Alexa climbed on her dark horse, along with her travel clothes the only colorful thing in that scenario was her blond white hair in a braid and the silver pommel of her sword. By the corner of her eye, she could see Charles and with her sight of a werewolf, she could tell the disapproval on his crossed arms in front of his chest, the line that his lips made, and a wrinkle on his forehead. She didn't want any goodbyes so they wouldn't alarm the villagers or the rest of the kingdom. As soon as she crossed the gates into the open road she motioned her horse into a gallop until her castle was nothing more than a blurry point in the horizon behind her she let the horse calm down to a quick pass without anyone to talk to during her travel Jax became an excellent confidant.
Her thoughts were a mess about the decision that she had made, she still had doubts if it was the right one never before in all the history of the kingdom a move like the one she had made were ever attempted a team with both species they were entering in uncharted waters and anything could happen. She felt the horse complain of the effort that he was making and let him go for a light step she couldn't let him get to exhaustion because it would be unlikely she could found another horse and the journey ahead was a long one.She arrived at the meeting point in the day that was expected them to meet, she didn't see any sign of him so she dismounts the horse still in her territory but so far up north she could feel the magic of the wolf weaker, she came closer to the border clenched her teeth and she ran her hand through the barrier only for the sake of curiosity. She had always been curious about the borders but had never been so up north, so close to one, fear runs through her heart but she kept her hand in a place closer to touch the barrier her curiosity was higher than her fear. As soon as her hand touches the invisible barrier a terrible pain crossed her arms like if her bones were shattering into little pieces sending electric shocks all over her body. Immediately she removed her hand, grabbing her with the other hand, she was white as if all the blood on her body vanished for a second before the wolf blood in her started normalizing her body but her fingertips were black and the pain remains even if not so intensive as before. Alexa sat propped up against the trunk of a tree holding her breath trying to maintain consciousness. As soon as she felt the pain leave her body, she rose, went to the saddlebags, and took out a piece of dried meat and bread, to restore the energies that healing had used, "do you see Jax? It's because of this we shouldn't break the rules! There are always consequences for our actions!" Alexa waited for the answer from the horse, even knowing that it would never speak."Yes I know Jax, I was an idiot for trying the barrier but how would I otherwise know what it does? For sure is something I'll never try again, I've learned the lesson!"Alexa sat down again, waiting for Edwin, nibbling on the bread she still had in her hands, watching the forest in front of her, listening with wolf's hearing and sniffing animals of various kinds, small and large, but they were all moving away, she realized that she was in the direction of the wind, her scent warned creatures that the predator in herself was present in the forest and there was nothing she could do, the herbivores and most carnivores feared the werewolf, a natural predator, the wolf within them was worse than a normal wolf and the magic increased bloodthirst, the need to hunt and feed. Alexa could control better than most, for being natural, but for that, she had to be chewing constantly to satisfy hunger and the need to hunt, a curse that no one could control, but she submitted everything to prevent her wolf from manifesting himself either in his total form or in her actions as a human since she was a child she felt him waiting in the shadows of her mind for the most opportune moment to gain control. It had only happened twice in the past when anger or sadness was too much to contain the beast within. But she needed to prepare herself mentally, because, with a vampire, the beast would be more at the surface, as a defense mechanism. She could not let any emotion escape her control and she would have to give Edwin something to protect him, which was a secret guarded by the royal family of Zulcan and she did not even know if she could trust him enough to give him this secret, but to avoid a war she would have to do it if for some reason she lost control she could end up killing him or he could kill her considering his reputation. It would be a weapon to be used against her kind, but she felt her hands and feet tied. She looked up at the sky, the night was about to arrive and there was no sign of Edwin and she felt tired. "Hey, Jax! Do you watch over me? I need to get some rest!" The horse looked at her, the only animal that could bear be near her, for it was accustomed to the smell. "I'll consider that a yes!"Alexa put her head back and closed her eyes, but she did not let herself sleep, she couldn't afford to, being so close to the border. Her thoughts wandered to her mother, Selina who sang to her to fall asleep, after the nightmares of the first Tournament had so frightened her that she could not sleep without nightmares. The first Tournament was cruel, to see children fight to the death or near to become werewolves and possibly the royal consort, although it was rare for the royal mate to be found in the first Tournament, sometimes this happened and did not prevent people from having hope that would happen. Alexa knew that if she let the wolf out he would love the cruelty, struggle, and blood, but she didn't like it. Her father sometimes said that if she were not such a precocious natural then she certainly would have been changed at birth, for she had no trace of aggressiveness inherent in the natural werewolf.Years after her father's death, she still remembered those words soaked in disappointment and embarrassment, to counteract the pain these words still inflicted on her, Alexa used to say to herself that she was better at controlling the wolf, better than all who had come before, but the truth was that she was afraid of the wolf and was more afraid of liking what the wolf made her feel. She felt a puff and looked up, watching Edwin cross the river.Edwin felt nothing as he passed the Barrier. He had a very strong body and over time learned to control the pain he felt when he crossed the border. And it seemed, from what he had seen last week, more vampires had learned to create this force and were crossing the border to kill humans. He was not sure yet if Morgaine was consenting to all that, but at no time did she denied her involvement. It worried him because she was the only person he could trust after his father's death. He approached Alexa, looked at the horse she was bringing, and then into the woods behind her, "Where should we go?" She asked.Edwin stared at her intently and his attention flew to the tips of her right hand that were in a purplish tone, "did you try to cross the Border?" He asked, pointing behind his back, where he had come from. She became visibly bewildered and hid her hand behind her back, which meant a great weakness in front of him, "even though this is my part of the
