LOGINAQUAMARINE'S POV
I stumbled backwards, my eyes moving away from the window. The scene branded itself into my mind, refusing to fade. No, no, no... This can't be! I ran away from the tavern; I didn't even know where I was running to, but I couldn't stop. “It must be Clifford," I told myself, desperate for denial. "Yes, Clinton's twin. That's why…..why it looked like him.” But the memory of Fiona's sly smile and Clinton's closed eyes lost in pleasure, destroyed my attempts at denial. Maybe Fiona seduced him. She's always been manipulative and seductive. Or perhaps... Perhaps Clinton only did it because I'd pushed him away last night. But deep down, I felt Clinton had chosen Fiona. Tears streamed down my face. The mate bond within me wailed, a mournful cry echoing through my soul. How could he? Why Fiona? I recalled what Fiona said last night: ‘You need a reality check, and I know just how to give it to you.’ I didn't realize I ran to the outskirts of the pack's territory. Close to the waterfall. But Clinton and Fiona's image was still in my mind even though I tried to forget it. Almost immediately, I heard someone whispering my name in a low, urgent tone. "Aquamarine." I didn't even move; I felt dead. But a figure stepped forward, revealing Katherine, our maid's daughter. "Aquamarine, I've been searching for you," Katherine said, placing a cold, wet cloth on my swollen bruised cheek. "What do you want?" I asked, looking away from her. I felt ashamed that she saw me like this, I hated that she felt pity for me because if she was caught taking care of me, the pack members wouldn't spare her. "I saw what Beta Liam and Clinton did," she said. "I'm sorry," she continued, her voice heavy as she wiped away the tears from my face. That was it. I broke down crying. Wailing like a baby in her arms. I just wanted to stay like that forever, with her. Alone. "But you must listen, Aquamarine. You have to leave immediately. Don't go back home, Beta Liam and Fiona are planning something, and it has to do with you.” she said, trembling. “What?” I asked, confused, blinking away tears. “I don't understand.” It was weird, I'd never seen Kath so scared like this ever since the day I called Beta Liam Father. Kath looked around as if someone was watching; beads of sweat forming on her head, “T-they are going to…” Before she could go on, we heard people shouting my name, their footsteps growing as they ran in our direction. "Run, Aquamarine," she whispered urgently, forcing something in my pocket and pushing me off her body, past the trees. But it was too late. Strong hands grabbed me, carrying me to where I didn't know. As I struggled, a voice growled in my ear. "Stop moving whore! The Alpha awaits." Whore? The Alpha? When we got to the palace, I was thrown into the centre of the hall. Pack members were seated, watching as if they were waiting for my death sentence. Alpha Felix's voice echoed. "You've been accused of seducing Clinton. People have witnessed how you've shamelessly thrown yourself at him and how you've stalked him relentlessly." What? Me? Seduction? I stammered, despite the fear clawing at my heart. "Y-your Majesty. It's not true, I never seduced Clinton. I never threw myself at him. C-Clifford saw what....." The Alpha's expression darkened further. "How dare you drag my other son into this!" he thundered. "Clifford is on assignment, serving our pack, and you dare tell lies about him?" “N-no, ” I shook my head violently and fell on my knees. “Y-your Majesty. C-Clinton is my mate, he told me himself…” "I assure you her claims of an affair between us are nothing more than a fabrication," Clinton stepped forward, interrupting me. My eyes widened in shock, “Clinton you..” "I've tried to be kind to you, to treat you like a normal person despite your... cursed fate, but you just won't leave me alone." Clinton continued, looking at me with pity. My heart sank. I couldn't believe what I heard. Wasn't cheating on me enough? Why would he go this far? I tried to reach out to him, but the pack Gamma shifted and charged at me, pinning me to the floor. "With the council's approval, I'm honoured to announce my mate, the future Luna of our pack... Fiona!" It was then I remembered what Clinton said last night: ‘I'll announce my mate.’ Not: 'I'll announce you as my mate.’ Fiona stepped forward with a radiant smile on her face, and Clinton took her hand, his eyes locked on hers, his expression filled with adoration. He never looked at me that way before. Never. "Fiona embodies the qualities that make a true leader, the qualities that will help our pack thrive and prosper; she is my partner, my friend, and my mate." Alpha Felix nodded in approval, his face glowing with happiness. "My son has chosen wisely," he declared. "Fiona, welcome to our family; you will make a magnificent Luna." Fiona's gaze met mine, and she smirked as if to say she had won. Sarah did the same, and Beta Liam was busy talking with Alpha Felix. “D-did you ever love me?” I stammered, tears threatening to fall. I wanted him to say something, that this was only a test, to prove my loyalty to him or a prank. "I have no idea why you came up with this nonsense believing that you're my mate, but I'll do you a big favour by rejecting you, perhaps then you'll finally snap out of this delusional dream world you've created," Clinton replied. I was wrong. He raised his hands. "I, Clinton Felix, hereby formally sever all ties that bind you to me, cutting off any lingering hopes or expectations you may have created.” His words struck like a dagger, piercing deep into my body and soul. A searing pain ripped through my chest as if my heart was being torn apart. The bond I thought existed between us, the bond I had clung to with desperate hope, snapped violently. I gasped, struggling to breathe, but the words I heard next made my body still, and I swore my heart stopped for a moment. "Punishment! Death!" Alpha Felix growled. "Effective immediately.”LUNA AQUAMARINE’S POV One year later “NO—ODIN—SIGRID—TOP THAT!” A burst of fire streaked past my head anyway and slammed into the wall that had already been rebuilt three times this month. I groaned and chased after them, skirts hitched, hair half loose, arms already aching. I pinched the bridge of my nose as two tiny red-white and gold blurs shot past me, laughing like maniacs, like they owned the place. Well, they actually do. “Listen!” I shouted. “Don’t make me get you!