MasukCHAPTER EIGHT
Noah.It was impulsive, but it was happening. I was taking Charlotte out for lunch, and I had no idea where to go because I had not planned this. The reason was because I needed to rope her into the marriage contract fully as soon as possible, and for that to happen, I needed to stop her from going back to her home in Romulus territory where I couldn't reach her without stirring up trouble.
"Where are we going?" Charlotte asked timidly. I wonder whether it was the brief display of violence from earlier that had quelled her fieriness, but she had seemed somewhat scared since she got into the car.
"To a restaurant."
"Which one?" She asked, seeming to gain confidence with every passing second.
"Green?" I called for my assistant who sat at the edge of his seat facing the window- a show to make us forget he was there.
"Sir?"
"Call for another car. I would like to travel privately with Charlotte."
"Of course."
Charlotte's eyebrows furrowed into a deep frown. "What-" She looked at Green helplessly as the car pulled to a halt. "What is this?"
As Green opened his door and came down, I leaned towards him and said, "Prepare the paperwork. Discreetly, please. We will be at The Windmill."
"Understood." He shut the car and the ride resumed.
"What was that?" Charlotte asked, her voice becoming more defined. "And where are you taking me?"
"Even if I told you, you wouldn't know the place."
"Oh yeah? What makes you so sure?"
"Because I already said it. If it was MacDonald's you'd have taken note of it for sure."
"Huh? The Windmill?"
"Oh, so you were paying attention."
"What the hell kind of place is that?"
"Like I said, even if I told you, you wouldn't know it. I don't mean to be rude but, it is far out of your economic bracket."
I held eye contact with her while dressing my lips with a smirk. Her nostrils flared and she pouted her lips.
"That's why you sent him out? So he wouldn't hear you insult me?"
"I haven't insulted you."
"Really now?"
"Yes."
"Let me out."
"No can do."
"I'm going to scream."
I chuckled. "That would really hurt my ears."
"Yeah, and then someone's going to call the cops because a woman kept screaming and banging on the windows."
"It's... uh..." I bit down on a chuckle. "It's a soundproof vehicle, Charlotte. And no one can see us in here."
She looked at the glass and only then seemed to realize that it was tinted. I watched her force a lump of spit down her throat and I could have sworn I saw her shiver slightly.
"You sick man."
"What?"
"I'm being kidnapped? Why do you need a soundproof car?"
I licked my lips as the curled up into a smile and leaned forward, stretching my hand out to touch her thigh.
"Because sometimes," I said, letting my eyes roam her body, "My women tend to get impatient... if you know what I mean."
Her eye twitched and it almost made me break character and burst out laughing. She swiped my hand away and readjusted her dress, clearing her throat lightly.
I leaned back, still smiling. "No, this is not a kidnap. We're going to have lunch at a restaurant on the other side of town, and then we will have a very serious conversation."
"What conversation?"
"Jeez do I have to spell it out for you?" I said, feeling satisfied that I could give her a taste of her own medicine. "The marriage. Terms and conditions. Et cetera."
"Well, we can have that conversation now. Why postpone it?"
"I find it discourteous to have such sensitive discussions within the confines of a moving box."
"So what? We should just stare at each other?"
"No, you can tell me everything I need to know about you."
"You find it discourteous-" She made air quotes with her fingers, "to have sensitive conversations in a car, but you don't mind getting to know me within the same context?"
"You're right. There is some dissonance at play here." I admitted. "Then, I guess we can sit in silence."
"No. You will answer my questions." She said, and I enjoyed her feeble attempt at imposing authority. "Who are you?"
"Noah, I thought I introduced myself already."
"I'm not playing."
"Noah Anderson."
"You got to give me more than that."
"I'm... uh... a businessman."
"What kind of business?"
"It didn't occur to you to ask these questions before agreeing to be my wife?"
"I haven't agreed to anything."
I sighed and shook my head dramatically. "And here I was thinking you are a woman of your word."
"Sorry to disappoint. Now shoot."
"I'm my father's only son." I said. "I'm turning twenty eight, and I need to be married before I'm thirty."
"Why?"
"Tradition."
"Tradition?"
"Family tradition."
"Where'd you get your money from?"
"Oh, getting really intimate here, huh?" I said humorously. "I got my wealth from my father."
"And him?"
"His father. I told you. Business. Family business."
"So you come from generational wealth. That's why you think you can buy me."
