Ryan’s POV

The sound of the earth hitting the coffin was deafening.

Each thud moved through my bones, reminding me of the finality I wasn’t ready to accept. My mother, my last anchor, my last true home, was gone.

"She didn’t deserve this," I muttered, jaw clenched, fists tight at my sides. The mourners whispered, their pitying eyes like knives cutting into me.

Amanda stood a few feet away, her face pale, Levi’s small hand clinging to hers. Adam hovered protectively at her side. She looked at me, and for a moment, I hated that she could still look at me with pity. I didn’t want her pity. I wanted justice.

Clara should have been here.

Instead, she was out there, somewhere. The police had told me just this morning: Clara had escaped. The words still made my blood boil. My mother was in the ground, and the woman responsible had slipped through the cracks.

The Autopsy had shown after the accident that Selene had caused, she was sedated which eventually led to her death.
