Chapter 3: Is that a threat?

The drive to school was silent, but it was a comfortable silence.

Diana kept her eyes glued outside as the different pack houses flew past with their speed. It was her final year in school and she couldn't wait to be done.

Being in school hadn't been easy, especially when she turned sixteen the previous year and still didn't connect with her wolf. And until she shifted, she wouldn't be able to feel the mate bond. She wouldn't find her mate.

"What's on your mind?" Alden asked as he took a sharp turn a little too fast. Diana looked up to see him staring at her through the rearview mirror.

She shook her head and smiled a little. "A lot. I can't just wait to be done with school. I keep getting weird looks just because I'm the only teen that hasn't wolfed out. And I hear side talks too. People think I'll never find my mate."

She looked away then, and failed to see Alden exchange looks with Asher and Axel, almost as if they were communicating with the mind link.

"Don't let that bother you, Diana," Asher said finally, turning around to face her. "They're just jealous. Remember how you were crowned queen of full moon night three times in a row."

Diana laughed softly as the sweet memory came back to her. Full Moon night was a pageantry event hosted every year at the Michaelson School, a school founded by Alpha Alaric Michaelson.

Diana had emerged as the winner for three consecutive years, much to the uttermost envy of the other she-wolves in the school. She took solace in the fact that when it came to beauty and brains, the other girls didn't stand a chance against her.

"Is that supposed to make me feel better?" she asked.

"Yes," the triplets answered all at once, and they laughed.

"But what I'm trying to say is, don't let what they say bother you," Asher continued. "Your body knows when it's best for you to shift. And for your mate, you'll find him."

"Yeah, you definitely will," Axel added and smiled at her.

"Don't forget, you have us," Alden turned back briefly to stare at her, his charming smile making her heart flutter. "You belong to us and we will do anything to protect you."

Diana felt her heart skip a bit when Alden said she belonged to them, just like in her dreams. She gulped softly and smiled.

"I love you guys," she said goofily. "You're the best."

Few minutes later, they arrived at the school and Alden guided the car into the parking lot.

"Have fun," he stroked her hair lovingly. "We'll pick you up after school."

Diana smiled at all three of them and stepped out of the car, her backpack held over one shoulder. She blew a kiss at her brothers and made her way into the school with a happy smile on her face.

The Michaelson School was built like the mansion Diana stayed, with numerous classes for the new and old students. Every year, new werewolves were recruited and enrolled at the school.

The students were trained to protect themselves from the human world, and also to protect the humans for them.

Diana stepped through the large open doors, breathing in the sweet scent of fresh flowers. A few friends called out to her and she waved back, smiling sheepishly. It was going to be a good day. She could feel it.

Suddenly her smile faded when a blonde girl stepped in front of her with an arrogant smirk. Behind the girl were three other girls, all blonde, all with creepy smirks on their faces.

"If it isn't the only wolfless girl in the Michaelson school."

Diana scowled at the girl before her. It was Syrena Addams, daughter of her father's beta, Dorian Addams.

Syrena had been the thorn in her flesh since they entered high school, and it didn't go down well with the blonde vixen when Diana emerged queen of full moon night three consecutive times.

According to her, she was the school beauty, and the most popular shewolf, hence the crown should have gone to her and not Diana.

Deciding not to give Syrena a chance to annoy her that morning, Diana decided to ignore her and was about to walk away when Syrena grabbed her shirt and pulled her back forcefully.

"Knock it out!" Diana snapped, slapping Syrena's hand away.

"Ouch," Syrena cried out, holding her hand like she had been wounded. She glared up at Diana and spoke at the top of her voice. "What's your problem? You want to hurt me?"

In a few minutes, students had surrounded them, wanting to see how the fight would end. They all knew Diana and Syrena were sworn enemies.

"Get in my way again and I'll do more than hurt you," Diana said coldly.

"Is that a threat?" Syrena sneered. "Look at you, acting all hard and heartless. I bet if your brothers were here, you'd have crawled up to them, bawling your eyes out like the loser that you are."

The small crowd that had gathered in the hallway 'oohed' and a few whispered among themselves as they waited for Diana to reply with a badass comeback.

"Don't you dare talk about my brothers," Diana growled, her hands fisted at her side.

"And what if I do?" Syrena taunted, a cocky smile curling her lips. "Who are you gonna call? Your mate?"

The laughter increased and Diana felt her anger soar. It took a lot of strength to hold back her fist from smashing Syrena's face.

"You're one to talk, considering you don't have a mate too," she said, her voice shaking with undisguised anger.

"At least I have a wolf," Syrena shot back viciously, her brown eyes glittering. "I shifted at the age of six, unlike you who's just hiding your failure as a shifter under your parents because they're the Alpha and Luna."

She laughed scornfully and continued. "You haven't even felt the slightest sign of your wolf. If I were you, I wouldn't think of finding my mate next year. I'll advise you to sit back and watch as I finally get mated to your three handsome brothers..."

Diana lost it when she heard Syrena gloat about stealing her brothers. Her possessive side emerged and she lunged at Syrena with a scream of rage. Her fist lifted and she landed a punch on Syrena's face.

The hallway became filled with screams and yells as the students cheered them on, not bothering to interfere and separate them.

Suddenly Diana was pulled off, cursing and kicking.

"Enough, Diana," the headmaster, Mister Walter grabbed her and moved her away when she tried to lunge at Syrena again.

Syrena, seeing that they would get punished, quickly shifted and began to cry her eyes out.

"Headmaster Walter, Diana just attacked me out of the blue," she cried out and lifted her head.

There was a loud collective gasp as Syrena lifted her head. The punch Diana landed on her face had broken her nose and she was bleeding profusely. Her lips were bleeding too.

Headmaster Walter didn't bother finding out what occurred. He turned to Diana and glared at her sternly.

"Diana Michaelson, you've been suspended for a week, for harming a fellow student," he barked. "Pack your stuff and leave at once."