"That's not what this is and I wonder what even gave you the impression."
"Why me?"
"We've gone over this before, Charlotte, and I'm tired of these questions. We're going to get to The Windmill, have a great lunch, discuss the terms of our marriage and what we both stand to gain, then Green will come in with some paperwork which we will sign promptly, binding us to the agreement legally, and in three days, we will be a wedded couple."
CHAPTER ELEVEN Noah.I sighed in disappointment as she ran out of the room, but I didn't chase after her. I was too irritated. Today had been an irritating day for me.Green came in shortly after, looking curious, but smart enough to not ask me a question that would further aggravate my brewing anger. He simply stood by while I held the unsigned contract in my hand, my eyes scanning the text for anything wrong or off-putting but I could find nothing out of the ordinary. She stood to gain much more than she would potentially lose, so what was the matter? She was still in the building, I could sense her presence strongly, and I wondered what she was doing just standing around."Green?" I called and Green walked to where I sat."What's wrong with it?" I slid the document to the edge of the table he stood at."Nothing in particular, sir.""Then why didn't she accept?""Er... I believe the reason to be the price.""The price?""I don't think she's ever seen that kind of money, sir. It wou
CHAPTER TEN Charlotte."Whew, sorry about that." Noah said and planted himself on his seat again, as if something extraordinarily crazy did not just unfold right before me.I was still sitting on my seat, but I was as far as I could be from him while being perched on the edge of the chair in fight or flight (really just flight mode)."What was that about?" The guy's words echoed in my mind. You'd better get as far away from him as possible, while you still can."Just some prick.""No, Noah, that wasn't 'just some prick', and you and I both know it.""It's too much to unpack, my dear, and we're here on a date. It'll sour the mood."I was starting to speak but Green came in, looking a bit cautious; I presumed the bald man had warned him to proceed carefully based on the events that had just transpired.Noah turned his head sharply and nodded when he saw who it was."Right on time." He stretched out a hand to collect a document from him."Sir," Green held on and Noah turned to look at h
CHAPTER NINE CharlotteI spent the rest of the ride with crossed arms and pouted lips while Noah simply relaxed into his seat and crossed one leg over the other until we finally got to some sophisticated looking part of town that I was not sure I knew existed prior to this. The car pulled up outside a building designed like a cottage, but you could just tell that it was cottage-like in looks and looks alone, nothing more than the architect's artistic choice. There was a large windmill outside it which clearly served only aesthetic purposes. I sat still, arms folded, half expecting Noah to get the door for me and half expecting him to drag me out of his own door, but he too remained in his relaxed state. The driver finally came around and it was Noah's door that he held open while offering a hand of assistance that Noah did not take. I stared, a little flabbergasted as he shut the door behind his boss and came to get my door, offering the same hand that Noah rejected. I grunted "I'm f

CHAPTER SEVEN Charlotte.I really said I was going to marry this weird stranger. I was going to die soon anyway, what did I have to lose by embarking on one last great adventure? To be fair, this would actually be my first great adventure as I had spent most of my life just trying to survive, trying to build a future it turns out I was not even going to be a part of. Ha!"One year. I can't give you two years, I can give you one." I told him, being at least halfway honest with that. His eyes seem to light up but the rest of his face was as blank and bland as ever."So, you're going to marry me?" He asked, his voice alternating between nonchalance and excitement in a not so graceful manner."Do I have to spell it out for you?" I turned and started walking again without him, and for some seconds, I didn't hear his footsteps, so I figured he wasn't following me, but just like he did before, he was suddenly beside me."To which address do I send the paperwork?" He asked."Oh you really
CHAPTER SIX Noah.Well, I did not intend to let her know right off the bat that I wanted to put a ring on her, but the words had slipped out already, and I was not a man who would retract or take back what he said, so I stuck to my guns."I have an obscene amount of money." I said, hoping to appeal to her fleshly, materialistic desires, but for some reason, I did not think this would work, even if she knew it was true. "I need a wife for the next two years." I said, getting it out of the way."I don't understand" was her very fair and reasonable response, although I expected more laughter.I cleared my throat and straightened my back. "It's a... business proposal kind of thing." I said."Wait," her eyes gleamed with excitement, "like one of those contract marriages thingys?" She laughed."Uh... I suppose so."More laughter. "No way. That happens in real life?" She put her hand over her mouth to laugh some more, hiding her beautiful smile. "Is this like a regular thing?""I wouldn't k