There was no better feeling than freedom, as she galloped with Jax, even though she had a vampire, over her head, leaping from tree to tree. As she had feared, he had spent the brief moment when they were talking insulting her, or at least trying, nothing very serious, but her inner wolf did not like it very much, she knew that if the offenses climbed, she might not be able to control the wolf but she also didn't feel comfortable with Edwin, to give him the volume she carried with her, wrapped in a leather and velvet bag, trying as much as possible to keep it away from her skin. The night gave way to the day and although Alexa did not want to give the weak part to Edwin, Jax was beginning to show signs of fatigue and would be reckless to continue pulling him, so she stopped the horse and waited for Edwin to realize that she needed to stop, a thing he made, just a few trees ahead, going back over the land he had a smug smile on his face when he said, "So, Queen,
Edwin stared into nothingness, thinking of his life and his kingdom, "living in Elatre is normal!"Alexa stared at him, she had given him too much detail. She knew she was more exposed than he was, though everything that had been said would not affect her at all."Well, it must not be like Zulcan, so I do not know what's normal for you."Edwin rolled his eyes, he didn't want to tell what it was like to live there, because that would make him remember his dark past, "I also ran with the children of the kingdom while I was younger and without responsibility," he began, his lack of detail irritating Alexa, "but despite everything, everyone there was antisocial, even the children.""Do you have any kind of transformation?" Alexa's curiosity about him was funny, he thought everyone knew how vampires lived."I only survive if I take a jug of blood a day at a minimum" he went on. "Well, that's since I've known myself, so I should not have a
After what she had seen the night before, it was with relief that she saw Jax came to her, early in the morning, frightened, it took her some time to calm it down and grab it when she succeeded she rode it and kept a jog, not wanting to know how competitive Edwin felt about showing that vampires were better than werewolves, but she had slept badly after the sighting of the creatures last night and all that entailed.Night Soldiers were creatures conjured by a powerful human-made spell, their only function was to hunt the mystics, whether they were Vampires or Werewolves, although they did not see well they had excellent qualities in other senses, had the smell of vampires, and the hearing of a werewolf, the speed of a vampire allied with the agility of a werewolf and to make matters worse, if the books were correct, they had poison in the claws that immobilized and in the teeth, the same venom as a vampire and the only way to kill a creature like there was with
Edwin could not sleep, no matter how high he had climbed on the tallest tree there and seen that it was safe, without any danger around. He still did not believe that she had entrusted to him something so powerful, that he could control her whole kingdom. Very brave of her to trust him, since he was another mystical being, and one of the worstenemies of the werewolves. The collar was a shiny leather, with two black stones in the center, the buckle was silver. The glow of that object almost dazzled his gaze.Edwin put the leash inside the bag again and faced Alexa, who slept next to Jax, just after the fire she had made the night before. During the night in the forest, it was very cold, that fire was not enough to heat them, but it was already much better than just the temperature of the environment. He studied her, she seemed to be young in human years, maybe twenty-two or about that, the same age he had whe he stopped growing and aging, as normal in
Trying to fall asleep, pretending not to feel Edwin's eyes on her back, she began to feel a mental itch, an emptiness she had forgotten to check and tried to connect with the minds of her fellow pack members, but she quickly pulled herself into other fields, she still felt his strong cold hands squatting around her waist, she could not forget the feeling no matter how much she wanted it, though she didn't want to for once no one could not even admit that a werewolf was friendly with a vampire, let alone that she enjoyed the company of one, and despite the what always had been done and Edwin's bickering she was beginning to like his company, even more so after learning that the Night Soldiers were active again, it would be good not to have to face one alone, even in her Wolf. She tried to remember what else was in the stories, but her tired mind took her into pre-war history before the war. At a time when Vampires and Werewolves lived in harmony, with nothing but a small d
Entering the clearing, and seeing the black monster of the Night Soldier laying in the ground unmoving gave Edwin some concern, would it be alive, was the question that was on his mind, with his sight he noticed the black goo that was gushing from a wound of teeth. Then he heard a whimpering, that sent shivers down his spine his vision caught sight of a massive moon white wolf lying in the ground. His chest felt heavy, when he saw the wound on the side of the wolf, red-stained the pure white fur, and the wound looked black-ish. He came close, he had heard the howls and suspected something was wrong with Alexa, but nothing would have prepared him for this, from the stories she told, he knew what was happening, she was dying, and he couldn't accept that.Edwin came closer to the wolf, with a plan in his head, it might no cure her, but it could help to delay her death and maybe give them time to found a solution to save her. He grabbed the coll
She felt some cold hands touching her, on her forehead she opened her eyes to see Edwin over her, an overwhelming concern filled his face, a thin closed line of pink lips, semi-close eyes, and rebellious hair, a question remain on his face when he helped her sit down."Are you all right? What happened? What are you feeling?""I'm fine... I think..." Alexa started by saying. "I feel strange, cold and as if my bones were hurting, a slight pain, I can bear it.""What happened?" He asked, sitting in front of her."I was trying to get in touch with my pack, to see if everything was all right, by Zulcan, I didn't even realize that a Night Soldier was approaching, Jax didn't feel it either or he would have warned me. It came up against the wind! I tried to fight her with the sword, but it did nothing to it, not a scratch and another thing that wasn't mentioned in any of the stories was the spike it had on i
