Amanda's POV

The first thing i heard was a sharp groan, for a moment, i thought i had imagined it. Maybe my mind was playing a cruel trick on me because of how long i had sat by his hospital bed. But then, it came again, sharp, weak and broken.

"Adam?" My chair scraped across the floor as i moved forward, my hands reaching out for him.

His eyelids fluttered open slowly, like they weighed a thousand pounds. He blinked at the ceiling with visible efforts at first, then the movements sharpened.

"Amanda." He called, his voice cracking, but it was the sweetest and calmest voice I'd heard in weeks.

Tears burned in my eyes before I could stop them, I grabbed his hand, squeezing it tightly. “You’re awake. Oh God, Adam, you’re awake.”

His fingers twitched against mine, faint but deliberate, a ghost of a smile tugged at his lips. "Told you I wouldn’t… leave you alone with all this."
