The thought of how Lucian’s mother bribed her stabbed a sharp pain into Emily’s heart.

She could do nothing but swallow the embarrassment as she went to Laura’s house. Emily was completely pissed off. Why did it have to happen on the same day she felt so humiliated by Lucian? Why did she have to be in such situations where she would see herself getting caught off guard by the people she only wished would accept her?

"What’s wrong?" Laura asked concernedly when she entered her house.

Her forehead was creased and her lips formed a thin line, so it would not be difficult for Laura not to notice that she had problems.

Emily breathed in and out as she walked to the living room, and then finally sat down on the couch like it was the only place where she could relax and think clearly.

Laura stood up in front of her with folded arms against her chest.

"Did he try to hurt you again?" Laura asked suspiciously.
