Chapter 5

Astra's pov

"Astra, are you asleep?" I heard a soft knock on my door.

"No, mom. I was just about to go to bed." I stood up and slowly walked to the door.

"I wanted to talk to you about something." She said as I opened the door.

"About Jay?" I asked. She nodded. We went in and sat on my bed. She gently took my hand in hers.

"Astra, dear, I know you don't feel good about this Jay being your mate thing but Astra, we've known that guy for more than 6 years now. He even lived with us for around 4 years. I know that kid. And I know he loves you. Remember how he saved you back then? So..."

"You're just being optimistic, mom. Yeah, I know we've known him for more than 6 years, he lived with us for 4 years. Why don't you mention that it has been 2 years since he betrayed us? He saved me because he loves me? If anything, he must have saved me because he was guilty. Nothing...more..." I stopped as tears rolled down my cheeks. She hugged me.

"I'm sorry, Astra but I'm just worried about you. You know you are someone he would never hurt. I believe he was being forced when he did that before. So Astra...I want you to meet him once." She stopped to look at my reaction. She got none.

"Astra, you know staying away from him for too long is going to be hard on you too. Do you not feel some kind of pain in your chest already?" she asked.

"I don't," I lied. Actually, I had been feeling the pain since yesterday morning right after I woke up. Mom sighed.

"Astra..." she began.

"I really don't feel any kind of pain," I insisted stubbornly. She nodded.

"But I still want you to go and talk to that kid. Sort out things. It will also ease the chest pain you are feeling for a while."

"Mom, I..." I decided to not say anything. "Okay, I will go tomorrow..."

"Thank you, sweetheart. I am going back to my room too now." She stood up. "Oh, right! Do not mention going out to meet Jay to your brother. You know he won't let you."

"I know. I won't tell him. Good night, mom"

"Good night, Astra." She left the room. As soon as the mom shut the door from outside, I rolled towards the corner of my bed and curled up, trying my best to push back my thoughts and not cry.
