title on him. I had serious doubts about Hades but a tiny part of me still believed that there was still hope and that he would mature and grow in character as well. I shook my head, started walking out of the training ground making my way towards the pack clinic. I walked into the clinic, and from the open window, I saw the young boy who had fallen on the training ground. He was stretched out on the bed in his underwear, with a white bandage wrapped around his leg. “Hey,” I tapped on the slightly opened door to let him know I was there. He turned to me, his eyes wide with surprise and then fear.“Alpha,” He mutteredHe squirmed like he wanted to sit up, but I hurried to his side and pressed his tiny shoulder back into the bed. “No, please relax. I just wanted to see how you are doing.” I
Hades’s POV The sunlight pierced its way to the training ground, plastering the faces of the warriors with an eerie glow, squinting eyes, and a glittering demeanor. It was a perfect day to train and I made sure that no shade was set up for the warriors to seek shelter from except for a tent that was erected for me. I could feel the fierce scorching sun on my head and face, so I quickly moved into the tent while grabbing a cold bottle of water from the cooler that the omegas had prepared for me. While gulping down the water, I check my wristwatch periodically to ensure that the warriors are keeping in pace doing their Wushu taolu combat training. I watched as their clothes were drenched with sweat and their faces red with strain. It was an exquisite and intriguing sight to behold. “Don’t you think the weather is too searing for this spartan training?” I nearly choked on my water, at the voice of that old hag, I still don't understand how he manages to sneak up on me all the time lik
Hunter’s POV My eyes snapped open and I sat up as quickly as I could. My heart was beating rapidly and the room was dark except for the ray of moonlight that penetrated through the window. I gasped for air trying to shake off the haze of sleep as I wondered what woke me up. I listened intently, but the castle was quiet except for the soothing melody of the night cricket. I sighed and was about to go back to sleep when I heard a loud scream as if someone was in trouble. I leaped out of the bed, forgetting my weakened body as I tried to figure out where that sound was coming from and I noticed it was from the opposite chamber in the hallway. I came out of the chamber and pounded on the door but instead of a response, I heard the sound of a muffled cry and soft groaning. I kicked the door forcefully, detaching the latch and immediately the door swung open. I crouched, my eyes searching the darkness, ready to fight the intruders that had infiltrated the castle. My eyes landed on a wom
Amelia’s POV I can't tell why my blood had refused to mix with Hades' lethal blood and continued to drip down between my fingers. I went to the dresser and pulled my hand out of my neck, to inspect the mark he had left there but instead of a neat imprint. I saw a messy tattered hole. Immediately, my wolf snarled, howled, and whimpered. I could tell that she was furious, terrified, and baffled, experiencing different emotions at the same time. This is outrageous!!What Hades did was all shades of wrong. It was a ritual violation of my body and my wolf. Never had it been heard that you put your imprint on someone without seeking their consent first. The act of mates marking each other, is a deep physical and spiritual bond that is done with genuine respect, love, and honour. I knew the marking would eventually take place but I thought it would be a proper ceremony, where we would prepare our wolves mentally then seek each other's consent before he would mark me and I would equally d
Hades’ POV I can’t seem to place it but there was something weird about the way that wrinkled hag was staring at Amelia. I couldn't figure out what was going on in that sick mind of his but for a second he's not really much of a threat knowing he would soon be dead. But why is death not hastening up to claim him? Why was it taking time? I thought by now, he would have been cold dead, and buried six feet below but somehow he kept hanging on like a ghost haunting the castle, silently there in the shadows. I slammed my goblet hard on the table to get their attention, while envisioning the guilty look that would cover Amelia’s face and how everyone would see how much of a wanton that she was.To my surprise, she showed no reaction aside from the little shock that quickly morphed into an irked expression. And the way she turned to glare at me, made me feel like I was being reprimanded like a child. I felt this wave of matronly and intimidating power coming from her aura. I didn't like
Hunter’s POV The hot weather was becoming too scorching for my wrinkled body as I managed to lift my body up from under the laburnum tree that served as a shade to the sun and made my way out of the garden. I was struck with this uneasy feeling like someone was watching me from the castle even when I stopped to check, I wasn't able to see anything from those tinted windows. As I moved out of the garden, it dawned on me that Hades' mate had arrived with the ripples of energy bouncing through the castle. Even though I was weak and dying, one of the blessings of being an Alpha was to still be sensitive to the way the pack responds to a new member. I had faint memories of her from their pack event I attended years ago but no real knowledge of her personality. Knowing that she came from a destitute and ancient pack, she was probably meek and submissive. Exactly what Hades would like. I hated the cringing thought of another woman taking over Hera’s duties and title. I lifted my bowed hea
