LOGINI'm so grateful that Nash saved me from Gamma Leonardo. I would have been dead already if it weren't for him. My parents also did everything they could to help me escape from the pack. I'd never waste this opportunity they gave me. Even if I'd have to live as a rogue wolf, I'll be fine.
When I was young, I often wondered what it felt like to live outside the pack, in a place where no wolf hierarchy exists. Being a beta might be good, but I never wanted the system to define who I am. Perhaps... Perhaps it's fate that this happened.
Maybe the Moon Goddess has plans for me. Maybe she wants me to become stronger; that's the reason why she's sending so many obstacles in my way. Thoughts kept racing in my head as I made my way through the dark forest. Nash insisted on accompanying me.
Finally, we reached the end of the forest. As I wiped the branches off, I saw a village. Everyone must be sleeping already, as there were no other sounds except for the loud, shrill droning of cicadas.
"I'm leaving you here now, Tricia," Nash said.
"Wait—" Nash looked back and seemed surprised as I wrapped my arms around him. "Thanks for everything. You're such a good friend."
"You're welcome. I hope we'll see each other again. If you ever need help, you know where to find me," Nash replied.
I smiled and let him go. In the blink of an eye, he disappeared. He's not the first vampire I've met. I thought vampires were bad, but Nash is different. He wouldn't help me if he were bad. Alright then. I guess it's time to meet the villagers and pretend to be a human.
As I made my way close to the village, I could feel my heart pounding in my chest. I don't know if I'm going to fit in. My mother has warned me not to get too close to humans, or they'll kill me if they find out I'm a werewolf. I reached the gate. There are two guards standing there, sleeping and snoring on their shift. I passed through without getting noticed.
I continued walking and stopped in front of a house. I haven't prevented the urge to knock at the door. I thought I was fine, but my legs say the opposite. I have tripped off many times. Nash wanted me to spend the rest of the night in his cabin, but I insisted on going. He has done a lot for me already. I don't want to cause him more trouble.
The door suddenly opened, and a chubby woman in her forties with long curly black hair came out. A worried expression on her face appeared when she saw me.
"What are you doing here, darling? Come in. You shouldn't stay outside at night, or you'll catch a cold." She helped me inside her house.
"Aaron! Aaron! Wake up!" The woman knocked at the door of a room. "Wake up! We have a guest."
She pulled a chair and told me to take a seat. The door opened and a man stepped out. He looked a bit dozy. I couldn't understand why, but when our eyes met, time itself seemed to slow down, and I saw sparks fly. I haven't even noticed he's wearing a white polo shirt and comfy pants. His curly black hair perfectly complemented his brown eyes, tall nose, and clean-shaven jawline. He looks young, probably in his twenties.
"Hi," he said in a deep, manly voice.
"Hi," I replied, trying to smile.
"What are you still doing there? Go get her something to eat," the woman said.
"No, you don't have to do that, ma'am," I said.
"We have to. Our village is known for its hospitality," the woman insisted. "What's your name, by the way?"
"I'm Tricia," I replied, feeling so shy for causing these people such inconvenience. I didn't expect they'd be this kind, completely opposite to what my mother told me.
The man stopped at the door to the kitchen and looked at me, as if trying to read if I brought danger with me. Our eyes met again. My heart seemed to leap out of my chest when he smiled charmingly.
The woman faked a cough to get my attention. "You seem to have come from far away," she said.
"Yeah, and I need a place where I can stay for tonight." I know I might sound demanding, but I really have nowhere else to go. I'm willing to become a maid if that's necessary.
"You can stay here with us for as long as you want," she said.
"Really?" I asked, eyes sparkling. "But I'm a stranger."
"I'm a good judge of character. Besides, I and my son are the only ones living here. We'll appreciate it if you can help us do some things. You don't have to pay for rent."
"Oh, thank you! What happened to your husband, by the way?"
The smile on her face faded. She remained silent for a while as if she didn't like my question.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to ask such a question."
"It's okay," she paused. "My husband. He's gone."
I don't know what she meant by that. But I didn't want to make her uncomfortable, or she might send me out instead of letting me stay here if I ask more out-of-place questions.
The handsome man in his twenties approached us with a plate of roasted chicken and a glass of water. "Here," he said, handing me the plate and glass.
"Thanks." I accidentally touched his hands, and I felt electrified by it. The tingle in my skin leaves me in reverie for a moment as I imagine how his other body parts would feel.
"Eat all you can, darling," the woman said.
I shook my head, trying to stop the dirty thoughts from swirling around in my head. "Thank you." I used my hands to eat the roasted chicken. "Mmm. This is delicious. Thank you so much. You're so kind. I thought I'd have to sleep outside for the rest of the night."
"Don't worry, you can use the other room. Nobody's using it, though it's a little bit dusty." The woman yawned. "I'm still tired. I should go back to sleep. Just tell Aaron if you need anything. You can ask for his help to clean the room."
"Um. Thank you again, ma'am." I couldn't help but show respect for her. She's like an angel fallen from heaven. I don't know where I'd go if she didn't pick me up outside.
"You're welcome." She smiled before going to her room.
"So, tell me, where have you really been?" The man named Aaron asked, sitting down on the wooden sofa.
