Charlotte.

I woke up to the sensation of water being splashed over my head, sending a shiver down my spine. My eyes peeled open, and I found myself lying on the ground, bundled up like a criminal. A voice, filled with intimidation, asked if I was awake.

"I believe so, my queen," someone behind me replied. In an instant, I was lifted up and forced to meet her icy gaze. I quickly looked away, afraid of what she might do. She stood just inches away from me, wearing a silver dress that flowed all the way to the ground. A majestic crown sat gracefully on her head, although I couldn't help but wonder if her neck hurt from its weight. I remained silent.

The queen took a step forward and ran her fingers across my face, her expression devoid of any smile. I feared what she had in store for me as she observed me like a predator would its prey. From what I had gathered, they didn't eat squirrels, so surely wolf meat wouldn't be on their menu, right?

"What do you think about cooking her for dinner?" she said, seemingly to no one in particular. I froze, absolutely horrified. However, her stone-cold face suddenly broke into a smile as she threw her head back and laughed like a child.

"Relax," she said amidst her laughter. "I'm just joking. We don't eat wolves here. However, hunting down a squirrel is also taboo, and anyone who tries it will not be spared."

Summoning all the courage within me, I asked, "Why?"

"Because they are our spirit guides. Killing a squirrel would bring calamity to the pack. Not many know about this, and in order to keep it a secret, we have to silence intruders with death."

It finally clicked in my mind, a brilliant idea struck me. It was my only chance at survival. "Please, take me in. I have nowhere else to go," I pleaded. "I was betrayed by my best friend, abandoned by my mate, and ultimately forced into rejection. I don't mind being a slave, as long as I have a roof over my head." As I spoke, the queen paused, studying me from head to toe.

"And how can I be certain that you're telling the truth?" she questioned, determined not to believe me.

"My name is Charlotte. I used to belong to the blood moon pack. You can inquire about me. My story was quite well-known among the people."

I noticed a flicker in her eyes at the mention of my pack's name, but she quickly turned away, facing me with her back.

"Don't fall for it, my queen," Iris interjected, emerging from behind and covered in mud. She fell to her knees and continued, "Just one look at her and you can tell she's lying. She's obviously a spy. How else would she know to attack a squirrel the moment she set foot on our land? She must have been sent by the neighboring pack."

Kali rushed onto the scene, also covered in mud. I wondered what had transpired between them. "I was there when it happened, my queen. She was only hungry. You are known for your wisdom and kindness. I request that you temper justice with mercy."

Iris glared at her. "You said the same thing about Octavia last time. And look how that turned out."

Kali shot back with a fierce look in her eyes. "By that logic, you should be dead by now. Didn't the queen save you, even though you were the daughter of her enemy?"

Iris was about to argue, but the queen abruptly shouted, "stop!" This caused both of them to fall silent. Turning around, the queen addressed me, "Are you Charlotte?"

I nodded immediately, and she continued, "Do you have any idea what we are all about?" I had no clue whatsoever.

"Every woman here has been rejected by their moon goddess-given mate in the cruelest way possible. We are known as the rejected warriors, and we are forming a powerful army to seek revenge."

"There is one important thing you need to know. It is forbidden to return to your mate. To ensure you stick to the rules, you will be required to consume a potion that will strip you of your ability to love. The bond you share with your mate will be completely dissolved. If you ever cross paths with him, he will appear as a mere stranger. After hearing this, do you still wish to join us?" Her eyes locked with mine, as if she was searching for answers deep within my soul.

I had no desire to go back to the blood moon pack or Adonis. Any feelings I had for him had vanished long ago, so I doubted the potion would have any effect on me as my heart was already stone cold.

"Yes," I replied with determination, my eyes filled with resolve, "it would be an honour to be a part of this incredible sisterhood you have created."

She appeared content with my response, just as I believed the conversation was coming to an end, she unexpectedly spoke up, "That is merely the initial step. We do not accept just anyone. You must possess the spirit of a warrior seeking revenge. Now, Charlotte, tell me, how skilled are you in combat?"

My breath caught in my throat, and I found myself unable to formulate a response. How could I convey to her that I lacked the ability to shift, at my big old age. She stared at me, patiently awaiting my answer.

Reluctantly, I finally managed to speak, "I... I have never been able to shift." I confessed, my head hanging low. Laughter erupted from behind me, and I didn't need to turn around to know it was Iris. The queen appeared disappointed with my admission and turned her back on me.

"Throw her into the dungeon," she declared firmly. Iris wasted no time in approaching me.

