It has been several months since Charlotte disappeared. I have searched every possible place, even turned the woods inside out, but she is nowhere to be found. Kiana keeps insisting that she is probably dead, but I refuse to believe her. The footage I watched showed Charlotte looking happy and healthy, which hurt me to see after she rejected me. I know I have no right to blame her; I was the one who pushed her to her limits. If I were given another chance, I would make things right.
A sudden knock on the door interrupted my gloomy thoughts. I looked up to see my beta, Nicholas, entering the office. "What do you want?" I asked, not pleased with his visit. Without my mate here, nothing seems to make sense anymore. I find myself losing interest in being the alpha. Choosing Kiana was not worth it, and I regret my actions. But it is too late now, or maybe it isn't. If only Charlotte would show up.
"Good afternoon, Alpha," Nicholas greeted with a respectful bow. He is my beta, but there was no closeness between us, and I am to blame for that. However, I have no intentions of fixing things. "Get straight to the point," I demanded, not even bothering to look at him. He was probably here to report something insignificant, as he always does. The only news I long to hear is about Charlotte's whereabouts, but there has been nothing for a while now.
He cleared his throat, preparing to speak. "There have been recent complaints about a group of female warriors causing chaos deep in the woods. They have claimed an island as theirs, even though it belongs to no one, and they go as far as punishing intruders with death. Very little is known about this group, but it is widely known that they have a queen and no males are part of their group. They are known to be vicious and completely ruthless. Several members of our pack have fallen victim to them, and the people are demanding action."
A hiss escaped my lips, and in an instant, I grabbed the file from the table and flung it towards him. However, he quickly ducked to avoid it. "Is this the nonsense you have to tell me? It's just a group of females, how strong could they be? Take a few men and eliminate them. I don't want to hear any more news about this unless it involves Charlotte. Don't bother reporting to me if there is an attack on my people, do something. You're the beta, for crying out loud. Do I need to read everything out loud to you?"
"I apologize, Alpha. I will attend to it immediately." He turned around and left the room. I sank back into my chair with a sigh. When will she return? Will she ever come back? The day passed by quickly, just like every other day I spent in the office, pretending to be the alpha. In reality, I had mentally checked out of this position a long time ago.
I retired to my room, with a gloomy expression as soon as the door swung open. To my surprise, Kiana was lying on the bed completely naked. I glanced at her for a moment, but no matter how seductive she tried to be, I couldn't find her attractive. I looked away, not even remotely interested, and sternly told her to leave.
She got up from the bed and approached me, wrapping her arms around my neck in a seductive manner. "Baby," she purred against my chest. However, I found this gesture repulsive and pushed her away. "Are you deaf? I said, "Get out." She did this every night, and I wondered when she would finally understand.
After Charlotte left, my relationship with Kiana quickly turned sour. I no longer bothered pretending, and I regretted every action I had taken. Seeing her was a constant reminder of my mistakes. However, she refused to accept this and continued to make advances at me, which, of course, did not work in her favour. Since I refused to fall for her tricks, a frown appeared on her face, and I could sense what was coming next. Just as she was about to speak, I interrupted her. "Aren't you tired of this?"
"What do you want me to do, Adonis?" she screamed, tears streaming down her face. "You won't even look at me, let alone touch me. It's been years since we last had sex. You, of all people, know that a woman who can't bear a child is useless to the family. I only have one request from you, and that is to get me pregnant."
To me, it seemed like a simple task, but for her, it was an impossible mission. I never find her attractive, not even in the slightest way. Ever since the day I marked her, I made a conscious decision to never touch her again. Even being alone with her that night was pure torture to me. I desperately wished for it to end, and when it finally did, I had to scrub myself vigorously to get rid of her unpleasant scent. However, I am no longer willing to pretend.
"Since you know that you are of no value to the pack, I suggest you find another man to cling onto." I hoped she would take my advice, but Kiana was stubborn and refused to give in.
She laughed and arrogantly stated, "Do you really think you can easily get rid of me? Let me tell you something, you have no idea what I went through to win you over. I even lost my best friend, someone who was like a sister to me."
I rolled my eyes at her comment and sarcastically replied, "Sure."
But she didn't stop there. She continued, "No matter how hard you try to push me away, we are bound together in this marriage. Whether you like it or not, you will be mine."
