Amanda’s POV

We stood frozen on the busy sidewalk, cars rushing by, strangers weaving around us. To everyone else, it was just another afternoon in the city. But to me, the world had narrowed down to Adam’s burning eyes and the storm they carried.

"You heard me," I whispered.

He released my shoulders abruptly, pacing a few steps away, his hands digging into his hair. "That bastard thinks he can corner you like that? Like your life is some bargaining chip he can cash in?"

"Adam, please."

He spun back toward me, fury blazing. "No. You don’t get to stand there and make this sound normal. Amanda, he’s manipulating you. Using the trial, using Levi, using your fear."
