ANGELA’S POV

The night air brushed against my skin, cool enough to make me aware of every inch it touched. We followed the narrow garden path behind the house, and the only sounds were the steady hum of crickets and the faint scrape of gravel under our feet.

The moonlight slipped through the trees, thin and pale, cutting across the stone like threads of silver. I carried my heels in one hand. My other was in Aaron’s, and for a long time, neither of us said anything. Peaceful. Too peaceful, maybe. The kind that makes your thoughts start circling back on themselves.

I kept thinking about everything, and then some. The wedding. My father’s expectations. The fake smiles at dinner. And Aaron. Especially Aaron, sitting across from me with that polite, faraway look he gets when something is wrong. Even now, he walked beside me, but there was a distance in him that made me want to reach out and shake him, or maybe hold him tighter. I wasn’t sure which.

I stopped walking. “Aaron,” I said quiet

AARON’S POVShe smiled. It was a thin, cruel slash. She leaned back against the wall, the picture of smug satisfaction staring back at me. “Come now, Alpha. Do better than that. You think I spent all my years skulking around the edges of power and didn’t pick up a few secrets? Little whispers traded in dark corners when people forget the poor Omega girl is there.”The cold inside me ignited into a white-hot fire. A snarl ripped from my throat, a sound more beast than man. I crossed the cell in two strides, my hand shooting out to grip the front of her tunic. I hauled her up until her feet barely scraped the floor, slamming her back against the stone wall.“Tell me,” I growled, my face inches from hers. My control, my icy calm, was gone, vaporized. The ghost of woodsmoke and blood, the scent of my family’s burning car, filled my nose. “You tell me what you know. Right now.”She gasped, her hands clawing at my wrist, but the fear in her eyes was mixed with a hideous glee. She had me. Sh

  • Fate Or Mates   0164: Extra Trauma

AARON’S POVThe morning sun was warm on my back as I walked out, leaving Angela in the quiet dining room. Watching her eat, seeing her force down each bite, it took everything I had not to go straight down to the dungeon and tear Kimberly apart with my bare hands. The rage wasn’t hot. It was a cold, quiet thing inside me. It didn’t boil. It was just a solid pressure behind my ribs, constant and heavy. But first, I kept my word. I found David in the east wing guest quarters. He was sitting on the edge of a narrow bed, staring at the wall. He looked a hundred years older.“Your mate,” I said. I didn’t bother with a greeting. “She needs you to stay away. She can’t gather her thoughts with you near. She said your love feels like a poison to her now.”He flinched like I’d struck him. The last flicker of hope in his eyes snuffed out. He just nodded, a broken, mechanical motion. “I understand,” he rasped.“Do you?” My voice was low. “She’s hollowed out, David. The woman you love is gone. You

  • Fate Or Mates   0163:Bitter Taste Of Truth

Angela’s POV“Mom,” he said, his voice low and gentle. No force in it at all. “I am so very sorry for your pain.”My mom’s gaze lifted from the teacup to his face. She looked at him for a long time, like she was really seeing him, not just as the Alpha, but as the man who loved her daughter. Another tear slipped out.“You kept my daughter safe,” she said, her voice a ragged whisper. “When her own father’s choices put her in danger. Thank you.”Hearing her thank him for that, when it was my dad’s job, it was another little crack in the world. Aaron just gave one solemn nod. He didn’t brush it off. “It is my life’s purpose,” he said, simple and true. He glanced at me, a question in his eyes.“We’re just having some tea,” I said. “Join us?”He sat down beside me, keeping his energy calm and steady. He didn’t try to fill the silence with chatter. He was just there. A solid presence. He poured himself a glass of water, and the clink of the pitcher seemed really loud in the quiet. My mom fi

  • Fate Or Mates   0162: NEW DAY, SAME MESS

ANGELA’S POVThat morning light felt harsh, like it was pointing a finger. The night had been soft, hiding things in shadow, but the day was sharp and clear. It just highlighted everything I wanted to forget. Aaron’s side of the bed was already cool. He had left a note on his pillow in his familiar, messy scrawl. Seeing it was a little anchor in all the weird quiet. Morning drills. Meet you for breakfast. Stay strong love. - AI clung to routine. Splashing water on my face, brushing my hair, pulling on soft pants and an old blue tunic. Each thing was me saying, okay, I am still here, I am still Angela. But the face in the mirror looked older. The eyes looking back at me knew too much. They held a shadow of the grief still echoing somewhere in these walls.Breakfast could wait. First, I had to see her.Walking to the guest wing felt different. The hallways were not just hallways anymore. They felt charged, like the air was still humming with last night’s devastation. I stopped outside

ANGELA’S POV“Angela knows?” The hurt in that question was a brand-new wound.“Kimberly told her. To hurt her. To hurt us. Angela… she made me come to you.”A bitter, choked sound from my mom. “My daughter had to force you to be honest with your wife. Goddess, David.”A thud. Like someone sinking to their knees. “I’ve ruined everything. Lost everything. I see it in your eyes. I saw it in hers. Please… I’ll spend the rest of my life trying to make this right. I’ll leave if you want. I’ll go.”The silence stretched, filled only with her crying. When she spoke again, her voice was hollow, scraped clean of every bit of its warmth. I had never heard her sound like that. Ever.“Get out.”“Please…”“I said get out.” It was a scream of pure, unfiltered agony. “I can’t look at you. I can’t be in the same room with you. Get out.”Movement. A stumble. The door handle turned.I panicked. I scrambled back a few paces and ducked into an alcove, pressing myself into the shadows. My father came out.

  • Fate Or Mates   0160: EAVESDROPPING

ANGELA’S POVHonestly, that whole thing with Kimberly just emptied me out. I was running on fumes, mentally and every other way. Walking back to our wing with Aaron was quiet, but it was a good quiet. He was just this solid, warm presence beside me, and I practically leaned my whole weight on him. My mind was blank. I had done what I had to do, and now a tiredness deeper than anything physical settled into my bones. When we got to our room in his quarters, I went straight to the window. I stared out at the garden, all lit up by the moon. Somewhere in this huge, sprawling Pack house, my world was getting broken apart and glued back together all wrong. I could not get the picture out of my head. My dad, looking so hollowed out, walking to tell my mom the lie he had lived for over twenty years.“Try to rest, Angela,” Aaron said softly. He came up behind me, his hands on my shoulders, his thumbs working at the knots there. “There is nothing more you can do tonight.”He was right, I knew t