Charlotte.Since our last encounter, Iris made a conscious effort to avoid crossing paths with me. While this should have brought me some relief, I couldn't shake the feeling that she was plotting something. It wasn't necessarily something bad, but it was disheartening to see her training tirelessly from morning till night, day after day. As the Queen had proclaimed, nobody dared to mess with me or speak to me in a disrespectful manner they used to. Even without the Queen's intervention, rumors were spreading like wildfire that I would be the one to succeed her. Surprisingly, Kali also started to keep her distance, and I couldn't help but wonder what went wrong. Even if everyone turned their backs on me, I had expected Kali to stand by my side. However, she seemed to be the first person to create a divide between us, and it pained me. Every attempt I made to talk to her failed. She had already built a wall between us, just like the others. She even began greeting me eve
Adonis. It’s been an eternity since Nicholas ventured into the ominous Forest with my bravest soldiers, and not a single whisper of news has reached my ears. It is not Nicholas himself that concerns me, but rather the fate of the men who accompanied him. These warriors are the cream of the crop, and if they were to vanish without a trace or suffer some terrible fate, I fear I would find myself in dire straits. My attention slowly shifted from the search for Charlotte to the desperate hunt for Nicholas. Each day, I found myself consumed by thoughts of what could have gone awry, concocting countless scenarios in my mind. Could it be that these female warriors were so formidable that they overpowered Nicholas himself? The notion seemed preposterous, for these men are the epitome of strength. Yet, why is there not a single whisper of their whereabouts? What calamity has befallen them? Where is Nicholas?"Don't fret, they will be alright," Kiana's voice broke th
Charlotte."In the midst of my demise, the squirrel's intrusion breathed new life into me, allowing me to forge ahead and create this pack. And now, I believe you, Charlotte, have been chosen for the very same reason - to carry on where I left off. I apologize for not recognizing it sooner and subjecting you to torment. But, if you don't mind, would you be willing to take on the mantle of the next queen?" she proposed. The intensity in her eyes assured me that this was no jest; her decision was resolute. Yet, everything was unfolding at an alarming pace. One moment, I was an omega, the next, the pack's chef. And now, I was being asked to ascend to the throne. My life felt like a wild whirlwind, akin to a reckless rollercoaster ride. If only I could disembark, even if just for a fleeting moment."That's quite the offer, but can I simply return to being the pack's chef? I've grown accustomed to this role, you know. Swiftly climbing the ranks isn't exactly what I h
Charlotte. In an unexpected act of kindness, she reached out and handed me her jacket, recognizing my vulnerability in my nakedness. Together, we made our way back to the pack, enveloped in a heavy silence. My intuition about her warm nature was confirmed, although it seemed she wore a mask to shield herself from being taken advantage of. A single glance at her revealed a heartbreaking tale hidden behind her stoic facade. As Iris and I passed by, the women stared at us with curious eyes. I couldn't help but feel that I was the focal point of their attention, rather than Iris. In that moment, I yearned for the days when I was a nobody, when people rarely spared me a glance. Now, it seemed that the spotlight was unavoidable. I wondered what the future had in store for me within this pack. It came as no surprise when the Queen summoned me, but I couldn't shake off the nerves that consumed me as I prepared to meet her. With no explanation for what had transpired earlier, I ponder
Charlotte. As soon as my blood made contact with the squirrel, it vanished instantly and I was struck by a powerful force from an unknown source. The impact was so strong that I fell to the ground, unable to withstand it.Much to my surprise, I found myself levitating in the air, and the pain in my chest had disappeared completely. I looked around and saw everyone staring at me in shock, but I couldn't understand what was happening. It all occurred so quickly - one moment I was floating in the air, and the next my bones were expanding, as if I were being torn apart.I felt a burning sensation spread out across my body which led me to let out a painful cry. My clothes were being torn to shreds, but that was the least of my concerns. It felt as though my consciousness was being locked away in a dusty old room, while a new entity took over.Suddenly, lightning appeared in the sky and struck me directly. Surprisingly, I felt no pain. Instead, a strange surge
Charlotte. The Queen wasted no time in rushing over, her anger evident as she prepared to confront the intruders. Nicholas, on the other hand, seemed thrilled to meet her. He carelessly tossed me aside and confidently faced her with a smile."It's a pleasure to finally meet you in person, Renee," he addressed her by her first name, clearly upsetting the Queen. This man was truly pushing his luck, and I couldn't help but admire his bravery. "I've heard so much about you," he continued. "Would you mind sparing a minute to have tea with me? Or should I eliminate every single member of your pack, as instructed by my boss? Although, since you're so beautiful, I wouldn't mind taking you home as my second wife, even though I'm already married."His audacity was astounding. I eagerly awaited the moment when the Queen would finally tear him apart. She stepped forward, ready to attack, but he interrupted her."Not so fast. How about you listen first before making a