I don't know why, but I felt calm in his presence; his voice only added to his charm. Even though we don't know each other much yet, I find him so irresistible. I felt something I can't explain. Don't tell me... Am I having a crush on this stranger?
We arrived at the city before midday. My eyes felt so heavy as if they were going to fall, and my stomach was growling from hunger. I didn't sleep well last night because of those mosquitoes and ants. I'm sure Aaron's also starving. There are a lot of moving things around, resembling a buckwagon, but they are more advanced. "Those are cars," Aaron said, giving me a slight nudge. "Come on, we should sell this horse first. We can't keep it with us if we want to stay here. We'll have to pay for a farrier and vet."There are a lot of new things around I haven't seen before. The streets are busy with cars. Many people are moving back and forth on the sides of the tall buildings. It's so noisy, and the air is thick with pollution.I followed Aaron to the horse buyer's house. He negotiated with the man while I waited for him outside. Finally, Aaron stepped out of the door with a bag full of cash."Good grief, he finally agreed with the price. Come, let's grab something to eat." Aaron held my
I lost control over myself again. My body ran and leaped towards Aaron. I'm seeing him from a bloody lens. He's dangerous, like how I saw Luna Asfara before I killed her. I needed to stop myself before I could make the same mistake again, but I felt so powerless over my wolf. I don't want to see Aaron die in my own hands, but I can't even close my eyes.Even though we've just met, Aaron is the first man who made me feel this way. It is as though I've found home after being banished from the pack. I can be who I am around him. He might not be perfect and acts like a kid sometimes, but I like him for who he is, and I never thought I'd be the reason for his death.Thoughts stopped racing in my head when my wolf jumped above Aaron and attacked those wolves who were trying to kill Nathan. Fiercely, my claws scratched and threw them away one by one while growling until they all ran away and escaped. Then I turned towards Aaron. The blood from my vision is already gone, as if there's no long
Aaron's question made me feel guilty. I want to do what Hellen asked me to do, but I don't want Aaron to hate me and distance himself. He already felt betrayed that his mother didn't tell him the truth. I shouldn't make it more difficult for him, so I decided to spill the beans."It's not that I'm hiding something. I'm just respecting your mother's request," I said."Tell me about it. I won't be mad," he replied."You really want to know?" I asked, thinking about what Hellen told me: how Aaron acts when he's mad. It's not that I'm afraid of him; I just don't want to cause trouble."Of course. She's my mother. I have the right to know whatever is going on," he said.I sighed before saying, "Your mother asked me to take care of you once she's gone. She's going to pay me her savings instead of using it to cure her illness.""What?" Aaron exclaimed. "How could she do that? I'm not a child anymore who needs a nanny. She should have thought about herself first.""She loves you so much that
Hellen was right. I know nothing about how she felt. Also, my parents did the same. Even though I've disappointed them, they still think about my safety. They did everything they could to save me.After eating our food, Hellen and I went back home. On our way, I've been thinking about what she asked me. I don't really know if I can do it, but I think it's worth a try. I can not only earn money to support myself but also experience how it is to be human.I sighed as I lay down on my bed. Looking at my palms, I remembered what I did to Luna Asfara. I don't know how I could kill her. I've never done such a thing before. Something must be wrong with my wolf. All I know is that it's dangerous to transform, for I might not be able to control myself again. I don't want to hurt innocent people.I held the pendant that my mother gave me before I left. It made me remember the memories I had with my parents when I was young. How time flies by. One moment we were happy together, then in just a bl
I swung my legs off the bed and tidied up my bedsheets and pillows before going to the kitchen. The woman was sitting by the table, having coffee. She's so kind. A lot of things happened last night, and I forgot to ask her name."Good morning, ma'am," I said, approaching her."Morning, Tricia. How's your sleep?" she asked."Great. Thanks for the soft bed," I replied, though her question made me remember the wet dream I've had."I'm glad to know that. Want some coffee?" She asked, standing up. "By the way, I'm going to the market today to buy some things, and I'll need some help. Can you come with me?""Of course I can. That's the least I can do." I sat down in the chair. "What's your name, by the way?""Just call me Hellen." She offered a warm smile, stirring the coffee in a mug with a spoon. "Here's your coffee.""Thanks." I sipped the black coffee. It smells incredible and tastes great, though it's the first time I've tasted it. Werewolves aren't fond of coffee, and I only drank tea
I guess they are right. I did not expect it would be this hard to lie to someone you find attractive, especially when he looks into my eyes. I feel like he is undressing me. All the facade and walls I have put around me crumbled down, and I lay there helplessly naked.Come on, Tricia. You can't let a stranger do that to you. You're a beta; you should have the power to resist, especially with a human, and yet... Yet I felt so vulnerable no matter how much I reminded myself."The truth is, I came from the world of werewolves. I've done something unforgivable, and they banished me," I said, giving up all my inhibitions. I don't care if he would laugh or make fun of me anymore. I have nothing to lose anyway.Aaron didn't say anything but looked into my eyes, as if trying to find any signs of lies. "You don't seem to be lying," he said, still holding my eyes. "And you look pretty despite what you're wearing."Wait. Did he just compliment or insult me? I looked at my arms. I'm wearing this