—” They roared. A shrill, delighted sound that echoed off the ceiling as they flew outside, fire raining down on the pack. I stopped at the threshold, chest heaving. “…Fine,” I muttered, breathing in that sharp winter air. “Burn it all.” I didn’t follow. Nobody bothered to. If Levi and Juliet were here then they probably would have tied them to a chair by now. I leaned against the stone instead and opened my hand. My fingers curled around it slowly, grateful that they didn’t see this to pl
LUNA AQUAMARINE’S POV I jumped. Glass exploded around me as I hurled myself through the window, the wind ripping the scream from my throat as the world dropped away— And fire answered. White-hot. Blinding. Violent. My bones shattered and reformed midair, wings tore from my back and scales rippled over my skin. My roar split the sky as I shifted fully, the white dragon tearing free of the castle’s shadow. Below me— Thorfinn. Cracked with molten gold and black stone veins. And on his head— Gwen. Gwen Silverthorn. The Dragon and his slave. His curse. But….. she looked ruined. Skin pale and peeling. Hair matted, tangled, falling out in patches. “Youuu,” she seethed Her voice sounded like claws scraping glass. “There you are,” she crooned, fingers digging into the space between Thorfinn’s scales. “My perfect flame.” Rage detonated inside me. "I don't belong to you." I slammed into Thorfinn midair, our bodies colliding with a thunderous crack. "Run,
LUNA AQUAMARINE’S POV “Gwen…?”The name slipped past my lips before I could stop it. “Gwen?” I muttered again… titling my head and squinting my eyes in confusion. My chest tightened. “Wait—Gwen?” I sit up straighter, staring at him. “As in… Gwen the witch?”My heart stops. It’s her. It’s really her.Alex’s eyes flicked away for the first time since he walked in. “Aye…” he murmured, voice going very low. “Aye, Aqua… the same one.”The air suddenly felt hot.He swallowed hard. “Aqua… hear me—”“No,” I whispered, heart racing more than it should. “Are you—” my breath catches, heat flaring up my spine. “Are you telling me that the woman destroying our lives… the woman who cursed you… the woman who—” My face twisted as the words choked in my throat. “She was your Gwen?”He flinched.“Aqua… I must speak plain,” he said, accent thickening, that barbarian rasp pushing through. “’Twas long before ye. Long before the curse. Long before I kent what she truly was.”Everything inside me starts s
LUNA AQUAMARINE’S POVI went over to the children and touched them. I kissed their foreheads and inhaled their scents.Scents I could never hide.Lorgan’s words bruised my mind.I rubbed my temples and whispered, “So… make him yearn? How? What does that even mean?”Juliet stood a few steps away, trying to give me space without leaving the room. She always sensed when I was spiralling.“Are you alright?” she asked quietly.No.Not even close.“I just…” I swallowed. “I don’t know what to do. I don’t even know how to make a man yearn. What does that mean? Do I ignore him? Do I touch him?”Juliet blinked at me, unsure if I was serious.I was.“Luna,” she said softly, “it means… don’t give him what he expects. Or what he wants. Make him feel the absence. It's like what you did earlier. You gave him hope that he could touch his child, but you took that away from him. Just make him want you. Crave for you.”I stared at her. “I don’t know how to do that either.”Juliet opened her mouth to ans
LUNA AQUAMARINE’S POV I didn’t wait for Alexander to say another word.I just turned around and walked out of the dining hall before his eyes pierced me to death. The door had barely shut behind me when a loud crack echoed through the corridor.A spank.Followed by Katherine’s voice yelling.Lorgan followed behind me, his footsteps heavy and unbothered, like he was strolling into battle with a full stomach. When Juliet reached the study, I opened the door and stepped inside with the twins. Lorgan entered after me, closing it with the back of his foot.He didn’t wait.He sat on the chair next to the window and crossed his leg on the desk, tearing off another chunk of meat he’d brought with him like it was normal to carry roast into a study.“Soo, Whitey… ye dragged me from my feast. What do ye want?”I blinked, placing the kids on a bigger and softer chair. Whitey? Then he pointed the bone at me. “Ye don’t come to me unless somethin’s bitin’ yer mind.”I exhaled.“Levi told me you k
LUNA AQUAMARINE’S POV The room went still.“Why?”Alexander’s head shot up fast. “Do you want something else? Do you want something easier to swallow? Would you prefer fish?” His voice was full of worry as if he had done something bad and was trying to correct it.I blinked. Something else? Yes!Something that doesn't look like it was made by you. Do I look like I want to be poisoned? He stepped back and pushed Levi forward. “Levi, taste it first.”Levi's eyes went wide. “What—”“Do it,” Alexander growled.Levi hesitated, glanced at me, then at the food. He picked up a piece, chewed slowly. Then his eyes looked like they would pop out of his sockets. He stared at the food and then at Alexander before facing me again. But he didn’t say a word and I knew what he meant.Alexander turned to me. “Is that ok?”I shook my head, “I'd rather eat something from a known source.”Who knows what he must have put inside to make it good? What if I end up falling asleep and waking up to my son's bu