"Wait!" I shouted, desperately

Charlotte.Since our last encounter, Iris made a conscious effort to avoid crossing paths with me. While this should have brought me some relief, I couldn't shake the feeling that she was plotting something. It wasn't necessarily something bad, but it was disheartening to see her training tirelessly from morning till night, day after day. As the Queen had proclaimed, nobody dared to mess with me or speak to me in a disrespectful manner they used to. Even without the Queen's intervention, rumors were spreading like wildfire that I would be the one to succeed her. Surprisingly, Kali also started to keep her distance, and I couldn't help but wonder what went wrong. Even if everyone turned their backs on me, I had expected Kali to stand by my side. However, she seemed to be the first person to create a divide between us, and it pained me. Every attempt I made to talk to her failed. She had already built a wall between us, just like the others. She even began greeting me eve

Adonis. It’s been an eternity since Nicholas ventured into the ominous Forest with my bravest soldiers, and not a single whisper of news has reached my ears. It is not Nicholas himself that concerns me, but rather the fate of the men who accompanied him. These warriors are the cream of the crop, and if they were to vanish without a trace or suffer some terrible fate, I fear I would find myself in dire straits. My attention slowly shifted from the search for Charlotte to the desperate hunt for Nicholas. Each day, I found myself consumed by thoughts of what could have gone awry, concocting countless scenarios in my mind. Could it be that these female warriors were so formidable that they overpowered Nicholas himself? The notion seemed preposterous, for these men are the epitome of strength. Yet, why is there not a single whisper of their whereabouts? What calamity has befallen them? Where is Nicholas?"Don't fret, they will be alright," Kiana's voice broke th

Charlotte."In the midst of my demise, the squirrel's intrusion breathed new life into me, allowing me to forge ahead and create this pack. And now, I believe you, Charlotte, have been chosen for the very same reason - to carry on where I left off. I apologize for not recognizing it sooner and subjecting you to torment. But, if you don't mind, would you be willing to take on the mantle of the next queen?" she proposed. The intensity in her eyes assured me that this was no jest; her decision was resolute. Yet, everything was unfolding at an alarming pace. One moment, I was an omega, the next, the pack's chef. And now, I was being asked to ascend to the throne. My life felt like a wild whirlwind, akin to a reckless rollercoaster ride. If only I could disembark, even if just for a fleeting moment."That's quite the offer, but can I simply return to being the pack's chef? I've grown accustomed to this role, you know. Swiftly climbing the ranks isn't exactly what I h

Charlotte. In an unexpected act of kindness, she reached out and handed me her jacket, recognizing my vulnerability in my nakedness. Together, we made our way back to the pack, enveloped in a heavy silence. My intuition about her warm nature was confirmed, although it seemed she wore a mask to shield herself from being taken advantage of. A single glance at her revealed a heartbreaking tale hidden behind her stoic facade. As Iris and I passed by, the women stared at us with curious eyes. I couldn't help but feel that I was the focal point of their attention, rather than Iris. In that moment, I yearned for the days when I was a nobody, when people rarely spared me a glance. Now, it seemed that the spotlight was unavoidable. I wondered what the future had in store for me within this pack. It came as no surprise when the Queen summoned me, but I couldn't shake off the nerves that consumed me as I prepared to meet her. With no explanation for what had transpired earlier, I ponder

Charlotte. As soon as my blood made contact with the squirrel, it vanished instantly and I was struck by a powerful force from an unknown source. The impact was so strong that I fell to the ground, unable to withstand it.Much to my surprise, I found myself levitating in the air, and the pain in my chest had disappeared completely. I looked around and saw everyone staring at me in shock, but I couldn't understand what was happening. It all occurred so quickly - one moment I was floating in the air, and the next my bones were expanding, as if I were being torn apart.I felt a burning sensation spread out across my body which led me to let out a painful cry. My clothes were being torn to shreds, but that was the least of my concerns. It felt as though my consciousness was being locked away in a dusty old room, while a new entity took over.Suddenly, lightning appeared in the sky and struck me directly. Surprisingly, I felt no pain. Instead, a strange surge

Charlotte. The Queen wasted no time in rushing over, her anger evident as she prepared to confront the intruders. Nicholas, on the other hand, seemed thrilled to meet her. He carelessly tossed me aside and confidently faced her with a smile."It's a pleasure to finally meet you in person, Renee," he addressed her by her first name, clearly upsetting the Queen. This man was truly pushing his luck, and I couldn't help but admire his bravery. "I've heard so much about you," he continued. "Would you mind sparing a minute to have tea with me? Or should I eliminate every single member of your pack, as instructed by my boss? Although, since you're so beautiful, I wouldn't mind taking you home as my second wife, even though I'm already married."His audacity was astounding. I eagerly awaited the moment when the Queen would finally tear him apart. She stepped forward, ready to attack, but he interrupted her."Not so fast. How about you listen first before making a
